The seat belt is released by pressing the release button in the locking buckle. When it is released, the belt shouldautomatically draw back into the re- tractor. If this does not happen, check the beltto be sure it is not twisted, then try again. If the seat belt does not draw back intothe retractor after checking for any twists have the belt inspected by a Hyundai dealer.

You should place the belt as low as possible on your hips, not on your waist. If the belt is located too high onyour body, you could slide under it in case of an accident or a sudden stop. This could result of death, seriousinjury or property damage. Both arms should not be under or over the belt. Rather, one should be over and theother under, as shown in the illustration. Never wear the seat belt under the arm nearest to the door.
*2) If the vehicle speed exceeds 9km/
h, the seat belt chime also soundsfor about 1~2 minutes. If the vehicle speed is below 9km/h, 1 minute later the seat belt chime also sounds for about 1~2 minutes.

B230A02TB-DAT CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM If the child is old enough to sit alone and the car is not equipped with a proper child or infant seat, the childshould be placed in the rear seat and restrained with a shoulder/lap belt. Child restraint systems are designed tobe secured in vehicle seats by lap belts or the lap belt portion of a lap/shoulder belt, or by a tether anchor and/or ISOFIXanchors (if installed). o When the child restraint system is
not in use, store it in the luggage
compartment or fasten it with a
safety belt so that it will not be thrown forward in the case of a sudden stop or accident.
o A child restraint system should be placed in the vehicle's rear seatsince this can make an importantcontribution to safety.
o Unrestrained children should not
be carried in the car. Holding achild in your arms is not a satis- factory substitute for a child re- straint system. A child held inthis manner can be crushed be- tween your body and the interior of the car.
o Never allow a child to be held in a person's arms while they are ina moving vehicle. This could re-sult in serious injury or death to the child in the event of an acci- dent or sudden stop. Holding achild in a moving vehicle does not give protection during an ac- cident, even if the person hold-ing the child is wearing a seat belt.
WARNING:
o Child restraint anchorages are designed to withstand only thoseloads imposed by correctly fitted child restraints. Under no circum-stances are they to be used for adult seat belts harnesses or for attaching other items or equip-ment to the vehicle.
o Since a safety belt or child re-
straint system can become veryhot if it is left in a closed vehicle, be sure and check the seat cover and buckles before placing achild there.B220C01Y-DAT To Release the Seat Belt When you want to release the seat belt, press the button in the locking buckle. B220C02TB
WARNING:
The centre belt latching mechanismis different from those for the rear seat shoulder belts. When fasten- ing the rear seat shoulder belts orthe rear seat centre belt, make sure they are inserted into the correct buckles to obtain maximum protec-tion from the seat belt system and assure proper operation.

B230B01E-GAT Using a Child Restraint System For small children and babies, the use of a child seat or infant seat is strongly recommended. This child seat or in-fant seat should be of appropriate size for the child and should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer'sinstructions. It is further recommended that the seat be placed in the vehicle's rear seat since this can make an im-portant contribution to safety. Your vehicle is provided with three child restraint anchorage points for installingthe child seat or infant seat.

WARNING:
Do not install any child restraint system in the front passenger seat.Should an accident occur and cause the passenger side airbag to de- ploy, it could severely injure or killan infant or child seated in an infant or child seat. Therefore, only use a child restraint system in the rearseat of your vehicle.
If you need to tighten the belt, pull more webbing toward the retractor. When you unbuckle the seat belt and allow it toretract, the retractor will automatically revert back to its normal seated pas- senger emergency locking usage con-dition. NOTE:
o Before installing the child re-
straint system, read the instruc- tions supplied by the child re- straint system manufacturer.
o If the seat belt does not operate as described, have the systemchecked immediately by yourauthorised Hyundai dealer.
Three Child Restraint Hook holder Fit- ting Packages are located where shown on the vertical back panel (behind rearbumper bar). To install the child re- straint seat, connect the attaching clip to the Child Restraint Anchorage Fit-ting Package and tighten to secure the seat.
WARNING:
To install the Child Restraint Seat, for safety reasons the Seat shouldbe positioned rearmost with the seatback in a vertical position, not reclined. To install a child restraint system in the rear seats, extend the shoulder/lap belt from its retractor. Install the childrestraint system, buckle the seat belt and allow the seat belt to take up any slack. Make sure that the lap portion ofthe belt is tight around the child re- straint system and the shoulder por- tion of the belt is positioned so that itcannot interfere with the child's head or neck. After installation of the child restraint system, try to move it in alldirections to be sure the child restraint system is securely installed.B230G01TB-DAT Installation on Rear Seats

