DVD operation
Changing the aspect ratio
The system will automatically select the
appropriate aspect ratio when a DVD is
played back.
You can manually change the aspect ratio
during playback of the DVD. To do this, use
the top left soft key. The soft key changes
each time you press it.
Possible aspect ratios are: 4:3, 16:9 and
Zoom.
The soft key indicates the aspect ratio to
which you will change when you press the
soft key.
Zoom is useful to watch movies in
cinematic aspect ratio. You can use the
function to reduce the width of the black
bars at the top and bottom.In the Settings menu (page 83),
press the soft key repeatedly until the
desired aspect ratio is set.
Changing the DVD language
Changing the DVD language:
During playback of the DVD, activate
the DVD settings menu (
page 83)
Press the Lang. soft key.
The language list is displayed. The con-
tent of the list depends on which langu-
ages the DVD supports.
Use g or G to select a language.
Press E.
The selected language is set.

You can only change the DVD language
if the DVD supports several languages.

The Lang. soft key has no function if
the Settings menu is activated from
within the DVD menu.
In this case, you need to change the
language in the DVD menu (
page 82)
if the menu item is available. Or remove
the DVD menu (
page 83) and again
press the
Lang. soft key in the
Settings menu.
Some DVDs allow the language to be
selected additionally or exclusively in
the DVD menu saved on the DVD
(
page 82).

Displaying and swit
ching between sub-
titles
During playback of the DVD, activate
the DVD settings menu (
page 83).
Press the Subtitle soft key.
The subtitles list will appear. The
content of the list depends on the DVD.
Use g or G to select a subtitle.
Press E.
The selected subtitles are used.

Use g to select list entry
No subtitles.
Press E.
Subtitling is switched off.

The system cannot read languages in
DTS format. If you se lect such a langu-
age, the movie is played without sound.

These functions are available only if the
DVD supports subtitles.

When you insert a DVD, subtitles are by
default switched off.

The Subtitle soft key has no function
if the Settings menu is opened from
within the DVD menu. In this case, you
need to change the subtitles in the
DVD menu (
page 82) if the menu
item is available.
Or remove the DVD menu (
page 83)
and again press the
Subtitles soft
key in the Settings menu.
Some DVDs allow the subtitling func-
tion to be selected additionally or ex-
clusively in the DVD menu saved on the
DVD (
page 82).

Changing the camera view
During playback of the DVD, activate
the DVD settings menu (
page 83)
Press the Angle soft key.
A list of the available camera views will
appear.
Use g or G to select the desired
camera view.
Press E.
The selected camera view is used.
Display the soft keys (page 79).
Press the Brightn., Contr. or
Color soft key.
Press h or H .
The respective setting is changed.
If several movies are on the DVD, you can
select a movie directly.
Movies can be selected while the DVD is
played back or stopped.
E.g.: Select movie no. 3
Press 3.
The 3rd movie starts after a short
while.

You can only change the camera view if
several camera views are stored on the
DVD. The number of available
camera views depends on the DVD.

The Angle soft key cannot be selected
if the Settings menu is activated from
within the DVD menu (
page 82).
In this case, select the camera view in
the DVD menu.
Some DVDs supporting different
camera views don’t offer a switch
option. In this case, select the camera
view in the Settings menu.
Adjusting brightne ss, contrast and
color

In order to avoid driver distraction, the
video function is disabled and no
images will be shown on the COMAND
screen. Therefore the following soft
keys will have no visible effect.
Selecting a movie

the DVD menu saved on the DVD

Weather channel. You cannot select any
other station.
Press the SIRIUS soft key to display the
Service information display.

The stations in the selected category can
be scanned in numerical order for 8 se-
conds each.
In the Satellite radio main menu, press
the
Scan soft key.
The scan function will begin.
Scan will
appear in black lettering. Ending scan function and playing a
station
Press the Scan soft key again.
The station selected will appear with
the station name.
Scan will appear in
white lettering again.
Station selection vi a direct channel

Press *.
Input line will appear.
Enter the number of the channel you
wish to select, e.g. 55.
The channel you have selected will be-
gin to play. The corresponding station
name will appear, if station is available.

If the selected channel is not subscri-
bed, the system displays

In the Satellite radio main menu
Press one of the number keys, e.g.

longer than 2 seconds.
You will hear a confirmation beep if the
beep tones option was activated in the
system settings (
page 217).
The satellite radio saves the current
station at the memory preset selected.
The memory preset selected will ap-
pear in the status line, e.g.
SAT2. On the memory list
In the Satellite radio main menu, press
the
Presets soft key.
The SAT preset memory will appear.
Use G or g to select a memory pre-
set.
Press E longer than 2 seconds.
You will hear a confirmation beep if the
beep tones option was activated in the
system settings (
page 217).
The satellite radio saves the current
station at the memory preset selected.
You will see the Satellite radio main menu
automatically after 8 seconds
if you press s.

An existing entry is overwritten in the

Telephone*
Important notes
Please read the chapter “Telephone”
first before attempting to operate your
telephone.
Please also read the important notes in
the telephone and Voice control sys-
tem* operating manuals.
Always drive with extreme caution
when you operate the telephone
hands-free.
For safety reasons, you should not use
the mobile telephone handset to make
a call while driving the vehicle.
If the signal strength is very weak (dis-
play in the symbol bar of all menus):
Wait until reception improves before
making a call.
Close the windows and reduce all out-
side noise as much as possible when
you use hands-free operation.

If you have a Mercedes-Benz specified
integrated mobile telephone (TDMA/
CDMA or GSM) and the telephone is
inserted in the cradle, the telephone
functions can be used as follows:
at the COMAND
at the multifunction steering wheel
with the Voice control system*
This instruction manual describes the
operation at the COMAND. Unless
otherwise indicated, the descriptions
and illustrations refer to the COMAND.
Operation at the mobile phone and
operation with the Voice control
system* are described in separate
operating guides. Refer to the vehicle
Operator’s Manual for operation of the
telephone using the multifunction
steering wheel.
Which soft key functions are available
depends on the mobile phone variant.
i
In certain menus, the COMAND can
display date and time of the calls.
The COMAND can display phone
number and name of the other party
(e.g. if the COMAND detects an
incoming call, but also in other menus).
For the number to be displayed, the
number information must be
transmitted with the incoming call. The
same goes for the name display which
additionally requires that the caller’s
number and name are saved in the
phone book.

No ring or DTMF tones will be heard
when a phone set to silent mode is in-
serted into the cradle.
For ringtone settings, refer to the sepa-
rate operating instructions for the
mobile phone.

Initiating an emergency call
Telephone is locked
Press the 911 soft key.
The system opens an inquiry menu
prompting if you want to dial a “911”
call.
The selection marker in the inquiry
menu should be on
Yes.
If necessary, press H to select
Yes.
Press E to confirm Yes if you want to
place the “911” emergency call.
The emergency call will be placed.
Wait until the emergency rescue
station answers and describe the
emergency.
If you do not want to place the emergency
call:
Press h to select No when the
inquiry menu appears.
Press E to confirm No.
Telephone is ready for operation
Press a repeatedly until the
telephone menu is displayed.
Press 9, 1 and 1 one after the
other.
Press E or press the Send soft key.
The emergency call will be placed.
Wait until the emergency rescue
station answers and describe the
emergency.

Ending the emergency call:
Depending on the cellular network, it
may be necessary to press the K
button on the mobile phone.
