Manualgearshifting
\nWARNINGRisk of skidding and of anaccident duetoshifting down on slipperyroad surfaces
Ifyou shift down on slipperyroad surfacestoincreasethe engine braking effect, the drivewheels may lose traction.
Do not shift down on slipperyroad sur‐facestoincreasethe engine brakingeffect.
Whenthe automatic transmission is shiftedtoposition[,you can manually shift it withthe
steering wheel paddle shifter. If permitted, theautomatic transmission shiftstothe nextgearup or down depending onthesteering wheelpaddle shifter being pulled.

WhenActiveParking Assist has detected parkingspaces, thefollowing symbol appears inthe mul‐tifunction display inthe instrument cluster:
The arrows show on which side oftheroadwayfree parking spaces are located. They arethenshown inthe multimedia system display.
The parking space and, if necessary, the parkingdirection can be selected as desired.ActiveParking Assist calculates a suitablevehicle pathand assistsyou in parking andexitingthe park‐ing space.
Vehicles with automatic transmission:ActiveParking Assist supports withchanginggear, accelerating, braking andsteeringthevehicle.
ActiveParking Assist is only an aid. It is not asubstituteforyour attentiontothe surroundings.Theresponsibilityfor safe maneuvering andparkingremains withyou. Make surethat nopersons, animals or objectsetc. are inthemaneuveringrange.
ActiveParking Assist is canceled if, amongotherthings, one ofthefollowing actions is carriedout:
RYou deactivateParking AssistPARKTRONIC.
RYou deactivateActiveParking Assist.
RYou beginsteering.
RYou applythe parking brake.
RVehicles with automatic transmission:You engagetransmission position].

RYou openthe doors orthe trunk lid whiledriving.
System limitationsObjects located aboveor belowthe detectionrange ofActiveParking Assist are not detectedwhenthe parking space is being measured. These are also nottaken into account whentheparking maneuver is calculated, e.g.overhangingloads,overhangs or loadingramps of trucksorthe boundaries of parking spaces. In some cir‐cumstances,ActiveParking Assist maythereforeguideyou intothe parking space prematurely.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident duetoobjects located aboveor belowthedetectionrange ofActiveParking Assist
Ifthere are objects aboveor belowthedetectionrange, thefollowing situations mayarise:
RActiveParking Assist maysteertoo early.
RVehicles with automatic transmis‐sion:Thevehicle may notstop in front ofthese objects.
This could cause a collision.
Inthese situations, do not useActiveParking Assist.
Snowfall or heavyrain may leadtoa parkingspace being measured inaccurately.Parkingspacesthat are partiallyoccupiedbytrailerdrawbars might not be identified as such or bemeasured incorrectly. Only useActiveParkingAssist on level, high-gripground.

\nWARNINGRisk of accident duetovehi‐cle swinging out while parking or pullingout of a parking space
While parking orexiting a parking space, thevehicle swings out and can drive onto areasofthe oncoming lane.
This could causeyoutocollide withobjectsorotherroad users.
Pay attentiontoobjects andotherroadusers.
Where necessary, stopthevehicle orcancelthe parking procedure withActiveParking Assist.

After completion ofthe parking procedure, safeguardthevehicle againstrollingaway.Whenrequiredbylegalrequirements or localconditions: turnthe wheelstowardsthe curb.
You canstopthevehicle andchangethetransmission position duringthe parking pro‐cedure. The systemthen calculates a new
vehicle path. The parking procedure canthen be continued. If no newvehicle path isavailable, the transmission position will bechanged again. Ifthevehicle has notyetreachedthe parking space, the parking pro‐cedure will be canceled, should agear bechanged.
