Operating the memory function
Storing
Set the desired position for all systems.BrieOy press memory button V and then
press preset position b, T or U
within three seconds.To call up: press and brieOy hold one of preset
position buttons b, T or U .
Aser releasing the button, all systems are
moved into the stored position.
Stowage areas
Notes on loading the vehicle
&DANGER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the tail-
gate is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion.
Always switch oM the engine before
opening the tailgate.Never drive with the tailgate open.
Objects in the deployment area of an air bag may prevent the air bag from functioning correctly.Observe the notes on protection provided by the
air bag .
&WARNING Risk of injury from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured suPciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi- cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
gage or loads against slipping or tipping
over.&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open storage spaces and mobile
phone receptacles cannot always retain all
objects within.

There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or abrupt changes in
direction.Always store objects such that they can-
not be thrown around in such situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from storage spaces, parcel
nets or storage nets.Close the lockable storage spaces before
starting a journey.Stow and secure objects that are heavy,
hard, pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or too
large in the cargo compartment.&WARNING Risk of accident from objects in
the driver\bs footwell and front-passenger
footwell
Objects in the driver\bs footwell and front-
passenger footwell may impede pedal travel or
block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardizes the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver\bs
footwell or front-passenger footwell.Always install the Ooor mats securely
and as prescribed in order to ensure that
there is always suPcient clearance for
the pedals.Do not use loose Ooor mats and do not
lay multiple Ooor mats on top of one
another.
Vehicles with automatic front-passenger air bag
shutoM: objects trapped under the front-
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front-passenger air bag shutoM or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on the function of the automatic front -passenger airbag shutoM ( page 43).

*NOTE Damage to the rear armrest due to
body weight
When folded out, the rear armrest can be
damaged by body weight.
Do not sit or support yourself on the rear
seat armrest.&WARNING Risk of injury due to an open
cargo compartment Ooor
If you drive with the cargo compartment Ooor
open, objects could be Oung around and hit
vehicle occupants as a result. There is a risk
of injury, particularly in the event of sudden
braking or a sudden change in direction.
Always close the cargo compartment Ooor before a journey.&WARNING Risk of burns due to hot audio
ampliNer
The audio ampliNer and the area around the
audio ampliNer in the stowage space under the
cargo compartment Ooor can get very hot.
If you touch these vehicle parts, you may suf-
fer burns.Always take special care when the cargo
compartment Ooor in the area around
the audio ampliNer is open.Allow the vehicle parts to cool down
before touching them.&WARNING Risk of Nre and injury from hot
cigarette lighter
You can suMer burns if you touch the hot heat-
ing element or the hot socket of the cigarette
lighter.
In addition, Oammable materials can catch Nre
if:
= you drop the hot cigarette lighter.
= children e.g. hold the hot cigarette lighter
to objects.
Always hold the cigarette lighter by the knob.Always make sure that the cigarette
lighter is out of the reach of children.Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.&WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe
and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself.
Always be particularly careful around the tailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area.Allow vehicle parts to cool down before

\bLeather is a natural product. It exhibits natural
surface properties such as diMerences in
structure, marks caused by growth and injury or subtle color diMerences. These surface
properties are characteristics of leather and not material faults. Leather is also subject toa natural aging process during which the sur-
face properties change.
The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= Do not exceed the permissible total mass or
the gross axle weight rating of the vehicle
(including load and occupants). The values are
speciNed on the vehicle identiNcation plate on
the vehicle\bs B-pillar.
= The load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
= Always use the partition net when transporting
objects in the cargo compartment.
= Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
= Secure the load using the cargo tie-down rings
and distribute the load evenly.
Notes on driving with a roof load = Distribute the roof load and the load inside the
vehicle evenly, placing heavy objects at the
bottom. Also comply with the notes on loading the vehicle.
= Drive attentively, and avoid abrupt starts, brak-
ing and steering as well as rapid cornering.
= When transporting roof loads and when the
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive programs  and A . These are

&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seats
When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
seat is not engaged
The seat does not engage when folded for-
wards. The seat can fold backwards unexpect-
edly, e.g. when accelerating, braking or in the
event of an abrupt change of direction or an accident.
People in the seat\bs sweep can become trap-
ped.
If a seat is folded forwards, always fold it
back before driving oM.Make sure that the seat is engaged.Always ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly. Particular attention must be paid to chil- dren.
If you no longer require the folded-down seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.
Requirements
= The area into which the seat is folded is clear.
= The area under the rear bench seat is clear.
= The armrest on the second row of seats is fol-
ded back and the cup holders are empty.
Trap the seat belt strap on seat belt 2 in seat
belt strap holder 1.
When the les-hand seat backrest is folded for-
wards, the center seat backrest will also be folded
forwards.

