WARNING: Wait at least five secondsbefore removing the fuel pump nozzle toallow any residual fuel to drain into the fueltank.

1.Fully open the fuel filler door.
2.Select the correct fuel pump nozzle foryour vehicle.
3.Insert the fuel pump nozzle up to the firstnotch on the nozzle A. Keep the fuelpump nozzle resting on the fuel tank fillerpipe.
4.Hold the fuel pump nozzle in position Bwhen refueling. Holding the fuel pumpnozzle in position A can affect the flowof fuel and shut off the fuel pump nozzlebefore the fuel tank is full.
5.Operate the fuel pump nozzle within thearea shown.

6.When the nozzle shuts off, wait at least5 seconds, then slightly raise the fuelpump nozzle and slowly remove it.
7.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Do not attempt to start the engine if you havefilled the fuel tank with incorrect fuel.Incorrect fuel use could cause damage notcovered by the vehicle Warranty. Have yourvehicle immediately checked.
REFUELING YOUR VEHICLE - PLUG-INHYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE (PHEV)
WARNING: Do not pry open the fueltank filler valve. This could damage the fuelsystem. Failure to follow this instructioncould result in fire, personal injury or death.
WARNING: Do not remove the fuelpump nozzle from its fully inserted positionwhen refueling.
WARNING: Stop refueling when thefuel pump nozzle automatically shuts offfor the first time. Failure to follow this willfill the expansion space in the fuel tank andcould lead to fuel overflowing.
WARNING: Do not overfill the fueltank. The pressure in an overfilled tankmay cause leakage and lead to fuel sprayand fire.
WARNING: Wait at least five secondsbefore removing the fuel pump nozzle toallow any residual fuel to drain into the fueltank.

2.Press the button on the left side of theinstrument panel next to the headlampswitch to open the fuel filler door. Thefuel filler door can take up to 15 secondsto open before you can insert a fuel fillernozzle.
3.Insert the fuel pump nozzle up to the firstnotch on the nozzle A. Keep it restingon the cover of the fuel tank filler pipeopening.
4.Hold the fuel pump nozzle in position Bwhen refueling. Holding the fuel pumpnozzle in position A can affect the flowof fuel and shut off the fuel pump nozzlebefore the fuel tank is full.
5.Operate the fuel pump nozzle within thearea shown.
6.When the nozzle shuts off, wait at least5 seconds, then slightly raise the fuelpump nozzle and slowly remove it.
7.Fully close the fuel filler door.
Note:Leaving the fuel door open could seta check engine lamp. See Fuel andRefueling – Troubleshooting (page 231).
Complete the refueling process within 20minutes. If 20 minutes elapses, press thebutton on the left side of the instrumentpanel again. Fuel pump nozzle automaticshut off could occur if you do not press thebutton on the left side of the instrumentpanel.

MANUALLY OPENING THE FUELFILLER DOOR
WARNING: The fuel system may beunder pressure. If you hear a hissing soundnear the fuel filler inlet, do not refuel untilthe sound stops. Otherwise, fuel may sprayout, which could cause serious personalinjury.
Note:The transmission must be in park (P)or neutral (N).
When using the manual override lever dothe following:
1.Switch the ignition on.
Note:The manual override lever is in thedriver side rear wheel well area.
2.Pull the manual override lever.
3.Switch the ignition off.
4.Complete the refueling process within20 minutes.
Note:Only follow this procedure if the fuelfiller door fails to open. If the problemremains, have your vehicle checked as soonas possible.
FUEL TANK CAPACITY
Advertised Capacity
The advertised capacity is the maximumamount of fuel that you can add to the fueltank when the fuel gauge indicates empty.
In addition, the fuel tank contains an emptyreserve. The empty reserve is an unspecifiedamount of fuel that remains in the fuel tankwhen the fuel gauge indicates empty.
Note:The amount of fuel in the emptyreserve varies and should not be relied uponto increase driving range.

The information message appears when the fuel system has depressurized and opened the fuelfiller door. Fully open the fuel filler door to refuel and fully close the fuel filler door when refuelingis complete.
Fuel Door Open
Your vehicle is equipped with a sealed fuel system that requires the fuel filler door to be fullyclosed after refueling. This warning message appears when the fuel filler door is ajar. Pleasefully close the fuel filler door to avoid a "Check Engine" Light.

If you see this message and a "Check Engine" lamp illuminates, please fully close the fuel fillerdoor. The "Check Engine" Light should clear within five seconds. If the "Check Engine" lightpersists, please see your dealer.
The information message appears when the fuel system fails to depressurize, or the fuel fillerdoor fails to open. You could have to use the fuel filler door manual override lever when openingthe fuel door.

WHAT IS THE CATALYTIC
CONVERTER
The catalytic converter is part of yourvehicle's emissions system and filters harmfulpollutants from the exhaust gas.
CATALYTIC CONVERTER
PRECAUTIONS
WARNING: Do not park, idle or driveyour vehicle on dry grass or other dryground cover. The emission system heatsup the engine compartment and exhaustsystem, creating the risk of fire.
WARNING: The normal operatingtemperature of the exhaust system is veryhigh. Never work around or attempt torepair any part of the exhaust system untilit has cooled. Use special care whenworking around the catalytic converter.The catalytic converter heats up to a veryhigh temperature after only a short periodof engine operation and stays hot after theengine is switched off.
WARNING: Exhaust leaks may resultin entry of harmful and potentially lethalfumes into the passenger compartment. Ifyou smell exhaust fumes inside yourvehicle, have your vehicle inspectedimmediately. Do not drive if you smellexhaust fumes.
To avoid damaging the catalytic converter:
•Do not crank the engine for more than10 seconds at a time.
•Do not run the engine with a spark pluglead disconnected.
•Do not push-start or tow-start yourvehicle. Use booster cables. See JumpStarting the Vehicle (page 402).
•Use the correct fuel. See Fuel andRefueling (page 223).
•Do not switch the ignition off when yourvehicle is moving.
•Avoid running out of fuel.
•Have the items listed in scheduledmaintenance information performedaccording to the specified schedule.
Note:Do not make any unauthorizedchanges to your vehicle or engine. By law,vehicle owners and anyone whomanufactures, repairs, or services a fleet ofvehicles are not permitted to intentionallyremove an emission control device orprevent it from working.

Your vehicle has an on-board diagnosticssystem that monitors the emission controlsystem. If any of the following warning lampsilluminate, this may indicate that the on-boarddiagnostics system has detected an emissioncontrol system malfunction.
Continuing to drive your vehicle may causereduced power or the engine to stop. Failureto respond to a warning lamp may causedamage that your vehicle Warranty may notcover. Have your vehicle checked as soonas possible.

WARNING: Do not touch theelectronic ignition system parts after youhave switched the ignition on or when theengine is running. The system operates athigh voltage. Failure to adhere to thiswarning could result in serious personalinjury or death.
Your vehicle consists of various high-voltagecomponents and wiring. All of thehigh-voltage power flows through specificwiring assemblies labeled as such or coveredwith a solid orange convolute, or orangestriped tape, or both. Do not come in contactwith these components.
