BRAKE/CluTCh FluId (IF EquIPPEd)
Checking the brake/clutch fluid
level
Check the fluid level in the reservoir
periodically. The fluid level should be
between MAX (Maximum) and MIN
(Minimum) marks on the side of the
reservoir. Before removing the reservoir cap
and adding brake/clutch fluid, clean
the area around the reservoir cap
thoroughly to prevent brake/clutch
fluid contamination. If the level is low,
add fluid to the MAX (Maximum)
level. The level will fall with accumu
lated mileage. This is a normal con
dition associated with the wear of the
brake linings and/or clutch disc (ifequipped).
If the fluid level is excessively low, we
recommend that the system be
checked by an authorized HYUNDAI
dealer.
Use only the specified brake/clutch
fluid. (Refer to “Recommended lubricants or capacities” in chapter 8.)
Information
Before removing the brake/clutch fil
ter cap, read the warning on the cap.
Information
Clean filler cap before removing. Use
only DOT3 or DOT4 brake/clutch
fluid from a sealed container.i
i
Loss of brake fluid
In the event the brake system
requires frequent additions of
fluid, we recommend that the sys
tem be inspected by an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.

Maintenance
Do not allow brake/clutch fluid to
contact the vehicle's body paint, as
paint damage will result.
Brake/clutch fluid, which has been
exposed to open air for an extended
time should never be used as its
quality cannot be guaranteed. It
should be properly disposed. Don't
put in the wrong kind of fluid. A few
drops of mineralbased oil, such as
engine oil, in your brake/clutch sys
tem can damage brake/clutch system
parts.
NOTICE
Brake/clutch fluid
When changing and adding
brake/clutch fluid, handle it care
fully. Do not let it come in contact
with your eyes. If brake/clutch fluid
come in contact with your eyes,
immediately flush them with a
large quantity of fresh tap water.
Have your eyes examined by a
doctor as soon as possible.

WAShER FluId
Checking the washer fluid level
Check the fluid level in the washer
fluid reservoir and add fluid if neces
sary. Plain water may be used if
washer fluid is not available.
However, use washer solvent with
antifreeze characteristics in cold cli
mates to prevent freezing. Do not use engine coolant or
antifreeze in the washer fluid reser
voir.
Checking the parking brake
Check the stroke of the parking
brake by counting the number of
“clicks’’ heard while fully applying it
from the released position.
Also, the parking brake alone should
securely hold the vehicle on a fairly
steep grade. If the stroke is more or
less than specified, we recommend
that the system be inspected by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
Stroke : 6~8 “clicks’’ at a force of 20
kg (44 lbs, 196 N).
NOTICE

•Engine coolant can severely
obscure visibility when sprayed
on the windshield and may
cause loss of vehicle control or
damage to paint and body trim.
•Windshield Washer fluid agents
contain some amounts of alco
hol and can be flammable under
certain circumstances. Do not
allow sparks or flame to contact
the washer fluid or the washer
fluid reservoir. Damage to the
vehicle or occupants could
occur.
•Windshield washer fluid is poi
sonous to humans and animals.
Do not drink and avoid contact
ing windshield washer fluid.
Serious injury or death could
occur.

FuEl FIlTER (FOR dIESEl)
Draining water from fuel filter
The fuel filter for diesel engine plays
an important role of separating water
from fuel and accumulating the water
in its bottom.
If water accumulates in the fuel filter,
the warning light comes on when the
ignition switch is in the ON position. If this warning light turned
on, we recommend that the
system be serviced by an
authorized HYUNDAI dealer.
If the water accumulated in the fuel
filter is not drained at proper times,
damages to the major parts such as
the fuel system can be caused by
water permeation in the fuel filter.
Extracting air from the fuel filter
If you drive until you have no fuel left
or if you replace the fuel filter, be
sure to extract air from the fuel sys
tem as it makes it difficult to start the
engine.
1. Pump up and down(1) approxi mately 50 times until the pump is
hard.
2. Extract air from the fuel filter by removing the bolt(2) with a cross
tip screw driver and reinstall thebolt(2).
3. Pump up and down(1) approxi mately 15 times. 4. Extract air from the fuel filter by
removing the bolt(2) with a cross
tip screw driver and reinstall thebolt(2).
5. Pump up and down(1) approxi mately 5 times.
Information
• Use cloths when you extract air so that the fuel is not sprayed around.
• Clean the fuel around the fuel filter or the injection pump before start
ing the engine to prevent fire.
• Finally, check each part if the fuel is leaking.i

AIR ClEANER
Filter replacement
You can clean the filter when inspect
ing the air cleaner element.
Clean the filter by using compressed
air.
1. Loosen the air cleaner cover attaching clips and open the cover. 2. Wipe the inside of the air cleaner.
3. Replace the air cleaner filter.
4. Lock the cover with the cover
attaching clips. Replace the filter according to the
Maintenance Schedule.
If the vehicle is operated in extreme
ly dusty or sandy areas, replace the element more often than the usualrecommended intervals. (Refer to“Maintenance under severe usageconditions” in this chapter.)
•Do not drive with the air cleaner
removed; this will result in exces
sive engine wear.
•When removing the air cleaner fil
ter, be careful that dust or dirt does
not enter the air intake, or damage
may result.
•We recommend that you use parts
for replacement from an authorized
HYUNDAI dealer.

ClIMATE CONTROl AIR FIlTER (IF EquIPPEd)
Filter inspection
If the vehicle is operated in the
severely airpolluted cities or on
dusty rough roads for a long period,
it should be inspected more fre
quently and replaced earlier. When
you, the owner, replace the climate
control air filter, replace it performing
the following procedure, and be care
ful to avoid damaging other compo
nents.
Replace the filter according to the
maintenance Schedule.
Filter replacement
1. Open the glove box.2. Push in both sides of the glove box
as shown. This will ensure that the
glove box stopper pins will get
released from its holding location
allowing the glove box to hang.

3. Remove the climate control air fil
ter cover while pressing the lock
(1) on the both side of the cover. 4. Replace the climate control air filter.
5. Reassemble in the reverse order

Information
When replacing the climate control
air filter install it properly. Otherwise,
the system may produce noise and the
effectiveness of the filter may be
reduced.i

WIPER BlAdES
Blade inspection
Information
Commercial hot waxes applied by
automatic car washes have been
known to make the windshield diffi
cult to clean. Contamination of either the wind
shield or the wiper blades with for
eign matter can reduce the effective
ness of the windshield wipers.
Common sources of contamination
are insects, tree sap, and hot wax
treatments used by some commer
cial car washes. If the blades are not
wiping properly, clean both the win
dow and the blades with a good
cleaner or mild detergent, and rinse
thoroughly with clean water. To prevent damage to the wiper
blades, do not use gasoline,
kerosene, paint thinner, or other sol
vents on or near them.
Blade replacement
When the wipers no longer clean
adequately, the blades may be worn
or cracked, and require replacement.
To prevent damage to the wiper
arms or other components, do not
attempt to move the wipers manual
ly.
The use of a nonspecified wiper
blade could result in wiper malfunc
tion and failure.
