Event Data Re corders
This ve hicle is equipped with an ev ent data
re corder (EDR). The main pu rp ose of an EDR is
to re cord, in cer ta in crash or near crash-like sit‐
uations, such as an air bag deployment or hitting
a ro ad obs ta cle, da ta th at will assist in under‐
st anding how a ve hicle's sy st ems per fo rm ed.
The EDR is designed to re cord da ta re lated to
ve hicle dynamics and saf et y sy st ems fo r a short
period of time, typically 30 seconds or less.
The EDR in th is ve hicle is designed to re cord
su ch data as:R
How va ri ous sy st ems in yo ur ve hicle we re
operating R
Whe th er or not th e driver and front
passenger seat belts we re buckled/fas te nedR
How fa r (if at all) th e driver wa s depressing
th e accelera to r and/or brake pedal andR
How fast th e ve hicle wa s tr av eling. This data can help pr ov ide a better under st and‐
ing of th e circums ta nces in which accidents and
inju ri es occur. NOTE: EDR data is re corded by
yo ur ve hicle only if a non-trivial crash situation
occurs; no data is re corded by th e EDR under
normal driving conditions and no personal data
(e.g. name, ge nde r, age and crash location) is
re corded. Ho we ve r, ot her parties, such as law
enforcement, could combine th e EDR data with
th e type of personally identifying data ro utinely
acquired during a crash in ve st igation.
Ac cess to th e ve hicle and/or th e ED R is needed
to re ad data th at is re corded by an EDR, and
special equipment is requ ired. In addition to th e
ve hicle manufacturer, ot her parties th at ha ve th e
special equipment, such as law enforcement,
can re ad th e information by accessing th e ve hi‐
cle or th e EDR.
EDR data may be used in civil and criminal mat‐
te rs as a to ol in accident re construction, acci‐
dent claims and ve hicle saf et y. Since th e Crash
Data Re trie va l (CDR) to ol th at is used to ex tract
da ta from th e EDR is commercially av ailable,
Mercedes-Benz US A, LLC ("MBUSA") ex pressly
disclaims any and all liability arising from th e ex traction of th is information by unauthorized
Mercedes-Benz personnel.
MBUSA will not share EDR data wit h ot hers with‐
out th e consent of th e ve hicle ow ner or, if th e
ve hicle is leased, without th e consent of th e les‐
see. Exceptions to th is re presentation include
re sponses to subpoenas by law enforcement; by
fe deral, st ate or local go ve rn ment; in connection
with or arising out of litigation in vo lvin g MBUSA
or its subsidia ri es and af fi liates; or, as re qu ired
by la w.
Wa rn ing: th e EDR is a component of th e
Re st ra int Sy st em Module. Ta mp ering with, alter‐
ing, modifying or re moving th e EDR component
may re sult in a malfunction of th e Re st ra in t Sys‐
te m Module and ot her sy st ems.
St ate la ws or re gulations re ga rd ing EDRs th at
con fl ict with fe deral re gulation are pre-em pte d.
This means th at in th e eve nt of su ch conflict, th e
fe deral re gulation go ve rn s. As of Fe bruary 20 13 ,
13 st ates ha ve enacted la ws re lating to EDRs.General no te s 29

Child re st ra int sy st emR
Child seat securing sy st em
The re st ra int sy st em can re duce th e ri sk of ve hi‐
cle occupants coming into contact with parts of
th e ve hicle interior in th e eve nt of an accident. In
th e ev ent of an accident, th e re st ra int sy st em
can also re duce th e fo rc es to which th e ve hicle
occupants are subjected.
A seat belt can only pr ov ide th e best le ve l of pro‐
te ction if it is wo rn cor re ctl y. Depending on th e
de te cted accident situation, Emergency Te nsion‐
ing Devices and/or air bags supplement th e pro‐
te ction of fe re d by a cor re ctly wo rn seat belt.
Emer ge ncy Te nsioning Devices and/or air bags
are not depl oy ed in eve ry accident. In order fo r th e re st ra int sy st em to pr ov ide th e
intended le ve l of pr ot ection, each ve hicle occu‐
pant must obser ve th e fo llowing information:R
Fa st en seat belts cor re ctl y.R
Sit in an almost up ri ght seat position with
th eir back against th e seat backrest.R
Sit with th eir fe et re st ing on th e fl oor, if pos‐

fo r Mercedes-Benz ve hicles.
Ho we ve r, no sy st em av ailable to day can com‐
ple te ly elimin ate in juries and fa ta lit
ies in eve ry
accident situation. In particular, th e seat belt
and air bag ge nerally do not pr ot ect against
objects penetrating th e ve hicle from th e outside.
It is also not possible to compl et ely ru le out th e
ri sk of injury caused by th e air bag deploying. Re duced re st ra int sy st em pr ot ection

Re st ra int sy st em functionality
When th e ignition is switched on, a sy st em self-
te st is per fo rm ed, during which th e u
re st ra int sy st em wa rn ing lamp lights up. It goes
out no later th an a fe w seconds af te r th e ve hicle
is st ar te d. The components of th e re st ra int sys‐
te m are th en functional.
Malfunctioning re st ra int sy st em
A malfunction has occur re d in th e re st ra int sys‐
te m if: R
The u re st ra int sy st em wa rn ing lamp
does not light up when th e ignition is
switched on. R
The u re st ra int sy st em wa rn ing lamp
lights up continuously or re peatedly during a
journe y. q
WA RNING Risk of inju ry or fa ta l injury
due to a malfunction in th e re st ra int sys‐
te m
If th e re st ra int sy st em is malfunctioning,
re st ra int sy st em components may be trig‐
ge re d unintentionally or might not be trig‐
ge re d at all in th e eve nt of an accident. This
may af fe ct th e Emer ge ncy Te nsioning Device
or airbag, fo r ex ample.
