cle and can endanger occupants and other traf~

tailgate open. '

Brakingsafely
Generalinformation
The vehicle is equipped with ABS as a standard feature.
Perform an emergency stop in situations that require such.
Steering is still responsive. You can still avoid
any obstacles with a minimum of steering ef~ fort.
Pulsation of the brake pedal and sounds from the hydraulic circuits indicate that ABS is in its
active mode.
Objectsintheareaaroundthepedals WARNING
Objects in the driver's floor area can limit
the pedal distance or block a depressed pedal. There is a risk of an accident. Stow objects in
the vehicle such that they are secured and can~ not enter into the driver's floor area. Use floor
mats that are suitable for the vehicle and can be safely attached to the floor. Do not useloose floor mats and do not layer several floormats. Make sure that there is sufficient clear~ance for the pedals. Ensure that the floor matsare securely fastened again after they were re~
moved, for instance for cleaning. '

vehicle
When using the automatic climate control, con~
densation water develops and collects under~
neath the vehicle.
Groundclearance NOTE
If ground clearance is insufficient, there
might be contact with the front or rear spoiler,
for instance when driving over curbs or enter~
ing into underground vehicle parking garages. There is a risk of damage to property. Ensure
that there is sufficient ground clearance availa~
ble. '

The fixing points, arrow 1, and the socket, ar~
row 2, are located below the covers in the bumper.
Remove the covers before installing the rear luggage rack.
Loading
Because rear luggage racks raise the vehicle's center of gravity when loaded, they have a ma~jor effect on vehicle handling and steering re~sponse.
Therefore, note the following when loading and driving:'

Avoid unnecessary acceleration and braking.
By maintaining a suitable distance to the vehi~
cle driving ahead of you.
Avoidhighenginespeeds Driving at low engine speeds lowers fuel con~sumption and reduces wear.
If necessary, observe the vehicle's gear shift in~
dicator, refer to page 98.
Usecoastingconditions
When approaching a red light, take your foot
off the accelerator and let the vehicle coast to a
halt.
For going downhill take your foot off the accel~ erator and let the vehicle roll.
The flow of fuel is interrupted while coasting.
Switchofftheengine
duringlongerstops
Switchingofftheengine
Switch off the engine during longer stops, for
instance at traffic lights, railroad crossings or in traffic congestion.
AutoStart/Stopfunction The Auto Start/Stop function of the vehicle au~
tomatically switches off the engine during a
stop.
If the engine is switched off and then restarted rather than leaving the engine running con~ stantly, fuel consumption and emissions are re~
duced. Savings can begin within a few seconds of switching off the engine.
In addition, fuel consumption is also deter~
mined by other factors, such as driving style, road conditions, maintenance or environmentalfactors.Switchoffanyfunctions
thatarenotcurrently
needed
Functions such as seat heating and the rear
window defroster require a lot of energy and
consume additional fuel, especially in city and stop-and-go traffic.
Switch off these functions if they are not
needed.
