Function of the charge level display on the instru-
ment display
When the vehicle is connected to the mains sup-
ply and is switched o"M, the instrument display
shows the charge level display for approximately two minutes.
Parking
Parking the vehicle

If the vehicle is not securely parked su"P-
ciently, it can roll away in an uncontrolled way
even at a slight downhill gradient.
On uphill or downhill gradients, turn the
front wheels so that the vehicle rolls
towards the curb if it starts moving.Apply the parking brake.Switch the transmission to position ].&WARNING Risk of "Nre caused by hot
exhaust system parts
Flammable materials such as leaves, grass or
twigs may ignite.
Park the vehicle so that no "Oammable
material can come into contact with hot

If you leave children unattended in the vehicle,
they could, in particular:
= open doors, thereby endangering other
persons or road users.

In addition, the children could also set the
vehicle in motion by, for example:
= releasing the parking brake.
= changing the gearbox position.
= starting the vehicle.
Never leave children unattended in the

Vehicles with AIRMATIC or E-ACTIVE BODY
CONTROL: The vehicle can lower because of
temperature di"Merences or longer non-opera-
tional times. This can cause damage to parts
of the body.
When stopping the vehicle and when driving o"M, make sure that there are no
obstacles such as curbs under or in the
immediate vicinity of the body.Bring the vehicle to a standstill by depressing
the brake pedal.On uphill or downhill gradients, turn the front
wheels so that the vehicle rolls towards the
curb if it starts moving.Apply the electric parking brake.Engage transmission position ] in a station-
ary vehicle with the brake pedal depressed
(  page 197).Switch o"M the vehicle by pressing button 1.Release the service brake slowly.Get out of the vehicle and lock it.\bWhen you park the vehicle, you can still oper-

Automatic vehicle shut-o"M when locking
Your vehicle is equipped with automatic engine
shut-o"M.
When you leave the vehicle ready to drive, the
vehicle will be turned o"M when locked under the
following conditions:
= The ignition is switched on or the engine is
running.

=Transmission position ] is engaged.
= The driver\bs door is closed.
= In addition, one of the following conditions
must be ful"Nlled:
- The vehicle is locked using the vehicle key.
- Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO: the vehicle is
locked via the locking button in the tail- gate.\bThe engine will continue to run if the vehicle isnot locked as described a"ser it has been le"s.
In this case, switch o"M the vehicle manually.
Automatic switch-o"M of the vehicle a"ser a certain
period of time (depending on equipment)
When the engine is running, the following display
message appears in the driver\bs display when
leaving the vehicle or a"ser a certain time stopped
in transmission position ] : Vehicle Ready to
Drive Shutdown Occurs When Locked or Auto-
matically in XX Mins
The vehicle is then automatically switched o"M
a"ser a total of 20 minutes of time stopped.
\bTo avoid automatic switch-o"M a"ser the time
has elapsed, con"Nrm the corresponding mes-
sage in the central display of the multimedia system.
In the following cases, the engine continues torun:
= if the vehicle is not locked as described a"ser
leaving it
= if the automatic switch-o"M is not displayed by
the display message
= if, once the time has elapsed, the automatic
switch-o"M has been deactivated via the corre-
sponding message in the central display
In this case, switch o"M the vehicle manually.
Garage door opener

qProgramming buttons for the garage door
opener
&DANGER Risk of death caused by exhaust
gases
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Inhaling
these exhaust gases is hazardous to health
and leads to poisoning.
Never leave the engine or, if present, the
auxiliary heating running in an enclosed
space without su"Pcient ventilation.&WARNING Risk of injury by becoming
trapped when opening and closing a garage door
When you operate or program a garage door
with an integrated garage door opener, per- sons can become trapped or struck by the
garage door if they stand within its range of movement.

Always make sure that nobody is withinthe range of the garage door\bs move-
ment.Only operate the following doors using the garage
door opener:
= Doors with a safety stop and reversing feature
= Doors which conform to the current U.S.
safety standards
Before programming the garage door opener, park
the vehicle outside the garage. Make sure that the vehicle is switched on but not started.
Requirements
= The vehicle has been parked outside the
garage or outside the range of movement of the door.
= The vehicle is switched on.
= The vehicle has not been started.
\bThe garage door opener function is always
available when the vehicle is switched on.Check if the transmitter frequency of the
remote control has the frequency range of
280 to 868 MHz.

