To unlock the vehicle: touch the inner surface

You can no longer lock or unlock the vehicle using
KEYLESS-GO
Possible causes: = The function of the SmartKey has been deacti-
vated.
= The SmartKey battery is weak or discharged.
Activate the function of the SmartKey
(  page 64).Check the battery using the indicator lamp
(  page 63).Replace the SmartKey battery, if necessary
(  page 65).Use the replacement SmartKey.Use the emergency key to lock or unlock
(  page 70).Have the vehicle and SmartKey checked at a
qualiNed specialist workshop.There is interference from a powerful radio signal
source
Possible causes if the function of KEYLESS-GO is
impaired:
= High voltage power lines
= Mobile phones
= Electronic devices (notebooks, tablets)
= Shielding due to metal objects or induction
loops for electrical gate systems or automatic
barriersMake sure that there is suPcient distance
between the SmartKey and the potential
source of interference.

feature

the vehicle is switched on and the wheels are

Activate or deactivate Automatic Door Lock.
In the following situations, there is a danger of
being locked out when the function is activated:
= The vehicle is being towed or pushed.
= The vehicle is being tested on a roller dyna-
mometer.
Locking/unlocking the vehicle with the emer-
gency key
Unlocking a les-hand vehicle door with the
mechanical key
\bIf you unlock and open the driver\bs door with the emergency key, this will trigger the anti-
thes alarm system.\bIf you unlock the driver\bs door with the emer-
gency key, the trunk lid will not be unlocked.Remove the emergency key (  page 65).Slightly pull and hold door handle 1.Insert emergency key 2 into the lock cylinder
as shown.Turn emergency key 2 counterclockwise to
position G.Turn emergency key 2 back to its starting
position.Remove emergency key 2 and release door

Locking the doorsInsert a suitable object, e.g. the emergency
key, into opening 1 on the door lock.To lock the les-hand side of the vehicle: turn
the emergency key counterclockwise as far as
it will go.To lock the right-hand side of the vehicle: turn
the emergency key clockwise as far as it will
go.
If the locked door is then closed, it will no longer
be possible to open it from the outside.
Trunk
Opening the trunk lid
&DANGER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the trunk
lid is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion.
Always switch oM the engine before
opening the trunk lid.Never drive with the trunk lid open.*NOTE Damage to the trunk lid by obsta-
cles above the vehicle
The trunk lid swings upwards when it is
opened.
Therefore, make sure that there is suP-
cient clearance above the trunk lid.Pull the trunk lid handle.Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS: Make a
kicking movement with your foot below the

trunk lid opens.

Press and hold the - button on the Smart-
Key.If the trunk lid is stopped in an intermediate position, pull it upwards. Release it as soon as
it begins to open.With the trunk lid opening height restriction
activated, manually pull the stopped trunk lid
upwards.
If an obstacle obstructs the trunk lid during the
automatic opening process, blockage detection
will stop the trunk lid. The automatic blockage
detection function is only an aid and is not a sub-
stitute for your attentiveness.
Closing the trunk lid
&WARNING Risk of injury from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured suPciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi- cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
gage or loads against slipping or tipping
over.Observe the notes on loading the vehicle.
Notes on closing the trunk lid: your vehicle is
equipped with automatic SmartKey recognition. If
a SmartKey belonging to the vehicle is detected in
the vehicle, the trunk lid will not be locked and will pop open again.
Note that the trunk lid will not be locked if the fol- lowing situation occurs:
= You have locked the vehicle and close the
trunk lid while a SmartKey belonging to the vehicle is inside the vehicle.
and
= A second SmartKey belonging to the vehicle is
not detected outside the vehicle.
Automatic SmartKey recognition is only an aid and is not a substitute for your attentiveness.

Before locking, ensure that at least one
SmartKey belonging to the vehicle is outside the vehicle.To close the trunk lid: pull the trunk lid down-
wards using the handle recess and push it
closed.
Vehicles with trunk lid convenience closing
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped dur-
ing automatic closing of the trunk lid
Parts of the body could become trapped.
There may be people in the closing area.
Make sure that nobody is in the vicinity of the closing area.Use one of the following options to stop
the closing process:
= Press the - button on the Smart-
Key.
= Press or pull the remote operating
switch on the driver\bs door.
= Press the closing or locking button
on the trunk lid.= Pull the trunk lid handle.
Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS: it is also
possible to stop the closing process by making a
kicking movement below the rear bumper.
Pull the trunk lid handle. Release it as soon as
it begins to close.If the trunk lid is stopped in an intermediate position, push it downwards.
The trunk lid will continue to close.Push remote operating switch 1 until the
trunk lid is fully closed.Opening and closing73

