double lock function is activated as standard. It
is then not possible to open the doors from
inside the vehicle. You can deactivate the dou-
ble lock function by deactivating the interior
motion sensor (see the Digital Owner' sManual).
Opening/closing doors is then possible as fol-
lows: the doors can be opened from inside.
When alocked door is opened from inside the
vehicle, the previous unlocking proces swill be
acknowledged if the vehicle:
R has been locked with the locking butto nfor
the central locking or
R has been locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had previ-
ously been fully unlocked. Only the door which
has been opened from the inside is unlocked if
only the driver' sdoor had been previously
unlocked. Automatic locking feature

To deactivate: press and hold button :for
approximately five seconds until atone
sounds.
X To activate: press and hold button ;for
approximately five seconds until atone
sounds.
If you press one of the two buttons and do not
hear atone, the relevant setting has already
been selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when the
ignition is switched on and the wheels are turn-
ing.
Therefore, you could be locked out if:
R the vehicle is being pushed
R the vehicle is being towed
R the vehicle is being tested on adynamometer i
You can activate and deactivate the auto-
matic locking mechanism via the multimedia
system (see the Digital Owner' sManual). Unlocking/locking the driver's door
using the emergency key element
i If you want to centrally lock the vehicle using
the emergency key element ,begin by press-
ing the locking butto nfor the interior locking
mechanism while the driver' sdoor is open.
Then lock the driver' sdoor using the emer-
genc ykey element. X
Inser tthe emergency key element int oopen-
ing :in the protective cap.
X Pull and hold the door handle.
X Pull the protective cap on the emergency key
as straight as possible away from the vehicle until it releases.
X Release the door handle. X
To unlock: turn the emergency key element
anti-clockwise as far as it will go to position
1.
X To lock: turn the emergency key element

Right-hand-drive vehicle:

cases.
If yo uusethe emergency key element to unlock
and ope nthe driver' sdoor, the anti-theft alarm

You can limit the opening angl eofthe boo tlid in
the multimedi asystem (se ethe Digital Owner's
Manual).
Do not leave the key in the boot. You could oth- erwise lock yoursel fout.
Stow luggage or loads preferabl yinthe boot.

Vehicles with boot li dremote closing fea-
ture:
The boo tlid is equipped with automatic obstacle
detection with reversing feature .Ifasolid object
blocks or restricts the boo tlid whe nautomati-
cally opening, this procedure is stopped .Ifa
solid object blocks or restricts the boo tlid when
automaticall yclosing, the boo tlid opens again
automatically. The automatic obstacl erecogni-
tion with reversing function is only an aid. It is
not asubstitute for your attentivenes swhen
opening and closing the boo tlid. G
WARNING
The reversing function doe snot react:
R to soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
R over the last 8mmofthe closing path
The reversing feature cannot prevent some-
one being trapped in these situations in par-
ticular. There is ariskofi njury.

The vehicle exhaust system can become very
hot. If you use HANDS-FREE ACCESS, you
could burn yourself by touching the exhaust
system. There is arisk of injury. Always
ensure that you only make aleg movement
within the detection range of sensors.
! If the key is within the rear detection range
of KEYLESS-GO, the following situations, for
example ,could leadtot he boot lid opening
unintentionally:
R using acar wash
R using ahigh-pressure cleaner
Make sure that the key is at least 3maway
from the vehicle.
General notes With KEYLESS-GO and HANDS-FREE ACCESS,
you can open or close the boot lid or stop the
procedure withou
tusing yourh ands. This is use-
ful if you have yourh ands full.Todothis, make
ak icking movement under the bumperw ith your
foot.
Observe the following points:
R Carry yourK EYLESS-GO key abouty ourp er-
son. The KEYLESS-GO key must be in the rear detection range of the vehicle.
R When making the kicking movement, make
sure that you are standing firmly on the
ground and that there is sufficient clearance
to the rear of the vehicle .You could otherwise
lose yourb alance, e.g. on ice. R
Alwayse nsure that you only make akicking
movement within the detection range of sen- sors :.
R Stand at least 30 cm awayf rom the rear area
whiled oing so.
R Do not come into contact with the bumper
whilem aking the kicking movement. Other-
wise,t he sensors may not function correctly.
R HANDS-FREE ACCESS does not function
when the engine is started.
R Dirt causedbyr oad salt around sensors :
may restrict functionality.
Using HANDS-FREE ACCESS with apros-
thetic leg may restrict functionality.
R IfaK EYLESS-GO key is within the rear detec-
tion range of KEYLESS-GO, HANDS-FREE
ACCESS could be triggered. The boot lid could
thus be opened or closed unintentionally ,for
example ,ifyou:
- fold the ballc oupling in or out
- coupleoru ncoupleatrailer
- fit or remove arear-mounted bicycl erack
- load/unload bicycles on/from arear-
mounted bicycl erack
- sit on the edge of the boot
- set down or lift up an object behind the
vehicle
- polish the rear of the vehicle
Do not carry the KEYLESS-GO key abouty our
person in such situations. This willp revent the
unintentional opening/closing of the boot. Boot

