Ac tive Stop-and-Go Assist helps you when in traf-
fi c jams on multi-lane roads with separate car ria-
ge wa ys by automatically pulling away within up to
60 seconds and with moderate steering manoeu-
vres. It orients itself using theve hicle in front and
lane markings. Active Stop-and-Go Assist auto-
matically maintains a safe distance from theve hi-
cle in front and vehicles cutting in.
Ac tive Stop-and-Go Assist requ ires you, as the
driver, tokeep your hands on the steering wheel
at all times so that you are able tointer vene at
any time tocor rect the course of theve hicle and
ke ep it in lane.
Obser vethe no tes on driving systems and your
re sponsibility; you may otherwise failto recognise
dangers (/ page 217). Ac
tive Stop-and-Go Assist activates automatically
when all of thefo llowing conditions are met:
R You are in a tra1c jam on a mo torw ay or high-
speed major road.
R Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is acti vated
and active (/ page 233).
R Active Steering Assist is activated and active
(/ page 240).
R You are tr avelling no faster than 60 km/h.
When Active Stop-and-Go Assist is active the

speed of 210 km/h. The system helps youto stay
in the centre of the lane bymeans of moderate 238

The driver is requ ired tokeep their hands on the
stee ring wheel at all times and be able tointer-
ve ne at any time tocor rect the course of theve hi-
cle and keep it in lane. The driver must expect a
ch ange from active topassive mode or vice versa
at any time. If
th e system de tects that the driver has not
steered theve hicle for a considerable period of
time or has remo vedth eir hands from the steering
wheel, an optical warning is given /rst. Display 1
appears in the driver's displa y.Ifth e driver still does not steer
theve hicle, or gives no con/rma-
tion tothe system, a warning tone sounds in addi-
tion tothe visual warning message.
If th e driver does not react tothis wa rning for a
considerable period, an emer gency stop is initi-
ated (/ page 241).
The warning is not issued or is stopped as soon as
th e system de tects that the driver has touched
th e steering wheel.
To uch de tection may be limited or inoperative in
th efo llowing situations:
R The driver is wearing glo ves.
R There is a steering wheel co ver on the steering
wheel.
If Ac tive Steering Assist de tects that a system
limit has been reached, a visual warning is issued
and a warning tone sounds.

R There is poor visibility, e.g. due tosno w,rain,

R There is glare, e.g. from oncoming tra1c,
di re ct sunlight or re0ections.
R Insu1cient road illumination.
R The windscreen is dirty, mis ted up, damaged
or co vered in the vicinity of the camera, e.g.
by a stic ker.
R No, or se veral, unclear lane markings are pres-
ent for one lane, or the markings change
qu ickl y,fore xamp le, in a construction area or
junctions.
R The lane markings are wornawa y,dark or co v-
ered up, e.g. bydirt or sno w.
R Ifth e distance totheve hicle in front is too
short and thus the lane markings cannot be
de tected.
R The road is na rrow and winding. R
There are obs tacles on the lane or projecting
out into the lane, suchas object mar kers.
R if transport equipment, fore xamp le a trailer or
bicycle rack , is attached tothe trailer hitch
and the electrical connection has been cor-
re ctly established
The system does not pr ovide assistance in thefo l-
lowing conditions:
R Onvery tight bends and when turning.
R When crossing junctions.
R Atroundabouts or toll stations.
R When actively changing lane without switching
on the turn signal indicator.

ble dis tance behind your vehicle.
R Active Lane Change Assist is selected in the

Ac tive Brake Assist can help youto minimise the
ri sk of a collision with vehicles, cyclists or pedes-
trians or toreduce the e.ects of such a collision.
If Ac tive Brake Assist has de tected a risk of colli-
sion, a warning tone sounds and theL dis-
ta nce warning lamp lights up. In
theAssistance menu, an insu1cient distance
1 totheve hicle in front is displ ayed in red. If you
fur ther reduce the distance, theve hicle in front is
also highlighted in red. When the system de tects a
ri sk of collision, redra dar waves2 appear in
front of theve hicle.

application.
If yo u apply the brake yourself in a critical situa-
tion or apply the brake during autonomous brak-
ing, situation-dependent braking assistance
occurs. The brake pressure increases up tomaxi-
mum full-s top braking if necessar y. If autonomous braking or situation-dependent

Ac tive Brake Assist is only an aid. The driver is
re sponsible for maintaining a su1ciently safe
distance totheve hicle in front, vehicle speed
and for braking in good time. #
Always pay careful attention tothe tra1c
situation; do not relyonActive Brake
Assist alone. #
