preset position button or seat adjust-
ment switch immediately.&WARNING Danger of entrapment when
memory function is activated by children
When children activate the memory function, they can get trapped, especially if they are
unsupervised.
Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.When leaving the vehicle, always take the key with you and lock the vehicle.You can use the memory function when the igni-
tion is switched o"M.
Seat adjustments for up to three people can be
stored and called up using the memory function.
You can save settings for the following systems: = Front seat
= Outside mirrors
=Head-up display
= Steering column
= Seat contour
Operating the memory function
Storing
Set the desired position for all systems.Press memory button V and then press
preset position button b, T or U
within three seconds.
An acoustic signal sounds. The settings are
stored.To call up: press or brie"Oy hold preset position
button b, T or U .
A"ser releasing the button, all systems are
moved into the stored position.

Notes on loading the vehicle
&DANGER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the tail-
gate is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion.
Always switch o"M the engine before
opening the tailgate.Never drive with the tailgate open.Seats and stowing109

air bag .&WARNING Risk of injury from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured su"Pciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi- cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
gage or loads against slipping or tipping
over.&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open storage spaces and mobile
phone receptacles cannot always retain all
objects within.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or abrupt changes in
direction.
Always store objects such that they can-
not be thrown around in such situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from storage spaces, parcel
nets or storage nets.Close the lockable storage spaces before
starting a journey.Stow and secure objects that are heavy,
hard, pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or too
large in the cargo compartment.&WARNING Risk of accident from objects in
the driver\bs footwell and front-passenger
footwell
Objects in the driver\bs footwell and front-
passenger footwell may impede pedal travel or
block a depressed pedal.
This jeopardizes the operating and road safety
of the vehicle.
Stow all objects in the vehicle securely so that they cannot get into the driver\bs
footwell or front-passenger footwell.Always install the "Ooor mats securely
and as prescribed in order to ensure that
there is always su"Pcient clearance for
the pedals.Do not use loose "Ooor mats and do not
lay multiple "Ooor mats on top of one
another.
Vehicles with automatic front-passenger air bag
shuto"M: objects trapped under the front-
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front-passenger air bag shuto"M or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on

&WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe
and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself.
Always be particularly careful around the tailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area.Allow vehicle parts to cool down before
touching them.\bLeather is a natural product. It exhibits natural
surface properties such as di"Merences in
structure, marks caused by growth and injury or subtle color di"Merences. These surface
properties are characteristics of leather and not material faults. Leather is also subject toa natural aging process during which the sur-
face properties change.The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= Do not exceed the permissible total mass or
the gross axle weight rating of the vehicle
(including load and occupants). The values are
speci"Ned on the vehicle identi"Ncation plate on
the vehicle\bs B-pillar.
= The load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
= Always use the partition net when transporting
objects in the cargo compartment.
= Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
= Secure the load using the cargo tie-down rings
and distribute the load evenly.
Notes on driving with a roof load = Distribute the roof load and the load inside the
vehicle evenly, placing heavy objects at the
bottom. Also comply with the notes on loading the vehicle.= Drive attentively, and avoid abrupt starts, brak-
ing and steering as well as rapid cornering.
= When transporting roof loads and when the
vehicle is fully loaded or fully occupied, select
drive programs  and $ . These are

&WARNING Risk of becoming trapped when
adjusting the seats
When you adjust a seat, you may trap yourself
or a vehicle occupant.
When adjusting a seat, make sure that no one has any body parts in the sweep
of the seat.&WARNING Risk of accident if the seat and
seat backrest are not engaged
The seat and seat backrest can fold forwards.
There is a risk of the following, in particular: = The vehicle occupant may be pressed
against the seat belt. The seat belt cannot
protect as intended and could cause addi- tional injury.
= A child restraint system will no longer be
properly supported or positioned and will
no longer ful"Nll its function as intended.
= The seat backrest will not be able restrain
objects or goods in the cargo compart-
ment.
Always ensure that the seat and seat backrest
are engaged, in particular:
= Before persons travel in the vehicle while
sitting on a seat with the easy entry and exit feature
= A"ser the seat has been adjusted.
= A"ser the easy entry and exit feature has
been used
= A"ser the cargo compartment enlargement
has been folded forwardsAlways ensure that all vehicle occupants have
their seat belts fastened correctly and are sitting
properly. Particular attention must be paid to chil- dren.Seats and stowing113

