ve hicle path. The parking procedure can
th en be continued. If no new vehicle path is
av ailable, the transmission position will be
ch anged again. If theve hicle has not yet
re ached the parking space, the parking pro‐
cedure will be canceled, should a gear be
ch anged.

AT TENTION ASSIST
Fu nction of ATTENTION ASSIST
AT TENTION ASSIST assists you on long, mon oto‐
nous journe ys, e.g. on free ways and trunk roads.
If AT TENTION ASSIST de tects indicators of fati‐
gue or increasing lapses in concentration on the
part of the driver, it suggests taking a brea k.
AT TENTION ASSIST is only an aid. It cann ot
alw ays de tect fatigue or lapses in concentration
until too late. The sy stem is not a substitute for a
we ll-res ted and attentive driver. On long jour‐
ne ys,tak ere gular breaks in good time that allow
fo r ade quate recuperation.
Yo u can choose between two settings.
RStandard: normal sy stem sensitivity
RSensitive: higher system sensitivity. The
driver is warned earlier and the attention
le ve l de tected byATTENTION ASSIST is adap‐
te d accordingly.
If dr owsiness or inc reasing lapses in concentra‐
tion are de tected, the$77(17,21 $66,67 7DNH
D %UHDN warning appears in the Instrument Dis‐
pla y.Yo u can ackn owledge the message and
ta ke a break where necessar y.Ifyo u do not take
a break and ATTENTION ASSIST continues to
de tect increasing lapses in concentration, you
will be warned again af ter a minimum of
15 minutes.You can ha vethefo llowing status information for
AT TENTION ASSIST displa yed in the assis tance
menu of the on-board computer:
RThe length of the journey since the last
break.
RThe attention le vel de term ined byATTENTION
ASSIS T.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is unable tocalculate the
attention le vel and cannot issue a warning, the
6\VWHP 6XVSHQGHG messageappears.
If a warning is given in the Instrument Displa y,
th e multimedia sy stem of fers to sear chfor a rest
area. You can select a rest area and start naviga‐
tion tothis rest area. This function can be activa‐
te d and deactivated in the multimedia sy stem.
If AT TENTION ASSIST is deactivated, theé
symbol appears in the assis tance graphic in the
Instrument Display when the engine is running.
AT TENTION ASSIST is activated automatically
when the engine is re-sta rted. The last selected
sensitivity le velre mains stored.

AT TENTION ASSIST is active in the37 mph
(60 km/h) to124mp h(2 00 km/h) speed range.
The functionality of ATTENTION ASSIST is
re stricted, and warnings may be dela yed or not
occur at all in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo u ha vebeen driving for less than 30
minutes.
RIf th ero ad condition is poor (une venro ad
sur face or po tholes).
RIfth ere is a strong side wind.
RIfyo u adopt a sporty drivingst yle (high cor‐
nering speeds or high rates of acceleration).
RIfth eSt eering Assist function of Active Dis‐
ta nce Assist DISTRONIC is acti ve.
RIfth e time has been set incor rectly.
RIn acti vedriving situations, if youch ange
lanes and vary your speed frequentl y.
The ATTENTION ASSIST tiredness or alertness
assessment is dele ted and restar ted when con‐
tinuing the journey in thefo llowing situations:
RIf yo uswit choff the engine.
RIfyo u unfas tenyo ur seat belt and open the
driver's door (e.g. change drivers or take a
break).

Warning when the maximum permissible
speed is exceeded
The sy stem can warnyouif yo u unin tentional ly
exc eed the maximum permissible speed. Todo
th is, you can specify inthe multimedia sy stem
by how much the maximum permissible speed
can be exceeded before a warning is issued. You
can specify whe ther thewa rning is tobe just a
visual warning or an acoustic one as well.

which is stored in the digital map.
Traf fic Sign Assist is notavailable in all coun‐
tries. If it is una vailable, display 1is shown in

stem limitations
The sy stem may be impaired or may not function
in thefo llowing situations:
RIf th ere is poor visibility, e.g. due toinsuf fi‐
cient illumination of thero ad, if there are
highly variable shade conditions or in rain,
sno w,fog or spr ay.
RIfth ere is glare, e.g. from oncoming traf fic,
dire ct sunlight or reflections from other vehi‐
cles.
RIf th e windshield in the area of the multifunc‐
tion camera is dirty, or if the camera is fog‐
ge d up, damaged or co vered.
RIfth e tra ffic signs are hard todetect, e.g. due
to dirt or sno w,or because they are co vered
or because of insuf ficient lighting.
RIf th e information in the navigation sy stem's
digital map is incor rect or out-of-date .
RIfth e signs are ambiguous, e.g. traf fic signs
on construction sites or in adjacent lanes.

Blind Spot Assist uses two lateral,rear-facing
ra dar sensors tomonitor the area up to130ft
(40 m) behind your vehicle and 10ft(3 m)
directly next to yourvehicle.
If a vehicle is de tected at speeds ab ove appr ox‐
imately 8 mph (12 km/h) and this vehicle subse‐
qu ent lyenters the monitoring range di rectly next to yo
urvehicle, thewa rning lamp in the outside
mir ror lights up red.
If a vehicle is de tected close to yourvehicle in
th e lateral monitoring range and youswit chon
th e turn signal indicator in the cor responding
direction, a warning tone sounds once. The red
wa rning lamp in the outside mir rorflashes. If the
turn signal indica torre mains on, all other de tec‐
te dve hicles are indicated only bytheflashing of
th ere dwa rning lamp.
If yo uove rtake a vehicle quickl y,no warning is
given.
& WARNING Risk of accident despite Blind
Spot Assist
Blind Spot Assist does notreact tovehicles
approaching and overtaking you at a greatly
di fferent speed.
As a result, Blind Spot Assist cannot warn
drivers in this situation.
