The igni‐tion key (smart key) would enablechildren to operate power windowsor other controls, or even make thevehicle move, which could result inserious bodily injury or even death.Never leave the keys in your vehiclewith unsupervised children, whenthe engine is running.
WARNING
Kia recommends to use parts for re‐placement from an authorized Kiadealer/service partner. If an after‐market key is used, the ignitionswitch may not return to ON afterSTART. If this happens, the starterwill continue to operate causingdamage to the starter motor andpossible fire due to excessive currentin the wiring.
Immobilizer system
Your vehicle may be equipped with an
electronic engine immobilizer system to
reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle
use.
Your immobilizer system is comprised of a small transponder in the ignition
key and electronic devices inside the
vehicle.
Vehicles without smart key system
With the immobilizer system, whenever
you insert your ignition key into the ig‐ nition switch and turn it to ON, it checks
and determines and verifies if the igni‐
tion key is valid or not.If the key is valid, the engine will start.
If the key is invalid, the engine will not
start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system:
Insert the ignition key into the key cyl‐ inder and turn it to the ON position.
To activate the immobilizer system:
Turn the ignition key to the OFF posi‐
tion. The immobilizer system activates
automatically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not
start.
Vehicles with smart key system
Whenever the engine start/stop button
is changed to the ON position, the im‐
mobilizer system checks and verifies if the key is valid or not. If the key is valid, the engine will start.
If the key is invalid, the engine will not
start.
To deactivate the immobilizer system
Change the engine start/stop button to
the ON position.
To activate the immobilizer system
Change the engine start/stop button to the OFF position. The immobilizer sys‐
tem activates automatically. Without a
valid smart key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.
WARNING
In order to prevent theft of your ve‐hicle, do not leave spare keys any‐where in your vehicle. Your immobil‐izer password is a customer uniquepassword and should be kept confi‐dential. Do not leave this numberanywhere in your vehicle.

SMART KEY (IF EQUIPPED)
09.
With a smart key, you can lock or un‐
lock a door (and tailgate) and even start the engine without inserting the
key.
The functions of buttons on a smart
key are similar to the folding key.
Smart key functions
Carrying the smart key, you may lock
and unlock the vehicle doors (and tail‐ gate). Also, you may start the engine.
Refer to the following, for more details.
Locking
Pressing the button of the front out‐
side door handles with all doors (and tailgate) closed and any door unlocked,
locks all the doors (and tailgate). If all
doors (and tailgate) and engine hood are closed, the hazard warning lights
will blink once to indicate that all doors
(and tailgate) are locked. The button will only operate when the
smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.)
from the outside door handle. If you
want to make sure that a door has locked or not, you should check the
door lock button inside the vehicle or
pull the outside door handle.
Even though you press the outside door
handle buttons, the doors will not lock and the chime will sound for 3 seconds
if any of following occur: • The smart key is in the vehicle.
• The ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ACC or ON position.
• Any door except the tailgate is open.
Unlocking
Pressing the button of the front out‐
side door handles with all doors (and tailgate) closed and locked, unlocks all
the doors (and tailgate). The hazard
warning lights blink twice to indicate that all doors (and tailgate) are un‐
locked.

smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the outside door handle.
