Do not allowanything to protrude fromthe
sliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seals could
be damaged.
!The weather can change abruptly. It could
start to rain or snow. Make sure that the
sliding sunroof is closed when you leave the
vehicle. The vehicle electronicscan be
damaged if water enters the vehicle
interior.
iResonance noises can occur in addition
to the usualairflow noises when the sliding
sunroof is open. They are caused by minor
pressure fluctuations in the vehicle interior.
Change the position of the sliding sunroof
or openaside window slightly to reduce or
eliminate these noises.
Sliding sunroof reversing feature
The sliding sunroof is equipped with an
automatic reversing feature. Ifasolid object
blocks or restrictsthe sliding sunroof during
the closing process, the sliding sunroof opens
again automatically.However, the automatic
reversing feature is only an aid and does not
relieve you of the responsibility of paying
attention when closing the sliding sunroof.
GWARNING
The reversing feature does not react:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. small
fingers
Rover the last4mmofthe closing movement
Rduring resetting
Rwhen closing the sliding sunroof again
manually immediately after automatic
reversing
This means that the reversing feature cannot
prevent someone being trapped in these
situations. There isarisk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rrelease the switch immediately, or
Rduring automatic operation, push the
switch briefly in any direction
The closing process is stopped.

iIf you press theswitch beyond the
point of resistance, an automatic opening/
closing process is started in the
corresponding direction. You can stop
automatic operation by operating the
switch again.
iThe automatic opening and raising
feature is available only when the sliding
sunroof is closed.
The sun protection cover automatically opens
along with the sliding sunroof. You can open
or close the sun protection cover manually
when the sliding sunroof is raised or closed.
iYou can continue to operate the sliding
sunroof after switching off the engine or

removing the SmartKey from the ignition
lock. This function remains active for five
minutes or until you openafront door.
Resetting
!If the sliding sunroof still cannot be
opened or closed fullyafter resetting,
contactaqualified specialist workshop.
Reset the sliding sunroof if it does not move
smoothly.
XTurn the SmartKey to position2in the
ignitionlock.
XRaise the sliding sunroof fully at the rear
(Ypage 93).
XKeep theswitch pressed for another
second.
XMake sure that the sliding sunroof can be
fully opened and closed again (Ypage 93).
XIf this is not the case, repeat the steps
above again.

Adjusting therearseat headrestraint

GWARNING
If head restraints are not installedand
adjusted correctly, they cannot provide
protection as intended. Thereisanincreased
risk of injury in thehead and neckarea, e.g.
in theeventofanaccidentorwhen braking.
Always drivewith thehead restraints
installed. Before driving off,makesure for
everyvehicle occupant that thecenter of the
head restraintsupports theback of thehead
at about eye level.
!Makesure that therear window roller
sunblindhas been retractedbefore the rear
head restraintsare removed. You could
otherwise damage the roller sunblind.
XTo remove:pull the head restraint up to
the stop.
XPress release catchand pull the head
restraint out of the guides.
XTo re-install:insert the head restraint so
that the notches on the bar are on the left
when viewed in the direction of travel.
XPush the head restraint down until you hear
it engage in position.
Adjusting the multicontour seat
The multicontour seat function is only
available for vehicles in Canada.

Switchingtheseat heating on/off
Activating/deactivating
GWARNING
Repeatedly switching on the seat heatingcan
cause the seat cushionand backrestpads to
become veryhot.The health of persons with
limited temperature sensitivity oralimited
ability to react to excessively high
temperatures may be affected or they may
even suffer burn-like injuries. There isarisk
of injury.
Therefore, do not switch the seat heating on
repeatedly.
Driver's and front-passenger seat
The three red indicator lamps in the button
indicate the heating level you have selected.
The system automatically switches down
from level3to level2after approximately
eight minutes.
The system automatically switches down
from level2to level1after approximately ten
minutes.
The system automatically switches off
approximately 20 minutes after it is set to
level1.
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XTo switch on:press buttonrepeatedly
until the desired heating level is set.
XTo switch off:press buttonrepeatedly
until all the indicator lamps go out.
iIf the battery voltage is too low, the seat
heating may switch off.

until all the indicator lamps go out.
iIf the battery voltage is too low, the seat
ventilation may switch off.
iYou can open the side windows and the
sliding sunroof using the "Convenience
opening" feature (Ypage 89). The seat
ventilation of the driver's seat
automatically switches to the highest level.

Steering wheel heating

XTo switch on/off:turn the lever in the
direction of arrowor.

Vehicles without KEYLESS-GO: when you
remove the SmartKey from the ignition lock,
the steering wheel heating is deactivated.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: when you switch
off the ignition and open the driver's door, the
steering wheel heating is deactivated.
iThe steering wheel heating may switch off
temporarily if:
Rthe temperature in the vehicle interior is
above 86‡(30 †).
Rthe temperature of the steering wheel is
above 95‡(35 †).

