Checking the battery

Never leave children or animals unattended
in the vehicle.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle. This
also applies for the Digital Vehicle Key if the
"Digital Vehicle Key" function is activated via
Mercedes me connect.
Unlocking and opening doors from
the inside
!The side windows will not open/close ifthe battery is discharged or if the side win-dows have iced up. It will then not be possi-ble to close the door. Do not attempt toforce the door closed. You could otherwisedamage the door or the side window.
You can open a door from inside the vehicleeven if it has been locked.
If the vehicle has previously been locked fromthe outside, opening a door from the insidewill trigger the anti-theft alarm system. Switchoff the alarm (Ypage 64).
XPull door handleD.If the door is locked, locking knobCpopsup. The door is unlocked and can beopened.
When a door is opened, the side window onthat side opens slightly. When the door isclosed, the side window closes again.
Centrally locking and unlocking the
vehicle from the inside
You can centrally lock or unlock the vehiclefrom the inside. For example, you can unlock
the front-passenger door from the inside orlock the vehicle before you pull away.
XTo unlock:press buttonC.
XTo lock:press buttonD.If the front-passenger door is closed, thevehicle locks.
The central locking button does not lock orunlock the fuel filler flap or the stowage com-partment in the center console.
You cannot unlock the vehicle centrally fromthe inside if the vehicle has been locked withthe SmartKey or KEYLESS-GO.
You can open a door from inside the vehicleeven if it has been locked.
If a locked door is opened from the inside, theprevious unlock status of the vehicle will betaken into consideration if:
Rthe vehicle was locked using the lockingbutton for the central locking, or
Rif the vehicle was locked automatically
The vehicle will be fully unlocked if it had pre-viously been fully unlocked. If only the driver'sdoor had been previously unlocked, only thedoor which has been opened from the inside isunlocked.

Automatic locking feature
XTo deactivate:press and hold buttonCforabout five seconds until a tone sounds.
XTo activate:press and hold buttonDforabout five seconds until a tone sounds.
If you press one of the two buttons and do nothear a tone, the relevant setting has alreadybeen selected.
The vehicle is locked automatically when theignition is switched on and the wheels areturning.
You could therefore lock yourself out if:
Rthe vehicle is being pushed.
Rthe vehicle is being towed.
Rthe vehicle is on a roller dynamometer.
You can also switch the automatic lockingfunction on and off using the on-board com-puter (Ypage 178).
Unlocking/locking the driver's door
using the mechanical key
iIf you want to centrally lock the vehicleusing the mechanical key, begin by pressingthe locking button for the interior lockingmechanism while the driver's door is open.Then lock the driver's door using themechanical key.
XTo unlock:turn the mechanical key coun-ter-clockwise as far as it will go to positionG.
XTo lock:turn the mechanical key clockwiseas far as it will go to positionG.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock andopen the driver's door, the anti-theft alarmsystem will be triggered. Switch off the alarm(Ypage 64).
Trunk
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If objects, luggage or loads are not secured
or not secured sufficiently, they could slip,
tip over or be flung around and thereby hit
vehicle occupants. There is a risk of injury,
particularly in the event of sudden braking
or a sudden change in direction.
Always store objects so that they cannot be
flung around. Secure objects, luggage or
loads against slipping or tipping before the
journey.
!The trunk lid swings upwards whenopened. Therefore, make sure that there issufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
!Only close the trunk once the roof is low-ered completely. Otherwise, you could dam-age the roof.
If you close the trunk lid before the roof islowered completely, the loading aid switchlights up and a warning tone sounds.

The opening dimensions of the trunk lid can befound in the "Vehicle data" section(Ypage 303).
Do not leave the SmartKey in the trunk. Youcould otherwise lock yourself out.
The trunk lid can be:
Ropened/closed from outside
Ropened automatically from outside
Rlocked separately
Ropened with the emergency release button
Runlocked with the mechanical key
You should preferably place luggage or loadsin the trunk.
Opening/closing from outside
Opening
XPress the6button on the SmartKey.
XPull handleC.
XLift the trunk lid.
Closing
XPull the trunk lid down using recessC.
XLock the vehicle if necessary with the7button on the SmartKey or with KEYLESS-GO.
It does not lock if a SmartKey with KEYLESS-GO is detected in the trunk.
Locking the trunk separately
You can lock the trunk separately. If you thenunlock the vehicle centrally, the trunk remainslocked and cannot be opened.
XClose the trunk lid.
XTake the mechanical key out of the Smart-Key (Ypage 68).
XInsert the mechanical key into the trunk lidlock as far as it will go.
XTurn the mechanical key clockwise frompositionGto positionH.
XRemove the mechanical key.
XInsert the mechanical key into the Smart-Key.
Unlocking the trunk (mechanical
key)
!The trunk lid swings upwards whenopened. Therefore, make sure that there issufficient clearance above the trunk lid.
If the trunk cannot be unlocked with theSmartKey or KEYLESS-GO, use the mechanicalkey.
If you use the mechanical key to unlock andopen the trunk lid, the anti-theft alarm systemwill be triggered. Switch off the alarm(Ypage 64).

