LX570_OM_OM60L96U_(U) If the engine will not start If the engine still does not start afte r following the correct starting proce-
dure (  P. 177) or releasing the steering lock (  P. 179), confirm the fol-
lowing points.
■ The engine will not start even when the starter motor operates
normally
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● There may not be sufficient fuel in the vehicle’s tank.
Refuel the vehicle.
● The engine may be flooded.
Try to restart the engine once more following correct starting
procedures. (  P. 177)
● There may be a malfunction in the engine immobilizer system.
(  P. 119)
■ The starter motor turns over slowly, the interior lights and head-
lights are dim, or the horn does not sound or sounds at a low vol-
ume
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● The battery may be discharged. (  P. 875)
● The battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
■ The starter motor does not turn over
The engine starting sy stem may be malfunctioning due to an electri-
cal problem such as an open ci rcuit or a blown fuse. However, an
interim measure is available to start the engine. (  P. 869)

When the engine does no t start, the following s teps can be used as an
interim measure to start the engine if the “ENGINE START STOP”
switch is functioning normally.
Set the parking brake.
Put the shift lever in “P”.
Set the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to the ACCESSORY
mode.
Push and hold the “E NGINE START STOP” sw itch about 15 sec-
onds while dep ressing the brake pedal firmly.
Even if the engine can be started using the above step s, the system may
be malfunctioning. Have the vehi cle checked by your Lexus dealer.■ The starter motor does not turn ov er, the interior lights and head-
lights do not turn on, or the horn does not sound
One of the following may be the cause of the problem.
● The battery terminal connections may be loose or corroded.
● The battery may be discharged. (  P. 875)
● There may be a malfunction in the steering lock system.Contact your Lexus dealer, if the problem cannot be repaired, or if
repair procedures are unknown.

Locking and unlocking the do ors and key linked functions
Using the mechanical key (  P. 31)
in order to perform the following
operations.
Locks all doors
Closes the windows/moon roof
(turn and hold)
*Unlocks the door
Turning the key rearward
unlocks the driver’s door. Turn-
ing the key once again unlocks
the other doors.
Opens the windows/moon roof
(turn and hold)

at your Lexus dealer.If communication between the electron ic key and vehicle is interrupted
(  P. 40) or the electronic key cannot be used because the battery is
depleted, the smart access system wi th push-button start and wireless
remote control cannot be used. In su ch cases, the doors can be opened or
the engine can be started by following the procedure below.

Stopping the engine
Shift the shift lever to “P ” and press the “ENGINE START STOP” switch as you nor-
mally do when stopping the engine. ■
Replacing the key battery
As the above procedure is a temporary meas ure, it is recommended that the elec-
tronic key battery be replaced immediately when the battery is depleted.
(  P. 784)■
Changing “ENGINE START STOP” switch modes
Within 10 seconds of the buzzer sounding, release the brake pedal and press the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch.
The engine does not start and modes will be changed each time the switch is
pressed. (  P. 178)■
Alarm
Using the mechanical key to lock th e doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key when the alarm system is set, the
alarm may be triggered. (  P. 121)
CAUTION■
When using the mechanical key and operating the power windows and moon
roof
Operate the power window or moon roof after checking to make sure that there is
no possibility of any passenger having any of their body parts caught in the window
or moon roof.
Also, do not allow children to operate the mechanical key. It is possible for children
and other passenger s to get caught in power window and moon roof.

battery is discharged.
You can also call your Lexus de aler or qualified repair shop.
If you have a set of jumper (or booster) cables and a second vehicle
with a 12-volt battery, you can jump start your Lexus following the
steps below.
Open the hood. Remove the engine compartment cover.

Connect the jumper cables.
Positive (+) battery terminal on your vehicle
Positive (+) battery terminal on the second vehicle
Negative (-) battery terminal on the second vehicle
Connect the jumper cable to ground on your vehicle as shown in

Starting the engine when the battery is discharged
The engine cannot be started by push-starting. ■
Avoiding a discharged battery ●
Turn off the headlights and the audi o system while the engine is off.●
Turn off any unnecessary electrical compon ents when the vehicle is running at a
low speed for an extended period, such as in heavy traffic, etc.■
Charging the battery
The electricity stored in the battery will discharge gradually even when the vehicle
is not in use, due to natural discharge and the draining effects of certain electrical
appliances. If the vehicle is left for a long time, the battery may discharge, and the
engine may be unable to start. (The battery recharges automatically during driving.) ■
When the battery is removed or discharged ●
The power back door must be initialized. (  P. 60)●
Make sure the key is not inside the vehicle when recharging or replacing the
battery. The key may be locked in th e vehicle if the alarm is activated. (  P. 122)Start the engine of the second vehicle. Increase the engine
speed slightly and maintain at that level for approximately 5
minutes to recharge the battery of your vehicle.
Open and close any of the do ors with the “ENGINE START
STOP” switch off.
Maintain the engine speed of th e second vehicle and turn the
“ENGINE START STOP” switch to IGNITION ON mode,
then start the vehicle’s engine.
Once the vehicle’s engine has started, remove the jumper
cables in the exact reverse order in which they were con-
nected.
Once the engine starts, have th e vehicle checked at your Lexus
dealer, as soon as possible. STEP 3

Avoiding battery fires or explosions
Observe the following precautions to prev ent accidentally igni ting the flammable
gas that may be emitted from the battery. ●
Make sure the jumper cable is connected to the correct terminal and that it is not
unintentionally in contact with any pa rt other than the intended terminal.●
Do not allow the jumper cables to come into contact with the “+” and “-” termi-
nals. ●
Do not allow open flame or use matches, cigarette lighters or smoke near the
battery.■
Battery precautions
The battery contains poisonou s and corrosive acidic electrolyte, while related parts
contain lead and lead compounds. Obse rve the following precautions when han-
dling the battery. ●
When working with the battery, always we ar safety glasses and take care not to
allow any battery fluids (acid) to come into contact with skin, clothing or the vehi-
cle body. ●
Do not lean over the battery. ●
In the event that battery fluid comes into contact with the skin or eyes, immedi-
ately wash the affected area with water and seek medical attention.
Place a wet sponge or cloth over the affe cted area until medi cal attention can be
received. ●
Always wash your hands after handling th e battery support, terminals, and other
battery-related parts. ●
Do not allow children near the battery.
NOTICE■
When handling jumper cables
Be careful that the jumper cables do not become tangled in the cooling fan or any
of the belts when connectin g or disconnecting them.

If the smart access system with push-bu tton start is turned “OFF”, unlock door
cannot be selected. ●
If the doors are not opened after unlo cking and are then automatically re-
locked, a signal will be given if “Ope ration signal (Emergency flashers)” or
“Operation signal (Bu zzer)” are set to ON.■
When setting using the vehicle switches
When using the vehicle switches to set an item that can also be set using the touch
screen, the item displayed on the touc h screen will not change immediately.
If the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is first turned to OFF, the screen display will
change once the “ENGINE START STOP” switch is turned to IGNITION ON
mode again. ■
When customizing using the touch screen
Stop the vehicle in a safe place, apply the parking brake, and shift the shift lever to
“P”. Also, to prevent battery discharge, leave the engine running while customizing
the features.
