Functions of the Voice Control System
&WARNING Risk of distraction from infor-
mation systems and communications
equipment
If you operate information systems and com-
munication devices integrated in the vehicle when driving, you could be distracted from thetraPc situation. This could also cause you to
lose control of the vehicle.
Only operate this equipment when the
traPc situation permits.If you cannot be sure of this, stop the
vehicle whilst paying attention to road
and traPc conditions and operate the
equipment with the vehicle stationary.For your own safety, always observe the following points when operating mobile communicationsequipment and especially your voice control sys-
tem:
= Observe the legal requirements for the coun-
try in which you are driving.
= If you use the voice control system in an emer-
gency your voice can change and your tele- phone call, e.g. an emergency call, can
thereby be delayed.
= Familiarize yourself with the voice control sys-
tem functions before starting the journey.
With the Voice Control System, various applica- tions in the MBUX multimedia system are opera-
ble using voice input. The Voice Control System is operational approximately thirty seconds aser the
ignition is switched on and is available for the
driver\bs seat and front passenger seat.
The following multimedia system applications can be operated:
= Telephone
= Text messages
= Navigation=Address book
= Radio
= Media
= Vehicle functions

Overview of the MBUX Interior Assistant
&WARNING Risk of injury from the cam-
era\bs laser radiation
This product uses a classiNcation 1 laser sys-
tem. If the housing is opened or damaged,
laser radiation may damage your retina.
Do not open the housing.Always have maintenance work and
repairs carried out by a qualiNed special-
ist workshop.
This product complies with the requirements of
the FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 and 1040.11 with exception of the variations according to the FDA
Laser Notice No. 50 from 24. June 2007.
The camera is located in the overhead control panel.
If the vehicle is equipped with the MBUX Interior
Assistant, selected functions of the multimedia system can be operated contact-free. The MBUXInterior Assistant can diMerentiate between driver
and front passenger interactions and detects spe-
ciNc hand positions (poses).
System limits, display messages and notes for
rectiNcation
The system may be impaired or may not function in the following situations:
= The camera in the overhead control panel may
heat up due to operating conditions. As a
result the camera may switch oM temporarily,
particularly during longer periods of operation
and at high outside temperatures.
Do not touch or cover the camera and wait
until the camera has cooled down and is avail- able again.= The camera is covered, dirty, fogged up or
scratched.
Wait until the camera has cooled down before
cleaning the camera lens.
Clean the outside of the camera lens with a
dry or damp cotton cloth. Do not use micro-
Nber cloths. Do not remove the cover when
cleaning.
= Recognition can be impaired by reOective
clothing, an adverse color of clothing or by accessories, for example.
= Clothing being worn (hat, shawl, scarf) may be
limiting the detection area of the camera.
Keep the camera\bs Neld of vision clear.
= The camera is not operational.

Switching the reading light on and oMBrieOy move a hand up or down beneath the

The reading light is switched on or oM for the
driver or the front passenger.Switching the search light on and oMTo switch on: reach across the front
passenger seat with a hand.
The search light is switched on for the driver.To switch oM: take a hand back away from the
front passenger seat. The search light is switched oM again.
Information on proNles, themes, suggestions and
favorites
For electrically adjustable seats observe the fol- lowing notes.
&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped dur-
ing adjustment of the driver\bs seat aser
calling up a driver proNle
Selecting a user proNle may trigger an adjust-
ment of the driver\bs seat to the position saved
under the user proNle. You or other vehicle
occupants could be injured in the process.
Make sure that when the position of driv-
er\bs seat is being adjusted using the mul-
timedia system, no people or body parts
are in the seat\bs range of movement.
If there is a risk of someone becoming trap-
ped, immediately stop the adjustment process
by:
a) Pressing the warning message on the
media display.
or
b) Pressing a position button of the memory function or a seat adjustment
switch in the driver\bs door.

The driver\bs seat is equipped with an access pre-
venter.
If the driver\bs door is open, the driver\bs seat will
not be set aser calling up the driver\bs proNle.
ProNles store your vehicle settings and settings
for the multimedia system. If the vehicle is used by several drivers, the driver can select their own
proNle without changing the stored proNle settings
of other drivers.\bInformation on proNles from Mercedes me
connect can be found in the Digital Opera-
tor\bs Manual.
Vehicle settings are, for example, driver\bs seat,
steering wheel and mirror settings, climate control and ambient lighting. For the settings of the multi-media system, you can select, for example, radio
stations, previous destinations as well as themes,
suggestions and favorites.
For recurring driving situations, such as long
drives on the freeway, you can save your preferred settings in a theme in the vehicle. In a theme youcan save the display of the digital map, your pre-
ferred radio station and preferred drive program,
for example.
The vehicle can learn the habits of the driver. It then oMers suggestions for the most probable
navigation destinations, media sources, radio sta-
tions or contacts. The requirements for that are
the selection of a proNle, your consent to the
recording of data and suPcient collected data.
Favorites provide quick access to applications that are used osen. You can select favorites from
categories or add them directly to an application.

=Activation of the downloaded system update
by restarting the system\bIf automatic sosware updates are activated,
the system updates will be downloaded auto- matically.
The multimedia system provides a message when
a system update is available.
You have the following selection options: = Accept and Install
The system update will be downloaded in the
background.
= Information
Information about the pending system update
is displayed.
= Later
The system update can be downloaded man-
ually at a later time.
Deep system updates Deep system updates access vehicle or system settings and can therefore only be carried out
when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition is switched oM.
If the download of a deep system update is com-
plete and the downloaded system update is ready
for installation, you will be informed of this aser
the next ignition cycle, for example.\bPark the vehicle safely in a suitable location before starting the installation.
Requirements for the installation:
= The vehicle is switched oM.
= Notes and warnings have been read and
accepted.
= The electric parking brake has been applied.
If all requirements have been fulNlled, the down-
loaded system update is installed. The multimedia system cannot be operated while the downloaded
system update is being installed and vehicle func- tions are restricted.
If errors should occur during the installation, the multimedia system automatically attempts to
restore the previous version. If restoration of the
previous version is not possible, a symbol appears
on the media display. Consult a qualiNed special-
ist workshop to resolve the problem.
Setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot
Requirements: = To set up the Wi-Fi connection of the multime-
dia system with external hotspots: your vehicle
does not have a permanently installed com-
munication module.
= The device to be connected supports at least
one of the types of connection described.

The type of connection established depends on
the device to be connected. The function must be
supported by the multimedia system and by the
device to be connected. The type of connection
established must be selected on the multimedia
system and on the device to be connected.

Generating a new security key
Select Vehicle Hotspot .Select Generate Security Key .
A connection will be established with the
newly created security key.To save a security key: select Save.
When a new security key is saved, all existing
Wi-Fi connections are then disconnected. If the Wi-Fi connections are being re-estab-
lished, the new security key must be entered.
System language
q Notes on the system language
This function allows you to determine the lan- guage for the menu displays and the navigation
announcements. The selected language aMects
the characters available for entry. The navigation
announcements are not available in all languages.
If a language is not available, the navigation
announcements will be in English.