= 4112A-MUAHL5 (Canada)Press and hold button 1, 2 or 3 that you
wish to program.
Indicator lamp 4 "Oashes yellow.\bIt can take up to 20 seconds before the indi-

Indicator lamp 4 continues to "Oash yellow.Point remote control 5 from a distance of
0.4 in (1 cm) to 3 in (8 cm) towards button
1 , 2 or 3.Press and hold button 6 of remote control
5 until one of the following signals appears:
= Indicator lamp 4 lights up green continu-
ously. Programming is complete.
= Indicator lamp 4 "Oashes green. Program-
ming was successful. Additionally, syn-
chronization of the rolling code with the
door system must be carried out.If indicator lamp 4 does not light up or "Oash

q Synchronizing the rolling code
Requirements
= The door system uses a rolling code.
= The vehicle must be within range of the garage
door or door drive.
= The vehicle as well as persons and objects are
located outside the range of movement of the door.
Press the program button on the door drive
unit.
Initiate the next step within approximately 30 seconds.Press previously programmed button 1, 2
or 3 repeatedly until the door closes.
When the door closes, programming is com-
pleted.\bPlease also read the operating instructions for
the door drive.
q Troubleshooting when programming the remote
controlCheck if the transmitter frequency of remote
control 5 is supported.Replace the batteries in remote control 5.Hold remote control 5 at various angles from
a distance of 0.4 in (1 cm) to 3 in (8 cm) front
of the inside rearview mirror. You should test
every position for at least 25 seconds before
trying another position.Hold remote control 5 at the same angles at
various distances in front of the inside rear
view mirror. You should test every position for
at least 25 seconds before trying another
position.On remote controls that transmit only for a
limited period, press button 6 on remote
control 5 again before transmission ends.Angle the antenna line of the garage door

pressed button again and keep it pressed until

Electric parking brake

\bTo prevent application: pull the handle of the
electric parking brake (  page 225).In the following situations, the electric parking
brake is also applied: = The HOLD function is keeping the vehicle sta-
tionary.
= Active Parking Assist is keeping the vehicle
stationary.
= Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is bringing
the vehicle to a standstill.
= In addition, one of the following conditions
must be ful"Nlled:
- The vehicle is switched o"M.
- The seat belt tongue is not inserted in the
seat belt buckle of the driver\bs seat and
the driver\bs door is opened.
- There is a system malfunction.
- The power supply is insu"Pcient.
- The vehicle is stationary for a lengthy
period.
When the electric parking brake is applied, the red M (USA) or

\bThe electric parking brake is not automatically
applied if the vehicle is switched o"M by the
ECO start/stop function.

q Function of the electric parking brake (releas-
ing automatically)
The electric parking brake is released when the
following conditions are ful"Nlled:
= The driver\bs door is closed.
= The vehicle has been started.
= The transmission is in position [ or ^ and
you depress the accelerator pedal or you shi"s
from transmission position ] to [ or ^
when on level ground.
= If the transmission is in position ^, the tail-
gate must be closed.
= The seat belt tongue is inserted into the seat
belt buckle of the driver\bs seat.
If the seat belt tongue is not inserted into the
seat belt buckle of the driver\bs seat, one of the following conditions must be ful"Nlled:
- You shi"s from transmission position ].
or
- You have previously driven at speeds
greater than 2 mph (3 km/h).

