Sunvisor
Use the sunvisor to shield direct light
through the front or side windows.
A mirror (if equipped) and ticket holder
(if equipped) is provided on the sunvi
sor.
Power outlet (if equipped)
The power outlet is designed to pro
vide power for mobile telephones or
other devices designed to operate
with vehicle electrical systems. The
devices should draw less than 180W
(Watt) with the engine running.
For your safety, do not block your
view when using the sunvisor.

Before entering the vehicle
• Be sure all windows, outside mirror(s), and outside lights are clean
and unobstructed.
• Remove frost, snow, or ice.
• Visually check the tires for uneven wear and damage.
• Check under the vehicle for any sign of leaks.
• Be sure there are no obstacles behind you if you intend to back up.
Before starting
• Make sure the hood, the tailgate,and the doors are securely closed
and locked.
• Adjust the position of the seat and steering wheel.
• Adjust the inside and outside rearview mirrors.
• Verify all the lights work.
• Fasten your seatbelt. Check that all passengers have fastened their
seatbelts. • Check the gauges and indicators in
the instrument panel and the mes
sages on the instrument display
when the ignition switch is in the
ON position.
• Check that any items you are car rying are stored properly or fas
tened down securely.

STARTTo start the engine, turn the ignition switch to the START position.
The switch returns to the ON position when you let go of the key.The engine will crank until you release the

• Do not wait for the engine to warm up while the vehicle remains station

Start driving at moderate engine
speeds. (Steep accelerating and
decelerating should be avoided.)
• Always start the vehicle with your foot on the brake pedal. Do not
depress the accelerator while start
ing the vehicle. Do not race the
engine while warming it up.Starting the diesel engine
To start the diesel engine when the
engine is cold, it has to be preheat
ed before starting the engine and
then have to be warmed up before
starting to drive.
Vehicle with manual transaxle:
1. Make sure the parking brake is applied.
2. Make sure the shift lever is in neu tral.
3. Depress the clutch and brake ped als.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position to preheat the engine.
The glow indicator light ( ) will
illuminate.
5. When the glow indicator light ( ) goes out, turn the key ignition
switch to the START position. Holdthe key (maximum of 10 seconds)
until the engine starts and release it. Information
If the engine does not start within 10
seconds after preheating is completed,
turn the ignition switch once more to
the LOCK position and wait for 10
seconds. Then turn the ignition switch
to the ON position in order to preheat
the engine again.ii

Using the clutch (if equipped)
The clutch pedal should be
depressed all the way to the floor
before:
Starting the engine The engine will not start without
depressing the clutch pedal.
Shifting
When releasing the clutch pedal,
release it slowly. The clutch pedal
should always be released while
driving. To prevent unnecessary wear or
damage to the clutch:
•Do not rest your foot on the clutch
pedal while driving.
•Do not hold the vehicle with the
clutch on an incline, while waiting
for the traffic light, etc.
•Always depress the clutch pedal
down fully to prevent noise or dam
age.
•Do not start with the 2nd (second)
gear engaged except when you
start on a slippery road.
Downshifting
Downshift when you must slow down
in heavy traffic or drive up a steep hill
to prevent engine load.
Also, downshifting reduces the
chance of stalling and can accelerate
when you need to increase your
speed again.
When the vehicle is going downhill,
downshifting helps maintain safe
speed by providing brake power from
the engine and enables less wear on
the brakes.
