Observe the following points:
R Use only the bulb types specified here.
R To prevent a short-circuit, switch off the
lights before changing a bulb.
R Only hold bulbs with a clean, lint-free cloth.
R Do not work with wet or greasy fingers.
R If the new bulb still does not light up, con-
sult a qualified specialist workshop, e.g. a
Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
i Have the headlamp setting checked reg-
ularly at a qualified specialist workshop ,
e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Changing the front bulbs

Switch off the lights.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn housing cover 1anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Turn bulb holder 5anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 5.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 5. Practical advice

X Align housing cover 1and turn it clock -
wise.
Replacing main-beam headlamps (vehi-
cles with halogen headlamps) X
Switch off the lights .
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn bulb holder 3anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 3.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 3.
X Insert bulb holder 3into the headlamp
and turn it clockwise .

Switch off the lights .
X Open the bonnet.
X Pull out bulb holder 4with the bulb.
X Pull the bulb out of bulb holder 4. X
Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 4.
X Insert bulb holder 4into the lamp.
Replacing the turn signal lamps X
Switch off the lights .
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn bulb holder 2anti-clockwise and
remove it together with the bulb.
X Unscrew the bulb from bulb holder 2
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder 2.
X Insert bulb holder 2into the headlamp

X Switch off the lights .
X Open the boot lid.
X Open the cover of the tail lamps to the side.
X Turn the bulb holder anti-clockwise and
remove it.
X Turn the bulb anti-clockwise, applying
slight pressure, and remove it from the bulb
holder. Practical advice

Battery

1 step out of the vehicle first and touch the
bodywork.
R Do not wipe the battery using a cloth. Th e
battery may explode as a result of elec-
trostatic charge or through the creation
of sparks .
! Switch the engine off and remove the key
before unscrewing or disconnecting the
terminal clamps from the battery. You may
otherwise destroy electronic components
such as the alternator.
Have the battery checked and, if neces-
sary, replaced at a qualified specialist
workshop, e.g. a Mercedes-Benz Service
Centre, every two years or at least every
20,000 km.
i Mercedes-Benz recommends that you
have all work involving the battery, e.g.
removing, charging and replacing, carried
out at a qualified specialist workshop, e.g.
a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Installation location of the battery Your vehicle is equipped with a battery in the
engine compartment. It is located on the front
bulkhead under the water tank on the right- hand side of the vehicle when viewed in the
direction of travel.

! Always disconnect the battery in
the order described below. Never swap the
terminal clamps. You may otherwise dam-
age the vehicle electronics. 1

X Apply the handbrake and shift the selecto r
lever to position Pon vehicles with auto-
matic transmission*.
X Switch off all electrical consumers .
X Turn the key to position 0in the ignition
lock and remove it.
X Open the bonnet.
X Turn fasteners 2a quarter of a turn. Practical advice

Fuse
s 238 Before changing a fuse
X Park the vehicle.
X Switch off all electrical consumers .
X Remove the key from the ignition lock. Main fuse box in the dashboar

X To open: open the driver’s door.
The main fuse box is located on the driver's
side of the dashboard. 1
Cover
! Do not use a pointed object, such as a
screwdriver, to open the fuse box in the
dashboard. You could otherwise damage
the dashboard. X
Prise off cover 1on the recess (arrow), for
example using a blunt object as a lever.
X Pull cover 1outwards and remove.
X To close: clip in cover 1at the front .
X Fold cover 1inwards until it engages.
X Close the driver's door. Fuse box in the engine compartment
The fuse box is located in the engine com -
partment on the left when viewed in the direc-
tion of travel.
X To open :open the bonnet (Y page 150). 1

Clamps
X Remove moisture from the fuse box usin g
a dry cloth.
X Fold clamps 3upwards.
X Lift fuse box cover 2up.
X To close: guide the back lug of cover 2
into the recess. When doing this, make sure
that the rubber seal is sitting properly and
that cover 2is properly fitted onto fuse
box 1.
X Press lid 2down and secure with clamps
3 .
X Close the bonnet (Y page 150). Fuse box in the boot
The fuse box is in the boot behind the partition
covering.
A tool is required to open it. Practical advice
