Storing
Set the seat, the steering wheel, the head-up
display and the outside mirror to the desired
position.Press the V memory button and then
release it.Press one of the preset position buttons 0062,
T or U within three seconds.
An acoustic signal sounds. The settings are
stored.To call up: press the preset position button
0062 , T or U .
The seat is moved to the stored position. Aser
releasing the button, the front seat, outside
mirror, head-up display and steering column continue to move into the stored position
automatically.%Driver's seat: to call up a stored position while
driving, you must press and hold the preset
position button.Stowage areas
Notes on loading the vehicle
&DANGER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the tail-
gate is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion.
Always switch oM the engine before
opening the tailgate.Never drive with the tailgate open.&WARNING Risk of injury from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured suPciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi- cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.

Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
gage or loads against slipping or tipping
over.&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open stowage spaces and mobile
phone brackets cannot always retain all
objects they contain.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of braking manoeuvres or abrupt
changes in direction.
Always stow objects so that they cannot
be thrown around in such situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from stowage spaces, luggage
nets or stowage nets.Close the lockable stowage spaces before starting a journey.Stow and secure objects that are heavy,
hard, pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or too
large in the load compartment.&WARNING Risk of accident from objects in
the driver's footwell and front-passenger
footwell
Objects in the driver's footwell and front-
passenger footwell may impede pedal travel or
block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardises the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver's
footwell or front-passenger footwell.Always Nt the Ooor mats securely and as
prescribed in order to ensure that there
is always suPcient clearance for the
pedals.Do not use loose Ooor mats and do not
lay multiple Ooor mats on top of one
another.
Vehicles with automatic front passenger airbag
shutoM objects trapped under the front
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front passenger airbag shutoM or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on the function of the automatic front passenger air-
bag shutoM ( page 44).
&WARNING !ä Risk of accident or injury
when using the cup holder while the vehi- cle is in motion
The cup holder cannot hold a container secure
while the vehicle is in motion.
If you use a cup holder while the vehicle is in
motion, the container may be Oung around
and liquids could be spilled. The vehicle occu-
pants may come into contact with the liquid
and if it is hot, they could be scalded. You
could be distracted from traPc conditions and
you may lose control of the vehicle.

Only use the cup holder when the vehicle
is stationary.Only use the cup holder for containers of
the right size.Always close the container, particularly if the liquid is hot.*NOTE Damage to the cup holder
When the rear armrest is folded back the cup
holder could become damaged.
Only fold the rear armrest back when thecup holder is closed.*NOTE Damage to the rear armrest due to
body weight
When folded out, the rear armrest can be
damaged by body weight.
Do not sit or support yourself on the rear
seat armrest.&WARNING Risk of injury due to an open
load compartment Ooor
If you drive with the load compartment Ooor
open, objects could be Oung around and hit
vehicle occupants as a result. There is a risk
of injury, particularly in the event of sudden
braking or a sudden change in direction.
Always close the load compartment Ooor
before a journey.*NOTE Damage to the stowage compart-
ment under the ashtray due to intense
heat
The stowage compartment under the ashtray is not heat resistant and could be damaged if
you rest a lit cigarette on it.
Make sure that the ashtray is fully
engaged.&WARNING !ä Risk of Nre and injury from the
hot cigarette lighter
You can burn yourself if you touch the hot
heating element or the socket of the cigarette
lighter.
In addition, Oammable materials may ignite if:
= you drop the hot cigarette lighter
= a child holds the hot cigarette lighter to
objects, for example
Always hold the cigarette lighter by the knob.Always make sure that the cigarette
lighter is out of reach of children.Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.&WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe
and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself.

Always be particularly careful around thetailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area.Allow vehicle parts to cool down before
touching them.
The driving characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within
the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= never exceed the permissible gross mass or
the permissible axle loads for the vehicle
(including occupants).
Information can be found on the vehicle identi- Ncation plate ( page 449).
= The load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
= When transporting objects in the load com-
partment, always install the load compartment
cover and partitioning net.
= Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
= Secure the load using the tie-down eyes and
distribute the load evenly.
Notes on driving with a roof load
= Evenly distribute the roof load, and place
heavy objects at the bottom. Also comply with
the notes on loading the vehicle
(  page 109).
= Drive attentively, and avoid suddenly pulling
away, braking and steering as well as rapid
cornering.
= When transporting roof loads and when the
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive programs  and A . These are

