Getting started
Opening Key positions
Ignition lock
0 To remove the key (steering wheel
lock)
1 Power supply for some consumers,
such as the seat adjustment function
2 Ignition (power supply for all consum-
ers) and drive position

Theindicator and warning lamps in the
in st rument clu sterlight up when yousw itch on
th e ignition. They go out whe nthe engine is run-
ning. Th is indicat es that the systemsass ociate d
with these indicator and warning lamps are oper-
at ional.
You will find further information in the
"Controls in detail" section ( =page 78). With KEYLESS GO, your
vehicle checks the
KEYLESS GO key's validity when you pull
the door handle. If your key is valid, the
doors unlock and can be opened.
i TheKEYLESS GO key must be outsi dethe
ve hicle toallow you to open the doors.
6 Pull the door handle.
The turn signals flash briefly. The lock-
ing kn obs in the doors pop up.
6 Open the door and enter the vehicle.
i If you open a door, the windows on this side
lower slight ly. If you close the doors, the win-
dows close again.
Pressing the KEYLESS GO button onthe
selector lever corresponds to the different

The batteries in the key are working if
the battery check lamp lights up briefly.
i Youcould lock or unlock the vehicle acci-
dentally if you press the buttons on the key. Two
KEYLESS GO keys form part of your
ve hicle's optional equipment.
When you grasp the door handle, your vehi-
cle checks the key's validity. The following
are centrally unlocked if the KEYLESS GO
key isvalid and configured to the factory
setting ( =page 80):
! The doors
! The boot
! The fuel filler flap
! The glove compartment KEYLESS GO key*

Risk of accident Never leave
children unsupervised in the
vehicle. They could open a door from the
inside, even if it is lock ed, or start the vehi-
cle using a valid KEYLESS GO key left in the
vehicle or th eKEYLESS GO button on the
se lector lever and thereby endanger the m-
se lves and oth ers. Switc hoff the engine and
take the KEYLESS GO key with you, even if
yo u are only leaving the vehicle for a short

Driving systems Variable Speedtronic
The cruise control
lever is used to operate:
! cruise control or Distronic*
! variable Speedtronic
The cruise control lever is the uppermost
lever on the left of the steering column
( = page 192).
The LIM indicator lamp on the cruise con-
trol lever indicates which system you have
se lected:
! Cruise control, Distronic*:
LIM indicator lamp off
! Speedtronic:
LIM indicator lamp lit
When the engine isrunning, you can use
the cruise control lever to limi tthe vehi-
cle's speed to any speed:
! from 30 km /hupwards using cruise
control
! from 10 km /hupwards using
Distronic* 1
To store the current speed or a higher

6 Lower the bonnet and let it drop closed
from a height of about 20 cm.
You will hear the bonnet catch engag-
ing.
6 Check that the bonnet has engaged
properly.
If the bonnet can be raise dslightly, itis
not prope rly locked. Open itagain and
close it with a little more force.
The vehicle consumes a maximum of 0.8 l
of oil per 1,00 0km, depending on the driv-
ing style adopted. Oil consumption may
also be hi gher if:
! the vehicle isnew
! you often drive at high engine speeds
You will only be able to estimate the oil
consumption after you have driven a con-
siderable distance. i
Lubricant additives maynot be use dsince
th ey could damage the asse mblies. The useof

Me rcedes-Benz, will result in limitation of war-
ra nty right s.

When checking the oil level, the vehicle
must:
! be standing level
! be at normal operating tempe rature
! have been standing with the engine
switched off for at least five minutes
Ch eck the engine oil level using the ope rat-
ing syst em.
6 Turn the key to position 2in th eigni-
tion lock. The
standard display appears in the mul ti-
function display (= page 120).
6 Press the korj button on the
mu lti-function steering wheel repeat-
edly until the following message ap-
pears in the display:

! in the fuel injection system

The emission limit values may be exceeded
and the engine may be runn ing in emergency

Have the vehicle checked as soon as
possible at a qualified specia list wo rk-
shop, e.g. a Mercede s-Benz Service
Centre. The fuel tank has run dry. 6
Start the engine three to four times
after refuelling.
6 Emergency mode is cancelled. You
do not need to have your vehicle
check ed. \
The yellow roll-over bar warning
lamplights up or flickers when
the engine is sw itched on. The roll-o
ver bar release system is faulty. 6
Release the roll-over bars manually
and have them checked immediately
at a qual ified specialist workshop, e.g.
a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.

when tested. The KEYLESS GO key batteries are dis-
charged. 6
Change the batteries ( =page 355). The vehicle cannot be started using the
KEYLESS GO key and the selector lever
button. The KEYLESS GO key is in the vehi-
cle. A door is open. The key cannot be easily
detected. 6
Close the door and restart the engine. You did not depress the brake pedal
when
starting the engine. 6
Depress the brake pedal and press the
KEYLESS GO button on the selector le-
ver. There is strong interference from a radio
source. 6
Start your vehic lewith the KEYLESS GO
key in the ignition lock. You have lost the KEYLESS GO key. 6
Have the KEYLESS GO ke ycancelled at
a Mercedes-Benz Servic eCentre.
6 Report the loss immediately to the ve-
hicle insurers.
6 If necessary, have the manual locks

Jump-starting

Connect positive terminal 1to posi-
ti ve conta ct2 on your vehicle using
the jump lead. Start with the donor bat-
ter y.
6 Run the donor vehicle's engine at idling
speed.
6 Connect negative terminal 4of the
donor battery to negative contact 3of
your vehicle using the jump lead. Start
wi th the donor battery.
6 Start the engine.
6 You can now switch electrical consum-
ers back on. Do not under any circum-
stances switch on the lights. 6
First undo the jump leads from nega-
tive terminals 3and 4of the batter-
ies, and then from positi veterminals
1 and 2.
6 Have the battery checked at aqualified
specialist workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-
