2COLD LEVEL mark
The coolant level should reach the COLD
LEVEL mark2 in the reservoir.

Using a rag, turn the cap slowly approx-
imately one half turn to the left to re-
lease any excess pressure.

Continue turning the cap to the left and
remove it.

Add coolant as required.

Replace and tighten cap.
More information on coolant can be found
in the “Technical data” section
(
page 304).
Battery
The battery is located in the engine com-
partment.
The battery should always be sufficiently
charged in order to achieve its rated ser-
vice life. Refer to Service Booklet for bat-
tery maintenance intervals.
If you use your vehicle mostly for
short-distance trips, you will need to have
the battery charge checked more frequent-
ly.When replacing batteries, always use bat-
teries approved by Mercedes-Benz.
If you do not intend to operate your vehicle
for an extended period of time, consult an
authorized Mercedes-Benz Light Truck
Center about steps you need to observe.
iIf the engine is already at its regular op-
erating temperature, the coolant may
be approximately 0.6 in (1.5 cm) above
the COLD LEVEL mark.

Observe all safety instructions
and precautions when handling
automotive batteries.

Keep flames or sparks away
from battery. Do not smoke.

Battery acid is caustic. Do not
allow it to come into contact
with skin, eyes or clothing.
In case it does, immediately
flush affected area with clear
water and seek medical help if
necessary.

Mount the housing to remove oil and flush the

cooling/heating system

The housing may be used only for the

purpose of removing the oil, and must be

removed again after it has been rinsed.

Set the heater control to full power

Set the auxiliary heater to full power

Fill the cooling/heating system with a rinsing

solution


Rinsing solution consisting of 5% cleaning

agent and 95% water.

Warm up the engine to operating temperature

at moderate engine speed

While engine is running, hold operating

temperature at 80 °C for about 5 min.

Switch off engine and allow the cooling

system to

cool to about 50 °C

Drain the rinsing solution completely at the

drain plug of radiator (18)

Observe the environmental instructions of

the manufacturer of the cleaning agent.

Fill cooling system with fresh water

Pour fresh water into the coolant

expansion reservoir (1).

Warm up the engine to operating temperature

at moderate engine speed

While engine is running, hold the

operating temperature at 80 °C for about

5 min.

Drain the fresh water completely at the drain

plug of radiator (18)

Repeat the flushing process until all of the

rinsing solution has been removed.

Install in the reverse order