To open/close: kick into sensor detection
range :under the bumper with your foot.
Aw arning tonew ill sound while the boot lid is
opening or closing.
X If the boot lid does not open/close after
several attempts: wait at least ten seconds
then kick under the bumper oncea gain.
If you hold your foot under the bumper for too
long, the boot lid does not open or close. Repeat
the kicking movemen tmore quickly if this
occurs.
To stop the opening or closing procedure:
R move your foot in sensor detection range :
under the bumper, or
R press the closing button on the boot lid, or
R press the Fbutton on the key
If the boot lid closing procedure has been stop-
ped:
R move your foot under the bumper again and
the boot lid will open
If the boot lid opening procedure has been stop-
ped:
R move your foot under the bumper again and

The switches for the side windows are located
on the driver' sdoor. There is also aswitch for
the front-passenger side window on the front-
passenger door.
The switches on the driver' sdoor take prece-
dence. :

X Turn the key to position 1or 2in the ignition
lock.
X To open manually: press and hold the cor-
responding button.
X To open fully: press the butto nbeyond the
point of resistance and release it.
Automatic operation is started.
X To close manually: pull the corresponding
butto nand hold it.
X To close fully: pull the buttonbeyond the
point of resistance and release it.
Automatic operation is started.
X To interrupt automatic operation: press/
pull the correspondin gswitch again.
If you press/pull the switch beyond the point of resistance and release, automatic operation is
started in the correspondin gdirection. You can
stop automatic operation by pressing/pulling
again.
You can continue to operate the side windows
after switching off the engin eorremoving the
key. This function remains activ efor five
minutes or until the driver' sorfront-passenger
door is opened. Convenience opening feature
General notes If the key is in the immediate vicinity to the vehi-
cle, the convenience openin gfunction is availa-
ble.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or KEYLESS-GO
star tfunction: you can ventilate the vehicle
before you start driving.
To do this, the key is used to carry out the fol-
lowing function ssimultaneously:
R unlock the vehicle
R open the side windows
R open the sliding sunroof or the panorama slid-
ing sunroof and the roller sunblind
R switch on the seat ventilation for the driver's
seat
The "convenience opening" feature is also avail-
able when the vehicle is unlocked.
Convenience opening feature X
Press and hold the %buttonont he key
until the side windows and the sliding sunroof
or panorama sliding sunroof are in the desired position.
If the roller sunblinds of the panorama sliding sunroof are closed, the roller sunblinds are
opened first.
X Press and hold the %buttononcem ore
until the panorama sliding sunroof reaches
the desired position.
X To interrupt convenience opening: release

X Pull the corresponding switch on the door
control panel unti lthe sid ewindow is com-
pletel yclosed (Y page 94).
X Hol dthe switch for an additiona lsecond.
If the sid ewindow opens agai nslightly:
X Immediately pull the corresponding switch on
the doo rcontrol panel unti lthe sid ewindow is
completely closed (Y page 94).
X Hol dthe switch for an additiona lsecond.
X If the corresponding sid ewindow remains
closed afte rthe button ha sbeenr eleased ,the

Problems with the side windows

WARNING
If you close aside window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window
closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing function is then not active. Parts of the
body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process, releasethe switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window. Problem

the term "sliding sunroof" refers to both types of

While opening and closing the sliding sunroof, body parts in close proximity could become
trapped. There is arisk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the opening and closing pro- cedures. If somebody becomes trapped:
R release the switch immediately, or
R during automatic operation, press the
switch briefly in any direction
The opening or closing procedure will be stop-

If children operate the sliding sunroof they
could become trapped, particularly if they are left unsupervised. There is arisk of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the key
with you and lock the vehicle. Never leave

is free of snow and ice. Otherwise, malfunc-
