DOOR LOCKS
Operating door locks from
outside the vehicle
To remove the cover1. Pull out the door handle.
2. Press the lever (3) located inside the bottom part of the cover with a
key or flat-head screwdriver.
3. Push out the cover (4) while press‐ ing the lever.
CAUTION
Be careful not to damage the coverwhile removing it or to misplace itafter removing it.
• Turn the key toward the rear of thevehicle to unlock and toward the
front of the vehicle to lock.

In case of an emergency

If the power door lock switch does not
operate electrically, the only way to lock the door(s) is with the mechanical
key from the outside key hole.
You can lock the doors without the out‐
side key hole as follows: 1. Open the door.
2. Insert the key into the emergency door lock hole and turn the key
horizontally to lock (1).
3. Close the door securely.

• If the inner door handle of the frontdoor/all doors (if equipped) is pulled
when the door lock button is in the lock position, the button is unlocked
and the door will open. (if equipped)
• Doors cannot be locked if the smart key is in the vehicle and any door is
opened.
WARNING
nDoor lock malfunction
If a power door lock ever fails tofunction while you are in the vehicle,try one or more of the followingtechniques to exit:•Operate the door unlock featurerepeatedly (both electronic andmanual) while simultaneously pull‐ing on the door handle.
•Operate the other door locks andhandles, front and rear.
•Lower a front window and use thekey to unlock the door from out‐side.
•Move to the cargo area and openthe trunk.
With central door lock switch

Operate by pressing the central door
lock switch. • When pressing the right portion (1) of the switch, all vehicle doors will lock.
• When pressing the left portion (2) of the switch, all vehicle doors will un‐lock.
• If the smart key is in the vehicle and any door is opened, the doors will not
lock even though the right portion (1)
of the central door lock switch is pressed.
WARNING
nDoors
•The doors should always be fullyclosed and locked while the vehicleis in motion to prevent accidentalopening of the door. Locked doorswill also discourage potential in‐truders when the vehicle stops orslows down.
•Be careful when opening doors andwatch for vehicles, motorcycles,bicycles or pedestrians approach‐ing the vehicle in the path of thedoor. Opening a door when some‐thing is approaching can causedamage or injury.
WARNING
nUnlocked vehicles
Leaving your vehicle unlocked can in‐vite theft or possible harm to you orothers from someone hiding in yourvehicle while you are gone. Alwayspress the engine start/stop buttonto the OFF position, engage the

parking brake, close all windows andlock all doors when leaving your ve‐hicle unattended.
WARNING
nUnattended children
An enclosed vehicle can become ex‐tremely hot, causing death or severeinjury to unattended children or ani‐mals who cannot escape the vehicle.Furthermore, children might operatefeatures of the vehicle that could in‐jure them, or they could encounterother harm, possibly from someonegaining entry to the vehicle. Neverleave children or animals unattendedin your vehicle.
Door lock/unlock features
Impact sensing door unlock system
(if equipped)
All doors will automatically unlock when
an impact causes the air bags to de‐ ploy.
Speed sensing door lock system (if
equipped)
All doors will automatically lock afterthe vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h.
You can activate or deactivate the auto
door lock/unlock features in the vehicle.

TRUNK
Opening the trunk
1. Make sure the shift lever is in P andset the parking brake.
2. Then do one of the following: - Press the Remote key or SmartKey Trunk Unlock button for
more than one second.
- Press the button on the trunk it‐ self with the Smart Key in your
possession.
- Use the mechanical key.

• To open the trunk from inside the ve‐ hicle, push the trunk lid release but‐
ton.
NOTICE
In cold and wet climates, trunk lock
and trunk mechanisms may not
work properly due to freezing condi‐
tions.
WARNING
The trunk swings upward. Make sureno objects or people are near therear of the vehicle when opening thetrunk.
CAUTION
Make certain that you close thetrunk before driving your vehicle.Possible damage may occur to theattached hardware if the trunk isnot closed prior to driving.
Closing the trunk
To close, lower the trunk lid, then press
down on it until it locks. To be sure the trunk lid is securely fastened, always
check by trying to pull it up again.
WARNING
The trunk lid should always be keptcompletely closed while the vehicle isin motion. If it is left open or ajar,poisonous exhaust gases may enter

the car and serious illness or deathmay result.
NOTICE
If the trunk is closed with the smart
key in it, the chime will sound for ap‐
proximately 3 seconds and the trunk
will reopen.
WARNING
nExhaust fumes
If you drive with the trunk open, youwill draw dangerous exhaust fumesinto your vehicle which can cause se‐rious injury or death to vehicle occu‐pants.If you must drive with the trunkopen, keep the air vents and all win‐dows open so that additional outsideair comes into the vehicle.
WARNING
nRear cargo area
Occupants should never ride in therear cargo area where no restraintsare available. To avoid injury in theevent of an accident or suddenstops, occupants should always beproperly restrained.
Emergency trunk safety release
(if equipped)
Your vehicle is equipped with an emer‐
gency trunk release lever located inside the trunk. If someone is inadvertently
locked in the trunk, moving the handle
in the direction of the arrow will release the trunk latch mechanism and open
the trunk.

WARNING
•For emergencies, be fully aware ofthe location of the emergencytrunk safety release lever in thisvehicle and how to open the trunkif you are accidentally locked in thetrunk.
•No one should be allowed to occu‐py the trunk at any time. Thetrunk is a very dangerous locationin the event of a crash.
•Use the release lever for emergen‐cies only. Use extreme caution, es‐pecially while the vehicle is in mo‐tion.

SMART TRUNK (IF EQUIPPED)
On a vehicle equipped with a smart key,
the trunk can be opened with no-touch activation using the Smart Trunk sys‐
tem.
How to use the Smart Trunk
The trunk can be opened with no-touch
activation satisfying all the conditions below. • After 15 seconds when all doors are closed and locked.
• Positioned in the detecting area for more than 3 seconds.
NOTICE
•The Smart Trunk does not operate
when:
-The smart key is detected with‐
in 15 seconds after the doors
are closed and locked, and is
continuously detected.
-The smart key is detected with‐
in 15 seconds after the doors
are closed and locked, and
1.5 m from the front door han‐
dles (for vehicles equipped with
Welcome Light).
-A door is not locked or closed.
-The smart key is in the vehicle.

How to deactivate the Smart
Trunk function using the smart
key
1. Door lock
2. Door unlock
3. Trunk open
If you press any button of the smart
key during the Detect and Alert stage, the Smart Trunk function will be deacti‐
vated.
Make sure to be aware of how to deac‐
tivate the Smart Trunk function for emergency situations.
NOTICE
•If you press the door unlock but‐
ton (2), the Smart Trunk function
will be deactivated temporarily.
But, if you do not open any door
for 30 seconds, the Smart Trunk
function will be activated again.
•If you press the trunk open button
(3) for more than 1 second, the
trunk opens.
•If you press the door lock button
(1) or trunk open button (3) when
the Smart Trunk function is not in
the Detect and Alert stage, the
Smart Trunk function will not be
deactivated.
•In case you have deactivated the
Smart Trunk function by pressing
the smart key button and opened
a door, the Smart Trunk function
can be activated again by closing
and locking all doors.
Detecting area
• The Smart Trunk operates with a welcome alert if the smart key is de‐
tected within 50~100 cm from the trunk.
• The alert stops at once if the smart key is positioned outside the detect‐
ing area during the Detect and Alert
stage.