If you no longer require the folded-down rear seat
backrest as a load area, fold the backrest back into place.
Make sure that the red marking of the lock veri"N-
cation indicator is no longer visible. Otherwise,
the seat backrest is not locked.
Folding the rear seats forwards mechanically*NOTE Damage to the headliner when the
rear seat backrests are folded forwards
and backwards
The headliner could be damaged when the
seat backrests are folded forwards and back-
wards.
Before you fold the seat backrests for-
wards and backwards, insert the head
restraints.Press the seat belt tongue of seat belt 1 into
marked position 2.Move the driver\bs or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.To fold the le"s and right seat backrests for-
wards: insert the head restraints for the seat
backrests (  page 101).Pull release lever 1.Fold the corresponding seat backrest for-

Fold the rear seat armrest back if necessary.To fold the center seat backrest forwards: press release catch 3.Fold seat backrest 2 forwards.
Observe the following recommendations:
= If you wish to fold only one of the outer seat
backrests forwards, it is recommended thatyou fold the right seat backrest forwards.
= If you wish to fold one of the outer seat backr-
ests forwards together with the center seat backrest, it is recommended that you fold thele"s and center seat backrests forwards.
q Folding the rear seat backrest back*NOTE Damage caused by trapping the
seat belt when the seat backrest is folded
back
The seat belt could become trapped and thus
damaged when the seat backrest is folded
back.
Ensure that the seat belt tongue has
been inserted at the side in the marked
position.*NOTE Damage to the headliner when the
rear seat backrests are folded forwards
and backwards
The headliner could be damaged when the
seat backrests are folded forwards and back-
wards.
Before you fold the seat backrests for-
wards and backwards, insert the head
restraints.
Folding back the rear seat mechanically
Move the driver\bs or front passenger seat for-
wards, if necessary.Swivel seat backrest 1 back until it engages.Make sure that the red marking of the lock
veri"Ncation indicator is no longer visible. Oth-
erwise, the seat backrest is not locked.Seats and stowing115

Collapsible cargo compartment cover

cover
&WARNING Risk of injury or death due to
poorly secured objects
The cargo compartment cover alone cannot
secure or restrain heavy objects, items of lug-
gage or heavy loads.
You could be hit by an unsecured load, partic- ularly in the event of abrupt changes in direc-
tion, sudden braking or an accident.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Secure objects, luggage or loads against
slipping or tipping over, e.g. by using tie
downs, even if you are using the cargo
compartment cover.*NOTE Damage to the collapsible cargo
compartment cover when the vehicle is
being loaded
When the vehicle is being loaded, the collapsi-
ble cargo compartment cover may be dam-
aged.
Do not place any objects above the
lower edge of the side windows or on the
collapsible cargo compartment cover.

arrow and place it on the edge.
Folding up the collapsible cargo compartment

tion of the arrow until it has completely folded

towards the rear by the bottom, folded-up sec-
tion and remove it in the direction of the arrow
from brackets 2 on the le"s and right.
Installing the collapsible cargo compartment
cover
Place collapsible cargo compartment cover
2 on edge 1.Place collapsible cargo compartment cover
2 into the brackets on the le"s and right 3
and push it forwards in the direction of the arrow.
The end caps of the collapsible cargo com-
partment cover will engage.

Overview of bag hooks
&WARNING Risk of injury when using bag
hooks with heavy objects
The bag hooks cannot restrain heavy objects
or items of luggage.
Objects or items of luggage may be "Oung
around and hit vehicle occupants.Only hang light objects on the bag hooks.Never hang hard, sharp-edged or fragile
objects on the bag hooks.
Observe the notes on loading the vehicle
(  page 109).
Subject the bag hooks to a maximum load of 6.6 lbs (3 kg) and do not attach any goods to them.