Information on collision detection on a parked
vehicle
If a collision is detected on the locked vehicle when the tow-away alarm is activated and colli-
sion detection is switched on, you will receive a
message in the multimedia system when the vehi-
cle is switched on.
You will receive information about the following points:
= The area of the vehicle that may have been
damaged.
= The force of the impact.
The following situation can lead to inadvertent
activation:
= The parked vehicle is moved, for example, in a
two-story garage.
\bDeactivate the tow-away alarm in order to
prevent inadvertent activation. If you deacti-
vate the tow-away alarm, collision detection
will also be deactivated.
You can permanently deactivate collision
detection via the multimedia system
(  page 226).\bIf the battery is severely discharged, the func-
tion for detecting a collision on a parked vehi-
cle is automatically deactivated to facilitate
the next engine start.
System limits
Detection may be restricted in the following situa- tions:
= the vehicle is damaged without impact, for
example, if an outside mirror is torn o"M or the
paint is damaged by a key
= an impact occurs at low speed
= the electric parking brake is not applied
\bYou are responsible for your vehicle. Convince
yourself that your vehicle is free of damage
and roadworthy.Setting collision detection on a parked vehicle

Activate or deactivate the function via Colli-
sion Notification .\bA maximum of three incidents can be regis-
tered. Up to 15 photos are taken for every incident. In the event of another incident, the
photos of the "Nrst incident will be overwritten
if they have not been deleted already.
Activating or deactivating the collision photos
function
Note possible legal restrictions in some countries
regarding automatic recording of the vehicle sur- roundings.
Activate or deactivate Collision Photos.
Transferring the collision photos with the
Mercedes me App

Scan the generated QR code on the media
display with the Mercedes me app.
The encrypted collision photos will then be
uploaded to Mercedes me.\bAny device that can scan QR codes can be
used to view the collision photos in the
Mercedes me App.
Copying the collision photos to a USB "Oash drive
Connect a USB "Oash drive .Select Manage Collision Photos .Select Copy (USByf .
All collision photos are copied to the USB
"Oash drive.\bTo ensure secure operation, only use with
FAT32 or exFAT formatted USB storage devi-
ces.
Deleting collision photos
Select Manage Collision Photos .Select Delete.
All collision photos will be deleted.Notes on parking the vehicle for an extended
period
If you leave the vehicle parked for longer than six
weeks, it may su"Mer damage through disuse.
The 12 V battery may also be impaired or dam-
aged by heavy discharging.

Standby mode (extension of the starter battery\bs
period out of use)

q Standby mode function
\bThis function is not available for all models.
If standby mode is activated, energy loss will be
minimized during extended periods of non-opera-
tion.
Standby mode is characterized by the following:
= The starter battery is preserved.
= The maximum non-operational time appears
on the central display.
= The connection to online services is interrup-
ted.
= The ATA (anti-the"s alarm system) is not availa-
ble.
= The interior protection and tow-away alarm
functions are not available.
= The function for detecting collisions for a
parked vehicle is not available.
If the following conditions are ful"Nlled, standby
mode can be activated or deactivated using the
multimedia system:
= The vehicle is switched on.
= The vehicle has not been started.
Exceeding the vehicle\bs displayed non-operational
time may cause inconvenience; i.e. it cannot be guaranteed that the starter battery will reliablystart the vehicle.
Charge the starter battery in the following situa- tions:
= The vehicle\bs non-operational time must be
extended.
= The state of charge of the starter battery is
insu"Pcient for standby mode.Driving and parking227

Driving and driving safety systems
Driving systems and your responsibility
Your vehicle is equipped with driving systems that
assist you in driving, parking and maneuvering thevehicle. The driving systems are only aids. Theyare not a substitute for you paying attention to
your surroundings and do not relieve you of your
responsibility pertaining to road tra"Pc law. The
driver is always responsible for maintaining a safe
distance to the vehicle in front, for vehicle speed, for braking in good time and for staying in lane.Pay attention to the tra"Pc conditions at all times
and intervene when necessary. Be aware of the limitations regarding the safe use of these sys-tems.
Driving systems can neither reduce the risk of an
accident if you fail to adapt your driving style nor
override the laws of physics. They cannot always take into account road, weather or tra"Pc condi-
tions.\bSome driving systems can regulate or limit the speed to a previously set value. Draw atten-tion to the stored speed when changing driv-
ers.
Information on vehicle sensors and cameras
Some driving and driving safety systems use cam- eras as well as radar or ultrasonic sensors to
monitor the area in front of, behind or next to the vehicle.