Problems with the steering wheel heating

EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature
Important safety notes
GWARNING
When the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature adjusts
the steering wheel, you and other vehicle
occupants–particularly children–could
become trapped. There isarisk of injury.
While the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT feature is
making adjustments, make sure that no one
has any body parts in the sweep of the
steering wheel.
If somebody becomes trapped:
Rpress one of the memory function position
buttons, or
Rmove the switch for steering wheel
adjustmentinthe opposite direction to that
in which the steering wheel is moving.
The adjustment process is stopped.
GWARNING
If children activate the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT
feature, they can become trapped,
particularly when unattended. There isarisk
of injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. Never
leave children unsupervised in the vehicle.
GWARNING
If you drive off while the EASY-ENTRY/EXIT
feature is making adjustments, you could lose
control of the vehicle. There isarisk of an
accident.
Always wait until the adjustment process is
complete before driving off.
The EASY-ENTRY/EXITfeature makes getting
in and out of your vehicle easier.
You can activate and deactivate the EASY-
ENTRY/EXIT feature in the on-board
computer (Ypage 233).
Position of the steering wheel when the
EASY-ENTRY/EXIT featureisactive
The steeringwheel swings upwards when
you:
Rremove the SmartKey from the ignition lock
Rwith KEYLESS-GO:open the driver's door;
KEYLESS-GO must be in position1in the
ignition lock
Rwith the SmartKey:open the driver's
door; the SmartKey must be in position0
or1in the ignition lock (Ypage 147)
iThe steeringwheel only moves upwards if
it has not already reached the upper end
stop.

Position of the steering wheel for
driving
The steering wheel is moved to the last
selected position when:
Rthe driver's door is closed
Rwith KEYLESS-GO:you press the Start/
Stop button once on vehicles with
KEYLESS-GO
or
Rwith the SmartKey:you insert the
SmartKey into the ignition lock.
When you close the driver's door with the
ignition switched on, the steering wheel is
also automatically moved to the previously
set position.
The last position of the steering wheel is
stored when you switch off the ignition or
when you store the settingwith the memory
function (Ypage 112).
Crash-responsive EASY-EXIT feature
If the crash-responsiveEASY-EXITfeature is
triggeredinanaccident,the steeringcolumn
will moveupwards when the driver's door is
opened. This occurs irrespective of the
position of the SmartKey in the ignition lock.
This makes it easier to exit the vehicle and
rescue the occupants.
The crash-responsiveEASY-EXITfeature is
only operational if the EASY-EXIT/ENTRY
feature is activated in the on-board computer.

Adjusting theexterior mirrors
GWARNING
You could lose control of your vehicle if you
do the followingwhile driving:
Radjust the driver's seat,head restraint,
steeringwheel or mirrors
Rfasten the seat belt
There isarisk of an accident.
Adjust the driver's seat, head restraint,
steeringwheel and mirror and fasten your
seat belt before starting the engine.
GWARNING
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side reduces the size of the image. Visible
objects are actually closer than they appear.
This means that you could misjudge the
distancefrom road users travelingbehind,
e.g. when changinglane. There isarisk of an
accident.
For this reason, alwaysmake sure of the
actual distancefrom the road users traveling
behind by glancingover your shoulder.
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition (Ypage 147).
XPress buttonfor the left-hand exterior
mirror or buttonfor the right-hand
exterior mirror.
The indicator lamp in the corresponding
button lights up in red.

The indicator lamp goes out again after
some time. You can adjust the selected
mirror using adjustmentbutton$as long
as the indicator lamp is lit.
XPress adjustmentbutton$up, down,or
to theleft or right until you have adjusted
theexteriormirror to thecorrectposition.
You should haveagood overview of traffic
conditions.
The convex exteriormirrors providealarger
field of vision.
After the engine has been started, the
exterior mirrors are automatically heatedif
the rear window defroster is switched on and
the outside temperature is low. Heating takes
amaximum of 10 minutes.
iThe exterior mirrors can also be heated
manually by switching on the rear window
defroster.
Folding theexterior mirrorsinorout
electrically
XTurn the SmartKey to position1or2in the
ignition (Ypage 147).
XBriefly press button.
Bothexterior mirrors fold in or out.
iMake sure that the exterior mirrors are
always folded out fully while driving. They
could otherwise vibrate.
iIf you are drivingfaster than 30 mp/h
(47 km/h), you can no longer fold in the
exterior mirrors.
Setting theexterior mirrors
If the battery has been disconnected or
completely discharged, the exterior mirrors
must be reset.The exterior mirrors will
otherwise not fold in when you select the
"Fold in mirrors when locking" function in the
on-board computer (Ypage 233)
XTurn the SmartKey to position1in the
ignition lock (Ypage 147).
XBriefly press button.
Folding the exterior mirrors in or out
automatically
If the "Fold in mirrors when locking" function
is activated in the on-board computer
(Ypage 233):
Rthe exterior mirrors fold in automatically as
soon as you lock the vehicle from the
outside.
Rthe exterior mirrors fold out again
automatically as soon as you unlock the
vehicle and then open the driver's or front-
passenger door.
iIf the exterior mirrors have been folded in
manually,they do not fold out.
Exterior mirror pushed out of position
If an exterior mirror has been pushed out of
position, proceed as follows:
XVehicles without electrically folding
exterior mirrors:move the exterior mirror
into the correct position manually.
XVehicles with electrically folding
exterior mirrors:press and hold mirror-
folding buttonuntil you hearaclick and
then the mirrors engage in position
(Ypage 110).
The mirror housing is engaged again and
you can adjust the exterior mirrors as usual
(Ypage 109).

Automaticanti-glaremirrors
The rear-view mirror and theexteriormirror
on thedriver'sside automatically go intoanti-
glaremodeifthefollowingconditionsare met
simultaneously:
Rthe ignition is switched on and
Rincident light from headlamps strikes the
sensor in the rear-view mirror.
The mirrors do not go into anti-glare mode if
reverse gear is engaged or if the interior
lighting is switched on.

the front-passenger side.
XEngage reverse gear.
The exterior mirror on the front-passenger
side moves to the preset parking position.
XUse adjustmentbutton$to adjust the
exterior mirror toaposition that allows you
to see the rear wheel and the curb.
The parking position is stored.
iIf you shift the transmission to another
position, the exterior mirror on the front-
passenger side returnstothe driving
position.