Move the driver\bs seat forwards.If necessary, release the head restraints for
the seat backrest and push them down as far as possible (  page 102).Les and right seat backrests: pull one of
release loops 1.
The seat backrest will automatically fold for-
wards.Center seat backrest: pull release loop 2.
The seat backrest will automatically fold for-
wards.\bWhen the seat backrests on the second and third rows of seats are folded forwards, youcan push the rear bench seat on the second
row of seats back. This will then provide a
continuous cargo compartment surface.Ensure that the area between the rows of
seats is clear.

When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of accident if the rear
bench seat, rear seat and seat backrest
are not engaged
The rear bench seat, rear seat and seat back-
rest may fold forwards, even when you are
driving.
= As a result, the vehicle occupant will be
pushed into the seat belt with increased
force. The seat belt will not be able to pro-

tect as intended and could cause addi-
tional injury.
= Objects or loads in the trunk or cargo
compartment will not be restrained by the seat backrest.Make sure that the rear bench seat, therear seat and the seat backrest are engaged before every trip.If the rear seat backrest is not engaged and
locked in place, the red lock veriNcation indicator
will be visible.*NOTE Damage caused by trapping the
seat belt when folding back the seat back- rest
The seat belt could become trapped and thus
damaged when the seat backrest is folded
back.
Make sure that the seat belt is not trap-
ped when folding back the seat backrest.If the les and center seat backrests have been fol-
ded forwards together, fold the les seat backrest
back Nrst.Move the driver\bs or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Swivel seat backrest 1 back until it engages.
The seat backrests lock automatically when
they are not in the folded down position.
The seat backrest will remain in the cargo position.Aser the seat backrest has been folded back,
check the position of the head restraint and
set it to the correct position (  page 102).qFolding the seat backrest on the third row of
seats forwards&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seats
When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of accident if the seat and
seat backrest are not engaged
The seat and seat backrest can fold forwards.
There is a risk of the following, in particular: = The vehicle occupant may be pressed
against the seat belt. The seat belt cannot
protect as intended and could cause addi- tional injury.
= A child restraint system will no longer be
properly supported or positioned and will
no longer fulNll its function as intended.

=The seat backrest will not be able restrain
objects or goods in the cargo compart-
ment.
Always ensure that the seat and seat backrest
are engaged, in particular:
= Before persons travel in the vehicle while
sitting on a seat with the easy entry and
exit feature
= Aser the seat has been adjusted.
= Aser the easy entry and exit feature has
been used
= Aser the cargo compartment enlargement
has been folded forwards&WARNING Risk of injury due to seat
backrests folded forwards
If the seat backrest of the rear seat is folded
forwards, persons in the third row of seats
may hit parts of the seat mechanism, espe-
cially in the event of an accident, braking
maneuver or abrupt change of direction.
If there is a person in the third row of
seats, the rear seat in front of them must
be folded back to the driving position
before the journey begins.Persons in the third row of seats should
not rest their legs on a seat backrest
that has been folded forwards.Always ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly. Particular attention must be paid to chil- dren.
You can fold the backrests of the second row of seats forwards to get in or out.&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped if the
seat is not engaged

backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.

Trap the seat belt strap on seat belt 2 in seat
belt strap holder 1.*NOTE Damage to the release loops due to
the attachment of objects
The release loops of the seat backrests in the
rear passenger compartment may be dam-
aged due to the attachment of objects.
Only attach objects to the tie-down eyes.
The release loops are located in the cargo com-
partment to the side of the bottom part of the
seat backrests.
Release loops on the rear sides
Move the second row of seats forwards and
move the seat backrests into the cargo posi-
tion (  page 118).Release the head restraints on the third row of
seats and push them down (  page 102).Pull one of red release loops 1.
The seat backrest will automatically fold for-
wards.Push the seat backrest down until it engages.\bWhen the seat backrests on the second and third rows of seats are folded forwards, youcan push the rear bench seat on the secondrow of seats back. This will then provide a
continuous cargo compartment surface.
Ensure that the area between the rows of
seats is clear.

(cargo position)
&WARNING Risk of an accident from the
rear bench seat and seat backrest not
being engaged
The rear bench seat and seat backrest can
fold forwards, even when the vehicle is in
motion.
= As a result, vehicle occupants will be
pressed more strongly against the seat
belt. The seat belt cannot protect as inten- ded and could cause additional injury.
= Objects or cargo in the trunk/cargo com-
partment cannot be restrained by the seat
backrest.
Before starting every journey, ensure
that the rear bench seat and seat backr-
