27. INSTALL STARTER ASSY
(a) Install the starter assy with the 2 bolts.
Torque: 37 NVm (377 kgfVcm, 27 ftVlbf)
(b) Connect the connecter.
(c) Install the starter wire and nut.
Torque: 9.8 NVm (100 kgfVcm, 87 inVlbf)
28. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS
(a) Install the wire harness and bolt.
Torque: 13 NVm (130 kgfVcm, 9 ftVlbf)
29. INSTALL WIRE HARNESS CLAMP
(a) Install the 2 clamps and 2 bolts.
Torque: 8.4 NVm (86 kgfVcm, 74 in.Vlbf)
(b) Connect the wire harnesses to the clamps.
30. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE
BRACKET NO.2
(a) Install the transmission control cable bracket No.2 with a
bolt.
Torque: 12 NVm (122 kgfVcm, 9 ftVlbf)

(a) Install the 2 magnets in the oil pan.
(b) Apply seal packing to 18 bolts.
Seal packing:
THREE BOND 2430 or equivalent
(c) Install a new gasket, oil pan and 18 bolts to the transaxle
case.
Torque: 7.8 NVm (80 kgfVcm, 69 in.Vlbf)
NOTICE:
Since the bolts should be seal bolts, apply seal packing to
the bolts and tighten them within 10 minutes after applying.

In addition to this new pre±delivery battery test, a monthly battery inspection is still
required for stored vehicles. If your dealership is located in an area subject to extreme
temperatures (hot or cold), periodic maintenance may need to be performed more
frequently.
To reduce parasitic battery drain for vehicles in storage for one week or more, the
negative battery cable should always be disconnected to reduce battery discharge.
When the negative battery cable is reconnected, please check and reset electrical
components such as the clock, radio, etc.
NOTE:
For your reference, the electrical system is made inoperative by removing the
appropriate fuse indicated in the Electrical Wiring Diagram. Recom-

August 26, 2002: ES 300, GS 300, and IS 300 models added. Model years for GS 430
and LX 470 vehicles expanded to include 2002 and later. Diagnostic Tester software
in Required Tools & Material updated to version 9.01a (or later).
Previous versions of this TSIB should be discarded.
Immobilizer Reset is a new feature that allows the registration of a new Master Key even
if all original Master Keys are lost. Once the Immobilizer system is reset, all previously
registered keys will be erased.

The Immobilizer Reset function is a 5-step process:
1. Using the Diagnostic Tester, retrieve a ªSeed Numberº through the OBD/MOBD
Immobilizer function.
A ªSeed Numberº is a unique number provided by the Diagnostic Tester and
validated by TIS (Technical Information System) in order to return a Passcode.
2. Using TIS, select Immobilizer Reset, and complete the request form to retrieve a
ªPasscode Number.º
A ªPasscode Numberº is a unique number required by the Diagnostic Tester to
reset the ECU allowing it to accept a new Master Key.
3. Enter the ªPasscode Numberº received from TIS into the Diagnostic Tester.
4. Confirm successful Immobilizer reset and new Master Key registration.
5. Register any additional customer keys.
