ActiveSteering Assist is country-dependentand onlyavailableforvehicles withthe Driv‐ing AssistancePackage.
ActiveSteering Assist is operational at speedsupto130mph (210km/h) and helpsyoutostayinthe center ofthe lanebymeans of moderatesteering interventions. It usesthevehicle in frontandthe lane markings as areference dependingonthe driven speed.
Whenthe system is activelysteering,theèsymbol is shown in green inthe multifunctiondisplay.
Ifthe detection of lane markings andvehiclesahead is impaired,ActiveSteering Assistswitchestopassive mode. The system providesno support inthis case. Duringthe transitionfrom activetopassivestatus,theèsymbol isshown as enlarged andflashesyellow.Oncethesystem is passive,theèsymbol is shown asgrayinthe multifunction display.

Steering andtouch detectionThe driver isrequiredtokeeptheir hands onthesteering wheel at all times and be abletointer‐vene at any timetocorrectthe course ofthevehicle andkeep it in lane. The driver mustexpect achange from activetopassive mode orviceversa at any time.
Ifthe systemreaches a system limitation orthedriver has notsteeredthevehiclefor a consider‐able period of time or hasremovedtheir handsfromthesteering wheel,the system will,depending onthe situation, alertthe drivereither with a visualwarning or a visual andacousticwarning. Display1appears inthe mul‐tifunction display.
Ifthe driver does notsteerthevehicleover along period, or has nottaken hold ofthesteeringwheel, arepeatedwarningtone sounds in addi‐tiontothe visualwarning message (dependingonthe country).
Thewarning message does not appear or disap‐pears if one ofthefollowing conditions are met:
RThe driversteersthevehicle.
RThe driver presses asteering wheel button oroperatesTouch Control.
ActiveSteering Assist is only an aid. The driver isresponsibleforthe distancetothevehicle infront,forvehicle speed,for braking in good timeandforstaying in lane. Beforechanging lanes,the driver must make surethatthe neighboringlane is free (glanceoverthe shoulder).
System limitationsActiveSteering Assist has a limitedsteeringtor‐quefor lateral guidance. In some cases,thesteering intervention is not sufficienttokeepthevehicle inthe lane ortodrive pastexits.
The system may be impaired or may not functioninthefollowing instances:
RIn snow,rain,fog, heavy spray, ifthere isglare, direct sunlight,greatlyvarying ambientlight,reflections orstrong shadowsontheroadway.
RInsufficientroad illumination.
RThe windshield inthe area ofthe camera isdirty,fogged up, damaged or covered.
RAbsence of lane markings, or several unclearlane markings, or ifthe markingschangerap‐idly.
RThe distancetothevehicle in front istoosmall andthe lane markingsthus cannot bedetected.
RTheroad is narrow and winding.
RObstacles onthe lane or projecting out intothe lane.
The system does not provide assistance inthefollowing conditions:
ROn tight bends, intersections,tollstations,traffic circles and when turning.

Assistance whenchanging lanes is provided if allthefollowing conditions are met:
RYou are driving on a freeway orroad withmultiple lanes inthe direction of travel.
RThe neighboring lane is separatedbya bro‐ken lane marking.
RNovehicle is detected inthe adjacent lane.
RThe driven speed is between 50mph(80 km/h) and110mph (180 km/h).
RActive Lane Change Assistis switched on inthe multimedia system.
RActiveSteering Assist is switched on andactive.

If novehicle is detected inthe adjacent lane anda lanechange is permitted,the lanechangebegins. This is showntothe driver with a greenarrow2nexttothesteering wheel symbol.TheLane Change to the Leftmessage alsoappears,forexample. IfActive Lane ChangeAssisthas been activated withthe turn signalindicator but a lanechange is not immediatelypossible, a grayarrow1appears nexttothesteering wheel symbol, whichremains green.
Whenthe lanechange assistancestarts,the turnsignal indicator is automatically activated besidethe display inthe multifunction display.
Ifthe assistance graphic is shown whenchang‐ing lanes,the lanechange display appears with
an additional arrowpointingtowardsthe adja‐cent lane (page193).
If a lanechange is not possible,the arrow fadesout after afew seconds and a new lanechangemust be initiated. An immediate lanechange isonly possible on freeway sections without speedlimits.
Ifthe system is impaired,Active Lane ChangeAssistmay be canceled. If it is canceled,theLane Change Canceledmessage appears inthemultifunction display and awarningtone sounds.

Lane ChangeAssistcannot alwaysdetectclearly ifthe adjacent lane is free.
The lanechange might be initiated althoughthe adjacent lane is not free.
Beforechanging lanes, make surethatthe neighboring lane is free andthere isno dangerto otherroad users.

Function of HillStart Assist
HillStart Assist holdsthevehiclefor a shorttime when pullingawayon a hill underthefol‐lowing conditions:

This givesyou enough timetomoveyourfootfromthe brake pedaltothe accelerator pedaland depress it beforethevehicle beginstorollaway.
\nWARNINGRisk of accident and injuryduetothevehiclerollingaway
After a short time, HillStart Assist no longerholdsthevehicle and it canrollaway.
Therefore, swiftly moveyourfootfromthe brake pedaltothe acceleratorpedal. Never attempttoleavethevehi‐cle if it is being heldbyHillStart Assist.
HOLD function
HOLD functionThe HOLD function holdsthevehicle at astand‐still withoutrequiringyoutodepressthe brakepedal, e.g. whilewaiting in traffic.
The HOLD function is only an aid. Theresponsi‐bilityforthevehicle safelystandingstillremainswiththe driver.
System limitationsThe HOLD function is only intendedtoprovideassistance when driving and is not a sufficientmeans of safeguardingthevehicle againstrollingawaywhenstationary.
RThe incline must not be greaterthan 30%.

AIRMATIC
Function of AIRMATICAIRMATIC is an air suspension system withvaria‐ble dampingfor improved driving comfort. Theall-round level control system ensuresthe best
possible suspension and constant ground clear‐ance,even witha ladenvehicle. When driving atspeed,thevehicle is lowered automaticallytoimprove driving safety andtoreduce fuel con‐sumption.You also havethe option of manuallyadjustingthevehicle level.
