OVERHAUL

1. DISCHARGE REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM (See page 55-8)
SST 07110-58060 (07117-58080, 07117-58090, 07117-78050, 07117-88060, 07117-88070,
07117-88080)
2. DISCONNECT COOLER REFRIGERANT SUCTION
HOSE NO.1
(a) Install SST to piping clamp.
SST 09870-00015
HINT:
Confirm the direction of the piping clamp claw and SST using
the illustration showing on the caution label.
(b) Push down SST and release the clamp lock.
NOTICE:
Be careful not to deform the tube, when pushing SST.
(c) Pull SST slightly and push the release lever, then remove
the piping clamp with SST.
(d) Disconnect the cooler refrigerant suction hose No. 1.
NOTICE:
Do not use tools like screwdriver to remove the tube.
Cap the open fittings immediately to keep moisture or
dirt out of the system.
3. DISCONNECT COOLER REFRIGERANT LIQUID PIPE A
SST 09870-00025
HINT:
Disconnect cooler refrigerant liquid pipe A in the same way as the cooler refrigerant suction hose No. 1.
4. DISCONNECT HEATER OUTLET WATER HOSE
(a) Using pliers, grip the claws of clip and slide the clip and
disconnect the heater outlet water hose.

113. INSTALL NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING
(a) Using SST and a press, install the needle roller bearing
to the transaxle rear cover.
SST 09950-60010 (09951-00230, 09952-06010)
Press fit depth: 20.55 - 21.25 mm (0.8091 - 0.8366 in.)
NOTICE:
Face the inscribed mark side of the bearing race up.
Repeat the press fit until the specified value is ob-
tained.
(b) Coat a needle roller bearing with ATF.
114. INSTALL REAR CLUTCH OIL SEAL RING OUTER
(a) Coat the 3 new rear clutch oil seal rings with ATF, install
them to the transaxle rear cover.
NOTICE:
The snap ring should be fixed certainly in the groove of the
drum.
115. INSTALL TRANSAXLE CASE NO.1 PLUG
(a) Install the 4 new O-ring to the 4 transaxle case No. 1
plugs.
(b) Install the 4 transaxle case No. 1 plugs to the transaxle
rear cover.
Torque: 7.4 NVm (75 kgfVcm, 65 in.Vlbf)
116. INSTALL TRANSAXLE REAR COVER SUB-ASSY
(a) Remove any packing material and be careful not to get oil
on the contacting surfaces of the transaxle rear cover or
the transaxle case.
(b) Apply FIPG to the cover.
FIPG:
Part No. 08826-00090, THREE BOND 1281 or equiva-
lent.
NOTICE:
Concerning about the amount of the FIPG application, the
amount should be controlled to from even sealing film on
entire flange surface and have slight protrusion of the FIPG
all around of the connecting area. The FIPG shall be ap-
plied continuously on the flange. (Reference value of the
section diameter: f1.2)

11. INSTALL FORWARD MULTIPLE DISC CLUTCH
CLUTCH DISC
(a) Coat the 5 discs with ATF.
(b) Install the 5 plates, 5 discs and flange input shaft.
NOTICE:
Be careful about the order of discs, plates and flange as-
sembly.
(c) Using a screwdriver, install the snap ring.
(d) Check that the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with
one of the cutouts.
NOTICE:
The snap ring should be fixed certainly in the groove of the
drum.
12. INSPECT PACK CLEARANCE OF FORWARD CLUTCH
(a) Using a dial indicator, measure the forward clutch pack
clearance while applying and releasing compressed air
(392 kgfVcm
2, 4.0 kPa, 57 psi).
Pack clearance: 1.00 - 1.25 mm (0.0394 - 0.4921 in.)
If the piston stroke is less than the minimum, parts may have
been assembled incorrectly. Check and reassemble again.
If the clearance is not standard, select another flange.

There are 5 different flanges in thickness.

13. INSPECT FORWARD MULTIPLE DISC CLUTCH
CLUTCH DISC
(a) Check if the disc lightly rotates when rotating the forward
clutch assy after inserting the multiple disc clutch into it.
NOTICE:
Do not place the forward clutch assy in a vise.

ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
(a) Apply the parking brake and turn the ignition switch to ON.
(b) Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts only when the shift lever is set in N or P posi-
tion.
(c) Check that the back-up light is lit and the reverse warning buzzer sounds only when the shift lever is
set in R position.
If a failure is found, check the continuity of the park/neutral position switch.
2. ADJUST PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSY
(a) Loosen the 2 bolts of park/neutral position switch and set
the shift lever to the N position.
(b) Align the groove with neutral basic line.
(c) Hold the switch in position and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque: 5.4 NVm (55 kgfVcm, 48 in.Vlbf)
(d) After adjustment, perform the inspection described in
step 1.

