This Owner’s Guide describes everyoption and model variant available

Fuel pump shut-off switchIn the event of an accident the
safetyswitch will automaticallycut off the fuel supplyto the
engine. The switch can also be activated through sudden vibration
(e.g. collision when parking). To reset the switch, refer to theFuel
pump shut-off switchin theRoadside emergencieschapter.

Engine coolant temperature
gauge:Indicates engine coolant
temperature. At normal operating
temperature, the needle will be in
the normal range (between “H” and
“C”).If it enters the red section,
the engine is overheating. Stop
the vehicle as soon as safely
possible, switch off the engine
and let the engine cool.
Never remove the coolant reservoir cap while the engine is
running or hot.
Odometer:Registers the total
kilometers (miles) of the vehicle.
Trip odometer:Registers the
kilometers (miles) of individual
journeys. To reset, depress the
control.
Tachometer:Indicates the engine
speed in revolutions per minute.
Driving with your tachometer
pointer continuouslyat the top of
the scale maydamage the engine.

hold CLK. Then press SEEK to

4.Tape AMS:In tape mode, press
and hold to activate Automatic
Music Search (allows you to quickly
locate the beginning of the tape selection being played or to skip to the
next selection). Then, press REW (for the beginning of the current
selection) or FF (to advance to the next selection). The tape MUST have
a blank section of at least four seconds duration between programs.

10.Memory presets:To set a
station: Select frequencyband
AM/FM; tune to a station, press and
hold a preset button until sound
returns. In CD mode, press to move between CDs.
This radio is equipped with six station memorypreset controls which
allow you to set up to six AM stations and 12 FM stations (six in FM1
and six in FM2).
11.CD:Press to select CD mode.
Seamless play:In CD mode, the
transition between the end of one
CD and the beginning of another will not contain delaytime unless SEEK
or a preset control is pressed.
12.AM/FM:Press to select a
frequencyband in radio mode.
Autostore:Allows you to set the
strongest local radio stations without losing your original manually set
preset stations for AM/FM1/FM2 . Press and momentarilyhold AM/FM.
AUTOSTORE will flash on the display. When the six strongest stations
are filled, the station stored in preset 1 will begin playing. If there are
less than six strong stations, the system will store the last one in the
remaining presets. Press again to disengage.
13.Power/volume:Press to turn
ON/OFF; turn to increase or
decrease volume levels.
14.Load:Press to load a CD. Press
and hold to load up to six discs.
15.Shuffle:Press to playtracks in
random order. Press SHUF to cycle
through SHUF DISC, SHUF TRAC or
SHUF OFF.
16.Scan:Press to hear a brief
sampling of all listenable stations or
CD tracks. Press again to stop.

The appearance of your vehicle’s trip computer may differ depending on
your vehicle’s option package, but the functions are the same.
The trip computer onlyoperates with the ignition in the ON position.
Trip computer features are as follows:
Selectable features
English/metric display
Press this control to change the trip
computer displaybetween metric
and English units.
Mode control
Each press of the MODE control will
displaya different feature as follows:
Average fuel economy.The
displaywill indicate the vehicle’s
average fuel economyin liters/100
km (or miles/gallon) since the
average fuel economywas last reset.
If you calculate your average fuel
economybydividing liters of fuel used by100 kilometers traveled (miles
traveled by gallons used), your figure may be different than displayed for
the following reasons:
•your vehicle was not perfectly level during fill-up
•differences in the automatic shut-off points on the fuel pumps at
service stations
•variations in top-off procedure from one fill-up to another
•rounding of the displayed values to the nearest liter (gallon)
To reset the average fuel economy:
1. Press the MODE control repeatedlyuntil average fuel economyis
displayed (this is the only resettable display).

2. Press the E/M and MODE
controls simultaneously. The display
will illuminate the “AVG” indicator.
While the indicator is lit, release
both controls to reset the average
fuel economy.
Fuel range.This displays the approximate number of kilometers (miles)
left to drive before the fuel tank is empty. The indicated distance to
emptymaybe inaccurate:
•with sustained, drastic changes in fuel economy(such as trailer
towing), but will eventuallyrecover.
•if the vehicle is started while parked on an incline.
•if less than 30 liters (8 gallons) of fuel is added to the fuel tank.
The fuel range function will flash for five seconds at the following
distances based on fuel remaining and fuel economycalculations:
•80 km (50 miles)
•40 km (25 miles)
•16 km (10 miles)
Outside air temperature
The temperature can be displayed in
Centigrade or Fahrenheit by
pressing the E/M control.
If the outside temperature falls
below 3°C (38°F), the displaywill
alternate from “ICE” to the outside
temperature at a two second rate
for one minute.
Off.In this mode the displayis off.
Compass
The compass displayis contained in the overhead console. The vehicle
heading is displayed as one of N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W and NW.
The compass heading is displayed in average fuel economy modes, fuel
range modes and temperature modes.
The compass reading maybe affected when you drive near large
buildings, bridges, power lines and powerful broadcast antennas.

•Tires have their maximum inflation pressure and associated load rating
imprinted on the tire sidewall. This pressure mayor maynot be the
same as that shown as recommended on the vehicle. The vehicle
operator mayhave to adjust the tire inflation pressure to
accommodate the snowplow and payload. Consult your dealer or
equipment installer for help with proper inflation pressures.
•Federal and some local regulations require additional exterior lamps
for snowplow-equipped vehicles. Consult your dealer for additional
information.
•After installing a snowplow to the vehicle, ensure the vehicle’s front
toe alignment and front ride height are within specification (reset if
required). These specifications are located in the vehicle’s Workshop
Manual.
Note:Do not exceed the GVWR or the GAWR specified on the
certification label.
Removing snowplow
After removing a snowplow from the vehicle, ensure the vehicle’s front toe
alignment and front ride height are within specification (reset if required).
Snowplowing with your air bag-equipped vehicle
Your vehicle is equipped with a driver and passenger air bag
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) The SRS is designed to activate in
certain frontal and offset frontal collisions when the vehicle sustains
sufficient longitudinal deceleration.
Careless or high speed driving while plowing snow which results in
sufficient vehicle decelerations can deploythe air bag. Such driving also
increases the risk of accidents.
All occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, should always
properlywear their safetybelts, even when an air bag (SRS) is
provided.
Never remove or defeat the “tripping mechanisms” designed into the
snow removal equipment byits manufacturer. Doing so maycause
damage to the vehicle and the snow removal equipment as well as
possible air bag deployment.
Do not attempt to service, repair, or modifythe Air Bag
Supplemental Restraint System or its fuses. See your Ford or
Lincoln Mercurydealer.