HXG229-D WARNING:
To obtain maximum benefit from a pre-tensioner seat belt:
1. The seat belt must be worn cor- rectly.
2. The seat belt must be adjusted to the correct position.
NOTE:
o Both the driver's and front passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts will be activated in certain frontal collisions. The pre- tensioner seat belts can be acti-vated with the airbags. The pre- tensioners will be activated un- der these conditions even if theseat belts are not being worn at the time of the collision.
o When the pre-tensioner seat belts
are activated, a loud noise maybe heard and fine dust, which may appear to be smoke, may bevisible in the passenger compart- ment. These are normal operat- ing conditions and are not haz-ardous.
Your Hyundai vehicle is equipped withdriver's and front passenger's pre-tensioner seat belts. The purpose of the pre-tensioner is to make sure that the seat belts fit tightly against theoccupant's body in certain frontal col- lisions. The pre-tensioner seat belts can beactivated with the airbags. The pre-tensioner seat belt operates in the same way as an EmergencyLocking Retractor (ELR) type of seat belt. When the vehicle stops suddenly, or if the occupant tries to lean forwardtoo quickly, the seat belt retractor will lock into position. However, in certain

o Although it is harmless, the fine
dust may cause skin irritation and should not be inhaled forprolonged periods. Wash your hands and face thoroughly after an accident in which the pre-tensioner seat belts were acti- vated.
CAUTION:
o Because the sensor that activates the SRS airbag is connected with the pre-tensioner seat belt, the SRS airbag warning light on the instrument panel will blinkfor approximately 6 seconds af- ter the ignition key has been turned to the "ON" position, andthen it should turn off.
o If the pre-tensioner seat belt is
not working properly, this warn-ing light will illuminate even if there is no malfunction of the SRS airbag system. If the SRS airbag warning light does not illuminate when the ig- nition key is turned to "ON", or ifit remains illuminated after blink- ing for approximately 6 seconds,
!WARNING:
o Pre-tensioners are designed to operate once only. After activa- tion, pre-tensioner seat belts must be replaced. All seat belts, of anytype, should always be replaced after they have been worn during a collision.
o The pre-tensioner seat belt as- sembly mechanisms become hotduring activation. Do not touchthe pre-tensioner seat belt as- semblies for several minutes af- ter they have been activated.
o Do not attempt to inspect or re- place the pre-tensioner seat beltsyourself. This must be done byan authorised Hyundai dealer.
o Do not strike the pre-tensioner
seat belt assemblies.or if it illuminates while the ve- hicle is being driven, please have an authorised Hyundai dealerinspect the pre-tensioner seat belt or SRS airbag system as soon as possible.
o Do not attempt to service or repair
the pre-tensioner seat belt system in any manner.
o Improper handling of the pre-
tensioner seat belt assemblies, and failure to heed the warnings to not strike, modify, inspect, re-place, service or repair the pre- tensioner seat belt assemblies may lead to improper operationor inadvertent activation and se- rious injury.
o Always wear the seat belts when driving or riding in a motor ve-hicle.
o If the vehicle or pre-tensioner seat belt must be discarded, contact an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.!

Driver's Airbag
Your vehicle is equipped with a Supple- mental Restraint (Air Bag) System and lap/shoulder belts at both the driver andpassenger seating positions. The indi- cations of the system's presence are the letters "SRS AIR BAG" embossedon the airbag pad cover in the steering wheel and printed on the passenger's side front panel pad above the glovebox. B240A03TB-DAT SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT (AIRBAG) SYSTEM (If Installed)
WARNING:
o As its name implies, the SRS is designed to work with, and be supplemental to, the driver's and the passenger's three point seat belt systems and is not a substi-tute for them. Therefore your seat belts must be worn at all times while the vehicle is in motion. Inaddition, the airbags deploy only in certain frontal impact condi- tions severe enough to likelycause significant injury to the vehicle occupants.
o The SRS is designed to deploy the airbags only when an impactis sufficiently severe and when the impact angle is less than 30°from the forward longitudinal axis of the vehicle and will not deploy in side, rear or rollover impacts.Additionally, the airbags will only deploy once. Thus, seat belts must be worn at all times.
The Hyundai SRS consists of airbags installed under the pad covers in the centre of the steering wheel and thepassenger's side front panel above the glove box. The purpose of the SRS is to provide the vehicle's driver and/or thefront passenger with additional protec- tion than that offered by the seat belt alone, in case of a frontal impact ofsufficient severity. NOTE: Be sure to read information about the SRS on the labels provided on the backside of the sun visor.

The SRS consists of the following com- ponents:
- Driver's Airbag Module
- Passenger's Airbag Module
- SRS Service Reminder Indicator(SRI)
- SRS Control Module (SRSCM)
The SRSCM continually monitors all elements while the ignition is "ON" to determine if a frontal or near-frontalimpact is severe enough to require airbag deployment.

Side Impact Rollover
o Front airbags are not intended to deploy in side-impact, rear-im- pact or rollover crashes. In addi- tion, airbags will not deploy in frontal crashes below the deploy-ment threshold speed.
o For maximum safety in event of
collision, all occupants shouldwear their seat belts to minimise the risk of severe injury or death. Do not sit or lean unnecessarilyclose to the airbag while the ve- hicle is in motion. o The SRS airbag system must de-
ploy very rapidly to provide pro- tection in a crash. If an occupantis out of position because of not wearing a seat belt, the airbag may forcefully contact the occupantcausing serious or fatal injuries.
