Operating the rear seat
Rear seat settings for up to three people can be
stored and called up using the memory function in
the rear passenger compartment.
You can save the following settings for the rear
seat:
= Position of the seat, backrest and head
restraint
= Vehicles with active multicontour seats: the
seat side bolsters of the seat backrest as well
as the contour of the seat backrest in the lum- bar region
= Seat heating: distribution of the heated sec-
tions of the seat cushion and seat backrest

Front passenger seat adjustments and rear seat
adjustments for up to three people can be stored
and called up using the memory function in the rear passenger compartment.
You can save the following settings for the frontpassenger seat:
= Position of the seat, backrest and head

= Position of the seat, backrest and head
restraint= Vehicles with active multicontour seats: the

Stowage areas
Notes on loading the vehicle
&DANGER Risk of exhaust gas poisoning
Combustion engines emit poisonous exhaust
gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust
gases can enter the vehicle interior if the trunk
lid is open when the engine is running, espe-
cially if the vehicle is in motion.
Always switch o"M the engine before
opening the trunk lid.Never drive with the trunk lid open.
Vehicles with rear air bag: Also observe the notes
on the rear air bag .
&WARNING Risk of injury from unsecured
items in the vehicle
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured or
not secured su"Pciently, they could slip, tip
over or be thrown around and thereby hit vehi- cle occupants.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around.Before the journey, secure objects, lug-
gage or loads against slipping or tipping

&WARNING Risk of injury due to objects
being stowed incorrectly
If objects in the vehicle interior are stowed
incorrectly, they can slide or be thrown around
and hit vehicle occupants. In addition, cup
holders, open storage spaces and mobile
phone brackets cannot always retain all
objects they contain.
There is a risk of injury, particularly in the
event of sudden braking or a sudden change
in direction.
Always stow objects in such a way that
they cannot be thrown around in such
situations.Always make sure that objects do not
protrude from storage spaces, parcel
nets or storage nets.Close the lockable storage spaces before
starting a journey.Always stow and secure heavy, hard,
pointed, sharp-edged, fragile or bulky
objects in the trunk.Observe the notes on the cup holders.
Vehicles with automatic front-passenger air bag
shuto"M: Objects trapped under the front-
passenger seat may interfere with the function of
the automatic front-passenger air bag shuto"M or
damage the system. Please observe the notes on the function of the automatic front passenger airbag shuto"M ( page 52).*NOTE Damage to the rear armrest due to
body weight
When folded out, the rear armrest can be
damaged by body weight.
Do not sit or support yourself on the rear
seat armrest.&WARNING !

*NOTE Damage to the stowage compart-
ment under the ashtray due to intense
heat
The stowage compartment under the ashtray is not heat resistant and could be damaged if
you rest a lit cigarette on it.
Make sure that the ashtray is fully
engaged.&WARNING Risk of "Nre and injury from hot
cigarette lighter
You can su"Mer burns if you touch the hot heat-
ing element or the hot socket of the cigarette
lighter.
In addition, "Oammable materials can catch "Nre
if:
= you drop the hot cigarette lighter.
= children e.g. hold the hot cigarette lighter
to objects.
Always hold the cigarette lighter by the knob.Always make sure that the cigarette
lighter is out of the reach of children.Never leave children unattended in the vehicle.&WARNING Risk of burns from the tailpipe
and tailpipe trims
The exhaust tailpipe and tailpipe trims can
become very hot. If you come into contact
with these parts of the vehicle, you could burn
yourself.
Always be particularly careful around the tailpipe and the tailpipe trims and super-
vise children especially closely in this
area.Allow vehicle parts to cool down before
touching them.The handling characteristics of your vehicle are
dependent on the distribution of the load within
the vehicle. You should bear the following in mind
when loading the vehicle:
= Do not exceed the permissible total mass or
the gross axle weight rating of the vehicle
(including load and occupants). The values are
speci"Ned on the vehicle identi"Ncation plate on
the vehicle\bs B-pillar.
= The load must not protrude above the upper
edge of the seat backrests.
= Always place the load behind unoccupied
seats if possible.
= Secure the load using the parcel net hooks.
Distribute the load on the parcel net hooksevenly.
Notes on driving with a roof load = Distribute the roof load and the load inside the
vehicle evenly, placing heavy objects at the
bottom. Also comply with the notes on loading the vehicle (  page 142).
= Drive attentively, and avoid abrupt starts, brak-
ing and steering as well as rapid cornering.144Seats and stowing

Turn the emergency key a quarter turn clock-wise H (to lock) or counter-clockwise G (to
unlock).
q Folding the folding table out or in

Vehicle occupants may bump into the folding table and injure themselves.
Use the folding table only when the vehi-
cle is stationary.Stow the folding table before each jour-

When the rear air bag deploys objects on the
folding table may be thrown in the direction of
vehicle occupants.
When using the table, deactivate the rear

Open folding tables may be damaged when
the seats are moved back.
Make sure that the folding tables are fol-
ded in when moving the front seats

damaged when the folding tables are expan-
ded or collapsed.
Make sure that the folding tables are
expanded and collapsed properly.
Folding out
\bObserve the notes on the rear air bag.Opening the stowage compartment in center console 1 of the rear passenger compart-
ment.Pull folding table 2 up and forwards by han-
dle recess 3 and swing it outwards.Fold the table panels apart.\bThe table panels can be rotated forwards or
backwards to bring them into a comfortable