(b) Using a screwdriver, release the 4 claws and remove the
position indicator housing.
20. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LIGHT GUIDE
(a) Using a screwdriver, release the 4 claws and remove the
position indicator light guide.
21. REMOVE INDICATOR LAMP WIRE SUB-ASSY
(a) Remove the indicator lamp wire from the position indica-
tor light guide.
22. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LAMP CAP
(a) Remove the floor shift position indicator lamp cap from the floor shift position indicator lamp bulb.
23. REMOVE POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB
(a) Remove the floor shift position indicator lamp bulb from the indicator lamp wire.
24. REMOVE SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON COVER
(a) Using a screwdriver, remove the shift lock release button
cover.

30. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR SLIDE COVER
(a) Install the position indicator slide cover to the shift lever.
31. INSTALL POSITION INDICATOR LAMP BULB

ADJUSTMENT
1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) When shifting from P to R position only with ignition switch ON and brake pedal, make sure that the
shifting lever moves smoothly and can be moderately operated.
(b) When starting engine, make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from N to D position
and moves rearward when shifting to R position.
2. ADJUST SHIFT LEVER POSITION
(a) Loosen the nut on the control shaft lever.
(b) Push the control shaft fully downward.
(c) Return the control shaft lever 2 notches to N position.
(d) Set the shift lever to N position.
(e) While holding the shift lever lightly toward the R position
side, tighten the shift lever nut.
Torque: 14.7 N´m (150 kgf´cm, 10 ft´lbf)
(f) Start the engine and make sure that the vehicle moves
forward when shifting the lever from N to D position and
moves rearward when shifting it to R position.

(1) Connect the vinyl tube to the bleeder plug at the
right front wheel or the right rear wheel and loosen
the bleeder plug.
(2) Operate the brake actuator assy using the hand-
held tester to bleed the air.
NOTICE:
The operation stops automatically in 4 seconds.
At this time, be sure to release the brake pedal.
(3) Check that the operation has stopped, by referring
to the hand-held tester display.
(4) Repeat (2) and (3) until all the air in the fluid is com-
pletely bled out.
(5) Tighten the bleeder plug certainly.
Torque: 8.3 NVm (85 kgfVcm, 73 in.Vlbf)
(6) For the rest of the wheels, bleed the air in the same
way as stated in the above procedure.
(f) Bleed the air out of the pressure reduction line in ºStep3:
Decreaseº on the hand-held tester display.
NOTICE:
Perform air bleeding by following the steps displayed
on the hand-held tester.
Make sure that the brake fluid in the master cylinder
reservoir tank does not become empty.
(1) Connect a vinyl tube to either one of the bleeder
plugs.
(2) Loosen the bleeder plug.
(3) Using the hand-held tester, operate the brake ac-
tuator assy using hand-held tester, completely de-
press the brake pedal and keep it.
NOTICE:
The operation stops automatically in 4 seconds.
When performing this procedure continuously, an in-
terval of at least 20 seconds is required.
When the operation is completed, the brake pedal
slightly goes down. This is a normal phenomenon
caused when the solenoid opens.
During this procedure, the pedal seems heavy, but
completely depress it so that the brake fluid comes
out from the bleeder plug.
Be sure to keep depressing the brake pedal. Never
depress and release the pedal repeatedly.
(4) Tighten the bleeder plug, then release the brake
pedal.
(5) Repeat (2) to (4) until all the air in the fluid is com-
pletely bled out.
(6) Tighten the bleeder plug certainly.
Torque: 8.3 NVm (85 kgfVcm, 73 in.Vlbf)
(7) Repeat the above procedure to bleed the air out of
the brake line for each wheel.

BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT ASSY
ADJUSTMENT
1. CHECK AND ADJUST BRAKE PEDAL HEIGHT
(a) Inspect brake pedal height.
Pedal height from asphalt sheet:
144.1 - 154.1 mm (5.673 - 6.067 in.)
(b) Adjust brake pedal height.
(1) Remove the instrument panel finish panel sub-
assy lower and instrument panel insert sub-assy
lower LH.
(2) Disconnect the connector from the stop lamp
switch.
(3) Loosen the stop lamp switch lock nut and remove
the stop lamp switch.
(4) Loosen the clevis lock nut.
(5) Adjust the pedal height by turning the pedal push
rod.
(6) Tighten the push rod lock nut.
Torque: 26 NVm (265 kgfVcm, 19 ftVlbf)
(7) Install the stop lamp switch.
(8) Connect the connector to the stop lamp switch.
(9) Push the brake pedal in 5 - 10 mm (0.20 - 0.39 in.),
turn the stop lamp switch to lock the nut in the posi-
tion where the stop lamp goes off.
(10) After installation, push the brake pedal in 5 - 10 mm
(0.20 - 0.39 in.), check that stop lamp lights up.
(11) Install the instrument panel insert sub-assy lower
LH and instrument panel finish panel sub-assy low-
er.