&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seats
When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of an accident because
the seat backrest is not engaged
The seat backrest may fold forwards.
There is a risk of the following, in particular:
= The vehicle occupant may be pressed
against the seat belt. The seat belt cannot
protect as intended and could cause addi-
tional injury.
= A child restraint system is no longer prop-
erly supported or properly positioned and
may no longer fulNl its function as inten-
ded.
= The seat backrest cannot restrain objects
or goods in the boot!ä or load compart-
ment.
Always ensure that the seat backrest is
engaged, especially:
= Aser you have adjusted the seat
= Aser the load compartment enlargement
has been folded forwardsMake sure that the red marking of the lock veriN-
cation indicator is no longer visible. Otherwise,
the seat backrest will not be locked.
Always ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sittingproperly. Particular attention must be paid to chil- dren.
Requirements:
= The rear seat backrest head restraints are fully
inserted.
= Vehicles with a folding rear armrest: the rear
armrest has been folded up.
Folding the rear outer seat backrests forward
mechanically
You can fold the centre and right seat backrests
forwards separately.
The les seat backrest can be folded forwards only
together with the centre seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.Ensure that the centre seat backrest is in an
upright position and engaged with the les seat
backrest (  page 117).Seats and stowing113

Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 into
marked position 2.Move the driver's or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Pull release lever 1.Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-
wards.
Folding the rear outer seat backrests forward
electrically
%Depending on the vehicle equipment, you can
fold the outer seat backrests forward electri-
cally.You can fold the centre and right seat backrests
forwards separately.
The les seat backrest can be folded forwards only
together with the centre seat backrest.
If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.Ensure that the centre seat backrest is in an
upright position and engaged with the les seat

Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 into
marked position 2.Vehicles without a memory function: move the
driver's or front passenger seat forwards, if
necessary.Vehicles with a memory function: if at least
one section of the rear seat backrest is folded
forwards, the corresponding front seat willmove forwards slightly, if necessary, to avoid a
collision.In the rear: pull release lever 1.In the load compartment: brieOy pull one of
buttons 1.
The corresponding seat backrest will fold for-
wards. The les seat backrest folds forward
together with the centre seat backrest.
If the les seat backrest is not engaged with
the centre seat backrest, this will be shown on
the multifunction display on the instrument cluster.Seats and stowing115

Folding the centre rear seat backrest forwards

If you no longer require the folded-down seat
backrest as a loading area, fold the backrest back into place.Press release catch 3.Fold seat backrest 2 forwards.qFolding back the rear seat backrest*NOTE Damage caused by trapping the
seat belt when folding back the seat back-
rest
The seat belt could become trapped and thus
be damaged when the seat backrest is folded
back.
Make sure that the seat belt is not trap-
ped when folding back the seat backrest.Move the driver's or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Swing seat backrest 1 back until it engages.
If the seat backrest is not engaged and locked
in place, red lock veriNcation indicator 2 will

qLocking and releasing the release catch of the
centre rear seat backrest
You can lock the release catch of the centre seat
backrest. The centre seat backrest can then be
folded forwards only together with the les seat
backrest.To lock or unlock: slide catch 1 upwards or

q Notes on the load compartment cover
&WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
poorly secured objects
The load compartment cover alone cannot
secure or restrain heavy objects, items of lug-
gage or heavy loads.
You could be hit by an unsecured load, partic-
ularly in the event of abrupt changes in direc-
tion, sudden braking or an accident.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Secure objects, luggage or loads against
slipping or tipping over, e.g. by using
lashing material, even if you are using
the load compartment cover.*NOTE Damage to the load compartment
cover when loading the vehicle
The load compartment cover may be damaged
when the vehicle is being loaded.
Do not place any objects above the
lower edge of the side windows or on the
load compartment cover.

Pull the load compartment cover back by grab
handle 1 and hook it into brackets 2 on the
les and right.
Vehicles with an automatic tailgate: the load com-
partment cover raises automatically when the tail- gate is opened and lowers again when the tailgate
is closed.
Retracting
Release the load compartment cover from brackets 2 on the les and right.Guide the load compartment cover forwards
using grab handle 1 until it is fully retracted.
qFitting/removing the load compartment cover
Requirements: = The load compartment cover is rolled up.
Removing the load compartment coverPress end cap 1 on the les and right
inwards.Take the load compartment cover out by pull- ing it upwards.Fitting the load compartment coverPress the end caps on the les and right