Emergency release for the trunk
You can unlock the trunk lid from the insidewith the emergency release button.
XPress emergency release buttonCbriefly.The trunk lid unlocks and opens.
The trunk lid can be unlocked and opened withthe trunk lid emergency release when the vehi-cle is stationary or while driving.
The trunk lid emergency release does notunlock the trunk lid if the battery is disconnec-ted or discharged.
Trunk lid emergency release light:
REmergency release buttonCflashes for30 minutes after the trunk lid is opened
REmergency release buttonCflashes for60 minutes after the trunk lid is closed
Side windows
Important safety notes
GWARNING
While opening the side windows, body parts
could become trapped between the side
window and the door frame as the side win-
dow moves. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that nobody touches the side
window during the opening procedure. If
somebody becomes trapped, release the
switch or pull the switch to close the side
window again.
GWARNING
While closing the side windows, body parts
in the closing area could become trapped.
There is a risk of injury.
When closing make sure that no parts of the
body are in the closing area. If somebody
becomes trapped, release the switch or
press the switch to open the side window
again.
GWARNING
If children operate the side windows they
could become trapped, particularly if they
are left unsupervised. There is a risk of
injury.
When leaving the vehicle, always take the
SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
Never leave children unsupervised in the
vehicle.
Side window reversing feature
The front side windows are equipped with anautomatic reversing feature. If a solid objectblocks or restricts the upward movement of

one of the front side windows during the clos-ing process, the side window opens againautomatically. During the manual closing proc-ess, the side window only opens again auto-matically after the corresponding switch isreleased. However, the automatic reversingfeature is only an aid and does not relieve youof the responsibility of paying attention whenclosing a side window.
GWARNING
The reversing feature does not respond:
Rto soft, light and thin objects, e.g. fingers
Rover the last 1/6 in (4 mm) of the closing
movement
Rwhile adjusting
Rwhen closing the side window again man-
ually immediately after automatic revers-
ing
This means that the reversing feature can-
not prevent someone being trapped in these
situations. There is a risk of injury.
Make sure that no body parts are in close
proximity during the closing procedure. If
someone becomes trapped, press the
switch to open the side window again.
Opening and closing the side win-
dows in the front
The switches for the front side windows arelocated on the driver's door. There is also aswitch for the front-passenger side window onthe front-passenger door.
The switches on the driver's door take prece-dence.

You can continue to operate the side windowsafter you switch off the engine. This function isavailable for up to five minutes or until thedriver's or front-passenger door is opened.

You can use the switch on the center consoleto close all side windows simultaneously.
XOpen the cover in the lower center console.The switch for all side windows is under thecover.
XTo open all side windows:press buttonCto the point of resistance.
XTo open all side windows fully:pressswitchCbeyond the point of resistance.
XTo close all side windows:pull switchC.All side windows begin the closing proce-dure simultaneously. The rear side windowsclose after the front side windows.
If, after opening the windows, you close oneside window using the switch in the door con-trol panel:
Rthe front side window closes first and
Rthen the corresponding rear side windowcloses.
Convenience closing with KEYLESS-GO
GWARNING
When using the convenience closing feature,
parts of the body could be trapped in the
closing area when a side window is being
closed. There is a risk of injury.
Observe the complete closing procedure
when the convenience closing feature is
operating. Make sure that no body parts are
in close proximity during the closing proce-
dure.
Proceed as follows if someone is trapped:
XRelease the recessed sensor surface on thedoor handle.
XImmediately pull and hold the door handleand keep the door handle pulled.The side windows open.
With KEYLESS-GO you can close all side win-dows simultaneously. The KEYLESS-GO keymust be outside the vehicle. All the doorsmust be closed.
XTouch recessed sensor surfaceCon thedoor handle until the side windows are fullyclosed.
iMake sure you only touch recessed sensorsurfaceC.
XTo interrupt convenience closing:releaserecessed sensor surfaceCon the doorhandle.
Resetting the side windows
If a side window can no longer be closed fully,you must reset it.
XClose all the doors.
XTurn the SmartKey to positionGorHinthe ignition lock.
XPull the corresponding switch on the doorcontrol panel until the side window is com-pletely closed (Ypage 76).
XHold the switch for an additional second.
If the side window opens again slightly:
XImmediately pull the corresponding switchon the door control panel until the side win-dow is completely closed (Ypage 76).
XHold the switch for an additional second.If the respective side window remainsclosed after the button is released, then it

has been set correctly. If this is not thecase, repeat the steps above.
Problems with the side windows
GWARNING
If you close a side window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side win-
dow closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of
the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process. This poses an increased risk of
injury or even fatal injury.
Make sure that no parts of the body are in the closing area. To stop the closing process,
release the switch or push the switch again to reopen the side window.

XRemove the objects.

A side window cannotbe closed and you can-not see the cause.
If a side window is obstructed during closing and reopens againslightly:

If a side window is obstructed again during closing and reopensagain slightly:
XImmediately after the window blocks, pull the correspondingswitch again until the side window has closed.The side window is closed without the automatic reversing fea-ture.
The side windows can-not be opened or closedusing the convenienceopening/closing fea-ture.
The SmartKey battery is discharged or nearly discharged.
XCheck the SmartKey battery (Ypage 69) and replace it if neces-sary (Ypage 69).
Roof
Important safety notes
GWARNING
If you do not fully open/close the soft top,
the soft-top hydraulics depressurize after a
short time. This causes the soft top to lower
unexpectedly and may cause you or others
to be trapped. There is a risk of injury.
Always open or close the soft top com-
pletely.
GWARNING
Closing the roof manually is a complicated
and technically demanding procedure, which
requires a lot of strength. You or others can
become trapped. There is a risk of injury.
