INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
Revision: 2004 November 2004 FX35/FX45
( ): Number indicates step in removal procedures.
REMOVAL
(A) Front Kicking Plate (LH/RH)
Remove front kicking plate (LH/RH). Refer to EI-37, "BODY SIDE TRIM" .
(B) Dash Side Finisher (LH/RH)
1. Remove plastics nut.
2. Remove dash side finisher (LH/RH). Refer to EI-37, "
BODY SIDE TRIM" .
(C) Front Pillar Garnish (LH/RH)
Pull to inside of vehicle, disengage metal clips and remove front pillar garnish. Refer to EI-37, "BODY SIDE
TRIM" .
(D) A/T Select Lever Knob
1. Pull down knob cover.
2. Remove lock-pin of select lever knob.
3. Lift up select lever knob and remove it. Refer to AT- 2 3 3 , "
Control Device Removal and Installation" .
(E) Instrument Clock Finisher
1. Insert a remover into side between gaps of instrument clock fin-
isher and pull back to your side.
2. Disconnect clips and harness connector, and remove instrument
clock finisher.
(F) A/T Console Finisher
1. Insert a remover into side between gaps of A/T console finisher
and remove by lifting A/T console finisher.
2. Disconnect harness connector.
(G) Console Finisher (LH/RH)
1. Remove screws with power tool.
2. Remove console finisher (LH/RH).
(H) Center Console
1. Remove screws with power tool.
2. Remove console sub-harness

ADJUSTMENT USING AN ADJUSTMENT SCREEN (LIGHT/DARK BORDERLINE)
If the vehicle front body has been repaired and/or the headlamp assembly has been replaced, check aiming.
Use the aiming chart shown in the figure.
Basic illumination area for adjustment should be within the range shown on the aiming chart.
Adjust headlamp accordingly.
CAUTION:
Be sure aiming switch is set to “0” when performing aiming
adjustment.
Bulb ReplacementAKS007MW
HEADLAMP HIGH/LOW BEAM
1. Turn lighting switch OFF.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable or remove power fuse.
3. Remove air cleaner case (LH) or radiator reservoir tank (RH).
Refer to EM-17, "
Removal and Installation" , EM-172, "Removal
and Installation" , CO-14, "Removal and Installation" , CO-39,
"Removal and Installation" .
4. Turn plastic cap counterclockwise and unlock it.
5. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
6. Unlock retaining spring and remove bulb from headlamp.
7. Install in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE:
After installation, perform aiming adjustment. Refer to LT- 3 4 , "
Aiming Adjustment" .
PARKING LAMP (CLEARANCE LAMP)
1. Turn lighting switch OFF.
2. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
3. Remove bulb from its socket.
4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
FRONT TURN SIGNAL LAMP
1. Turn lighting switch OFF.
2. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise with suitable tool and unlock
it.
3. Remove bulb from its socket.
4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
FRONT SIDE MARKER LAMP
1. Turn lighting switch OFF.
2. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
3. Remove bulb from its socket.
4. Install in the reverse order of removal.
CAUTION:
After installing bulb, be sure to install plastic cap and bulb
socket securely to insure watertightness.

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Remove front bumper. Refer to EI-14, "
Removal and Installa-
tion" in “EI” section.
3. Remove headlamp mounting bolts.
4. Remove plastics bumper bracket, then pull headlamp toward
vehicle front, disconnect connector, and remove headlamp.
INSTALLATION
Note the following, and install in the reverse order of removal. Headlamp high/low beam (Xenon) : 12V - 35W (D2S)
Parking lamp (Clearance lamp) : 12V - 5W

Disassembly and Assembly AKS007MY
DISASSEMBLY
1. Turn plastic cap counterclockwise and unlock it.
2. Turn xenon bulb socket counterclockwise, and unlock it.
3. Unlock retaining spring, and remove xenon bulb.
4. Disconnect HID control unit connector, and remove HID control unit screws.
5. Turn parking lamp bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
6. Remove parking lamp bulb from its socket.
7. Turn front turn signal lamp bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
8. Remove front turn signal lamp bulb from its socket.
9. Turn front side marker lamp bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
10. Remove front side marker lamp bulb from its socket.
ASSEMBLY
Note the following, and assemble in the reverse order of disassembly.
CAUTION:
When HID control unit is removed, reinstall it securely and avoid any looseness.
After installing bulb, be sure to install plastic cap and bulb socket securely to insure watertight-