Press closing button 1 on the trunk lid.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO
Press locking button 2 on the trunk lid.
If a SmartKey is detected outside the vehicle,
the trunk lid will close and the vehicle will be
locked.With the trunk lid completely open, press and hold the - button on the SmartKey. TheSmartKey must be in the vicinity of the vehi-
cle.
Vehicles with HANDS-FREE ACCESS
With the trunk lid completely open, make a kicking movement with your foot below the
bumper (  page 75).
Trunk lid automatic reversing function
The trunk lid is equipped with automatic blockage
detection with a reversing function. If an obstacle
obstructs the trunk lid during the automatic clos-
ing process, it will automatically open again. The
automatic reversing function is only an aid and is not a substitute for your attentiveness.
During the closing process, make sure that no
body parts are in the closing area.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped
despite reversing function
The reversing function will not react:
= to sos, light and thin objects, e.g. Nngers
= towards the end of the closing procedure
In these situations in particular, the reversing
function cannot prevent someone being trap-
ped.Ensure that no body parts are in the closing area.If someone is trapped, use one of the fol-
lowing options:
= Press the - button on the Smart-
Key.
= Press the remote operating switch on
the driver\bs door.
= Press the closing or locking button
on the trunk lid.

HANDS-FREE ACCESS function
With HANDS-FREE ACCESS, you can open, close
or stop the movement of the trunk lid by making a kicking motion under the rear bumper.
The kicking motion will trigger the opening or
closing process alternately.
Observe the notes when opening (  page 71)
and closing (  page 72) the trunk lid.
\bA warning tone will sound while the trunk lid is
opening or closing.&WARNING Risk of burns caused by a hot
exhaust system
The vehicle exhaust system can become very hot. If you use HANDS-FREE ACCESS, you
could burn yourself by touching the exhaust
system.
Always ensure that you only make a kick-
ing movement within the detection range
of the sensors.*NOTE Damage to the vehicle caused by
unintentionally opening the trunk lid
= When using an automatic car wash
= When using a high pressure cleaner
Deactivate the function of the SmartKey
in these situations.
or
Make sure that the SmartKey is at a min-
imum distance of 10 s (3 m) away from
the vehicle.When making the kicking motion, make sure that
you are standing Nrmly on the ground. You could
otherwise lose your balance, e.g. on ice.
Observe the following notes: = The key is behind the vehicle.
= Stand at least 12 in (30 cm) away from the
vehicle while performing the kicking motion.
= Do not come into contact with the bumper
while making the kicking motion.
= Do not carry out the kicking motion too slowly.
= The kicking motion must be towards the vehi-

If several consecutive kicking motions are not
successful, wait ten seconds.
System limits
The system may be impaired or may not function
in the following cases:
= The sensors are dirty, e.g. due to road salt or
snow.
= The kicking motion is made using a prosthetic
leg.
The trunk lid could be opened or closed uninten- tionally in the following situations:
= A person\bs arms or legs are moving in the sen-
sor detection range, e.g. when the person ispolishing the vehicle or picking up objects.
= Objects are moved or placed behind the vehi-
cle, e.g. the hose of a fuel dispenser, a charg-
ing cable or luggage.
= Clamping straps, tarpaulins or other coverings
are pulled over the bumper.
= A protective mat with a length reaching over
the trunk sill down into the detection range of
the sensors is used.= The protective mat is not secured correctly.
Deactivate the function of the key (  page 64) or
do not carry the key about your person in such situations.

Select Block Trunk Access .Create a PIN.ConNrm the PIN with OK.Enter the PIN again and conNrm it.
The trunk will remain locked if you unlock the

If the PIN is correct, separate trunk locking
will be switched oM and the PIN deleted.
Unlocking and opening the trunk from inside with
the emergency release

Side windows
Opening and closing the side windows
&WARNING Risk of entrapment when open-
ing a side window
When opening a side window, parts of the
body could be drawn in or become trapped
between the side window and window frame.
When opening, make sure that nobody is
touching the side window.If someone is trapped, release the but- ton immediately or pull it in order to
close the side window again.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
closing a side window
When closing a side window, body parts could
be trapped in the closing area in the process.
When closing, make sure that no body
parts are in the closing area.If someone is trapped, release the but- ton immediately or press the button in
order to reopen the side window.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
children operate the side windows
Children could become trapped if they operate
the side windows, particularly when unatten- ded.
Activate the child safety lock for the rear
passenger compartment side windows.Opening and closing77

When leaving the vehicle, always take theSmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.Never leave children unattended in thevehicle.
Requirements: = The power supply or the vehicle has been
switched on.
1Closing2Opening
The buttons on the driver\bs door take precedence.
To start automatic operation: press the b
button beyond the point of resistance or pull
and release it.To interrupt automatic operation: press or pull
the b button again.When the vehicle is switched oM, you can con-
tinue to operate the side windows.
This function is available for around four minutes or until a front door is opened.
Automatic reversing function of the side windows
If an obstacle impedes a side window during the closing process, the side window will open againautomatically. The automatic reversing function is
only an aid and is not a substitute for your atten- tiveness.During the closing process, make sure that no
body parts are in the closing area.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped
despite there being reversing protection
on the side window
The reversing function does not react:
= To sos, light and thin objects, e.g. Nngers.
= During resetting.
The reversing function cannot prevent some-
one from becoming trapped in these situa- tions.
