ASSYST PLUS service interval display
Function of the ASSYST PLUS service interval dis-
play
The ASSYST PLUS service interval display on the driver display provides information on the remain-
ing time or distance before the next service due
date.
You can hide this service display using the back button on the les-hand side of the steering wheel.
Depending on how the vehicle is used, the
ASSYST PLUS service interval display may shorten
the service interval, e.g. in the following cases:
= mainly short-distance driving
= when the engine is osen les idling for long
periods
= in the event of frequent cold start phases
= vehicles with a diesel particulate Nlter in the
event of frequently interrupted regeneration of the diesel particulate Nlter
Mercedes-Benz recommends avoiding such oper-
ating conditions.
You can obtain information concerning the servic- ing of your vehicle from a qualiNed specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Displaying the service due date
Driver display:
4 Service
The next service due date is displayed.
To exit the display: press the back button on
the les-hand side of the steering wheel.
Bear in mind the following related topic:
= Operating the driver display ( page 263).
Information on regular maintenance work
*NOTE Premature wear through failure to
observe service due dates
Maintenance work which is not carried out at
the right time or incompletely can lead to
increased wear and damage to the vehicle.
Adhere to the prescribed service inter- vals.Always have the prescribed maintenance
work carried out at a qualiNed specialist
workshop.
Notes on special service requirements
The prescribed service interval is based on nor-
mal operation of the vehicle. Have the mainte-
nance work carried out more osen than prescri-
bed if operating conditions are diPcult or the
vehicle is subject to increased stress.
The ASSYST PLUS service interval display is only an aid. The driver of the vehicle bears responsibil-
ity as regards to whether maintenance work needs to be performed more osen than speciNed
based on the actual operating conditions and/or loads.
Examples of arduous operating conditions:
= Regular city driving with frequent intermediate
stops
= Mainly short-distance driving
314Maintenance and care

=Frequent operation in mountainous terrain or
on poor road surfaces
= When the engine is osen les idling for long
periods
= Operation in particularly dusty conditions
and/or if air-recirculation mode is frequently
used
In these or similar operating conditions, have the
interior air Nlter, air Nlter, engine oil and oil Nlter,
for example, changed more frequently. The tyres
must be checked more frequently if the vehicle is operated under increased loads. Further informa-
tion can be obtained at a qualiNed specialist work-
shop.
Battery disconnection periods
The ASSYST PLUS service interval display can cal- culate the service due date only when the batteryis connected.
Display the service due date on the driver dis-
play and note it down before disconnecting
the battery ( page 314).Engine compartment
Active bonnet (pedestrian protection)
qOperation of the active bonnet (pedestrian pro-
tection)
In certain accident situations, the actuation of the active bonnet reduces the risk of injury to pedes-
trians. The rear area of the bonnet is raised by
approximately 75 mm.
Aser being triggered, the active bonnet remains in
the raised position. Limited visibility due to the
raised bonnet cannot be ruled out.
Aser the active bonnet has been actuated, pedes-
trian protection may be limited.
Have the full functionality of the active bonnet
restored immediately in a qualiNed specialist
workshop.
If necessary, adjust your seat position and drive carefully to a qualiNed specialist workshop. If a
safe continued journey is not possible, contact a
qualiNed specialist workshop.
Opening and closing the bonnet&WARNING Risk of accident due to driving
with the bonnet unlocked
The bonnet may open and block your view.
Never release the bonnet when driving. Before every trip, ensure that the engine
bonnet is locked.&WARNING Risk of accident and injury
when opening and closing the bonnet
The bonnet may suddenly drop into the end
position.
There is a risk of injury for anyone in the
engine bonnet's range of movement.
Do not open or close the bonnet if there
is a person in the bonnet's range of
movement.Maintenance and care315

&WARNING Risk of burns when opening the
bonnet
If you open the bonnet when the engine has overheated or when there is a Nre in the
engine compartment, the following situations
may occur:
= You could come into contact with hot
gases.
= You could come into contact with other
hot, escaping operating Ouids.
Before opening the bonnet, allow the
engine to cool down.In the event of a Nre in the engine com-
partment, keep the bonnet closed and
call the Nre service.&WARNING Risk of injury due to moving
parts
Components in the engine compartment may
continue running or start up suddenly, even if
the ignition is switched oM.
Make sure of the following before performing
tasks in the engine compartment:Switch the ignition oM.Never reach into the danger zone sur-
rounding moving components, e.g. the
rotation area of the fan.Remove jewellery and watches.Keep items of clothing and hair away from moving parts.&WARNING Risk of injury from touching
components under voltage
The ignition system and the fuel injection sys- tem work under high voltage. You could
receive an electric shock.
Never touch components of the ignition
system or the fuel injection system when
the ignition is switched on.The live components include the following, for
example:
= ignition coils= fuel injectors
= electric lines to the ignition coils or the fuel
injectors&WARNING Risk of burns from hot compo-
nent parts in the engine compartment
Certain component parts in the engine com-
partment can be very hot, e.g. the engine, the
cooler and parts of the exhaust system.
Allow the engine to cool down and only
touch component parts described in the
following.&WARNING Risk of injury from using the
windscreen wipers while the engine bon-
net is open
When the engine bonnet is open, and the
windscreen wipers are set in motion, you can
be trapped by the wiper linkage.