FRONT FOG LAMP

Bulb Replacement AKS007CU
1. Remove left side fender protector (front). Refer to EI-25,
"Removal and Installation" , EI-14, "Removal and Installation" in
“EI” section.
2. Disconnect fog lamp connector.
3. Turn bulb socket counterclockwise and unlock it.
CAUTION:
Do not touch the glass of bulb directly by hand. Keep
grease and other oily matters away from it. Do not touch
bulb by hand while it is lit or right after being turned off.
Burning may result.
Do not leave bulb out of fog lamp reflector for a long time because dust, moisture smoke, etc.
May affect the performance of fog lamp. When replacing bulb, be sure to replace it with new
one.
Removal and Installation AKS007CV
REMOVAL
1. Remove front bumper fascia. Refer to EI-14, "Removal and
Installation" in “EI” section.
2. Remove fog lamp mounting bolt.
3. Pull out fog lamp from vehicle and disconnect fog lamp connec-
tor.
INSTALLATION
Install fog lamp in the reverse order of removal, observing the tightening torque shown below.Fog lamp : 12 V - 51 W (HB4 halogen)

1. Remove bumper side cover A. Refer to EI-18, "Removal and

2. Disconnect rear combination lamp connector.
3. Remove rear combination lamp mounting bolts.
4. Pull rear combination lamp toward side of the vehicle and
remove from the vehicle.

EXTERIOR LAMP BATTERY SAVER CONTROL
When the combination switch (lighting switch) is in the 1ST or 2ND position (or if auto light system is acti-
vated), and the ignition switch is turned from ON or ACC to OFF, the battery saver control function is activated.
Under this condition, the illumination lamps remain illuminated for 5 minutes, then the illumination lamps are
turned off.
When the lighting switch is turned from OFF to 1ST or 2ND position (or if auto light system is activated) after
illumination lamps are turned off by the battery saver control, and illumination lamps illuminate again.
Exterior lamp battery saver control mode can be changed by the function setting of CONSULT-II.
CAN Communication System DescriptionAKS007EJ
CAN (Controller Area Network) is a serial communication line for real time application. It is an on-vehicle mul-
tiplex communication line with high data communication speed and excellent error detection ability. Many elec-
tronic control units are equipped onto a vehicle, and each control unit shares information and links with other
control units during operation (not independent). In CAN communication, control units are connected with 2
communication lines (CAN H line, CAN L line) allowing a high rate of information transmission with less wiring.
Each control unit transmits/receives data but selectively reads required data only.

9. Use a rear cover wrench (SST), install rear cover to gear housing assembly.
10. Confirm projection on rear cover cap nearly fit with marking position on gear housing assembly.

) to the thread of adjusting screw to the
adjusting screw height from gear housing assembly. The adjust-
ing screw height is the same as it was measured in the overhaul
in advance.
12. Rotate pinion ten times whole range of rack so that parts get to
fit with each other.
13. Measure pinion rotating torque within from –180° to +180°,
make preload gauge (SST) and torque adapter (SST) in rack
neutral position, then hold preload gauge (SST) at maximum
torque.
14. After loosening adjusting screw once, tighten it again with torque
of 5.4 N·m (0.55 kg-m, 48 in-lb). After that loosen it within 20° to
40°.
15. Measure pinion rotating torque with torque adapter (SST) and
preload gauge (SST), then confirm whether it's reading is within
the specified value. If the reading is not within the specified
value, readjust screw angle with adjusting screw. Change gear
assembly to new one, if the reading is still not within the speci-
fied value or the rotating torque of adjusting screw is less than 5
N·m (0.51 kg-m, 44 in-lb).
16. Turn pinion fully to the end of the left with inner socket to gear housing assembly.
17. Set dial gauge to rack as shown in the figure. Measure vertical
movement of rack when pinion is turned counterclockwise with
torque of 19.6 N·m (2.0 kg-m, 14 ft-lb). Check reading is within
the specified value. If reading is outside of the specification,
readjust screw angle with adjusting screw. If reading is still out-
side of specification, or if the rotating torque of adjusting screw is
less than 5 N·m (0.51 kg-m, 44 in-lb), replace steering gear
assembly.

WHEEL HUB

Wheel Bearing
1. Press fit a wheel hub into wheel bearing with a drift (SST).
CAUTION:
Press fit a drift (SST) while holding it against wheel bear-
ing inner side inner race.
Wheel bearing cannot be reused. Do not attempt to reuse
it.
NOTE:
Final press load guideline 49,033 N (5,000 kg, 11,000 lb)
2. Install back plate and wheel hub and bearing assembly.
3. Install anchor block onto axle.
INSPECTION AFTER ASSEMBLY
1. With wheel bearing pressed into axle housing, apply 49,033 N (5,000 kg, 11,000 lb) to wheel hub and
rotate both clockwise and counterclockwise 10 times to minimize resistance.
2. Attach spring scale in the position shown in illustration and pull
at a rate of 10 ± 2 rpm to measure rotating torque.
