To start

CAUTION Do not move the gearshift lever into reverse while the vehicle is moving forward; doing so will damage the transaxle.
 Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal because this will cause premature clutch wear or damage. Do not coast in the “N” (Neutral) position (illegal in many states). Do not use the gearshift lever as a handrest, because this can result in premature wear of the transaxle shift forks.NOTE
 If it is hard to shift into 1st, depress the clutch pedal a second time; the shift will thenbe easier.  To shift into reverse from 5th gear, move the gearshift lever to the “N” (Neutral) position, and then shift it into reverse.

CAUTION Avoid downshifting that may cause the tachometer pointer to enter the red zone. This puts the engine at risk of being dam-aged.CAUTION

Shifting can be performed even while the accelerator pedal is depressed. This allows the driver to enjoy sporty driving, such as quick cornering, by nimbly down-shifting to reduce vehicle speed just before entering a curve.

While the vehicle is stopped or being driven,move the gearshift lever from the “D” (DRIVE) position in the main shift gatetoward the driver’s seat to select manual shifting.
Each time the gearshift lever is pulled rear- ward, the transmission shifts up 1 gear. In addition, each time the gearshift lever is pushed forward, the transmission shifts down1 gear.
CAUTION When manually shifting while the vehicle is being driven, select the correct shift position to control the engine speed so that the tachometer indicator does not enter the redzone. Sudden engine braking and rapid accelera- tion can cause the vehicle to skid. Shift down according to road conditions and vehicle speed. If both the left and right sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated at the same time,the transmission may not change gears.NOTE
 Only the forward gears 1 to 6 can be selected. To reverse or park, place the gearshift lever in the “R” (REVERSE) or “P” (PARK) posi-tion.  During manual shifting, downshifting will be performed automatically when the vehicle slows down and the transmission will down- shift to 1st gear before the vehicle stops.
 If the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated repeatedly, the transmission will also shift repeatedly.  In order to ensure driving performance, upshifting may not occur depending on the vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are oper-ated. In addition, in order to prevent exces- sive engine speed, the buzzer sounds and downshifting may not occur depending onthe vehicle speed even if the gearshift lever or sportronic steering wheel shifters are operated.  When driving in an aggressive manner involving high engine rpm, sudden accelera-tion and/or deceleration, the Twin Clutch SST could take longer to shift due to higher fluid temperatures.

The cruise control will be turned off automat- ically in the following conditions:  When you depress the clutch pedal (on vehicles with manual transaxle).  Your speed slows to about 10 mph (15 km/h) or more below the set speedbecause of an uphill, etc.  Your speed slows to about 25 mph (40 km/h) or less. When the Twin Clutch SST control mode is set to “Sport” mode (on vehicles with Twin Clutch SST).Refer to “Twin Clutch SST control mode” on page 5-76.
 When the active stability control (ASC) starts operating (if so equipped). Refer to “Active stability control (ASC)” on page 5-95.
Also, the set speed driving may be deacti- vated as follow:  When the engine speed rises and approaches the tachometer’s red zone (the red-colored part of the tachometer dial).

If the cruise control is deactivated by any ofthe conditions described in “To deactivate”on page 5-102, you can return to the previ- ously set speed by pressing the “ACC RES” switch (C) while driving at a speed of approx-imately 25 mph (40 km/h) or greater.

WA R N I N G On vehicles with continuously variable transmission (CVT) or Twin Clutch SST,although the cruise control will be disen- gaged when shifting to the “N” (NEU- TRAL) position, never move the selectorlever (CVT) or the gearshift lever (Twin Clutch SST) to the “N” (NEUTRAL) posi- tion while driving.You would have no engine braking and this could cause a serious accident.
CAUTION When the set speed driving is deactivated automatically in any situation other than those listed above, there may be a system malfunction. Press the “ON OFF” switch to turn off thecruise control and have your vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer or a repair facility of yourchoice.

The speedometer shows the vehicle speed in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h).
CAUTION The reference lines for distance and vehicle width are intended to indicate the distance to a flat object such as a level, flat road surface. They may not indicate correct distance depending on the shape of an obstacle.For example, when there is an object behind the vehicle that has upper sections projecting in the direction of the vehicle, the referencelines on the screen will indicate that point A is the farthest point a
nd point B is the closest
point to the vehicle. In reality, point A and Bare actually the same distance from the vehi- cle, and point C is farther off than point A and B.NOTE
 Monitor brightness is adjusted automatically by sensors.
 On vehicles equipped with Mitsubishi Multi- Communication System, it is possible to change the display language of the screen. lights are illuminated
and when they are not.  If the vehicle is equipped with the automatic light control, when the light switch is in a position other than the “OFF” position, themeter illumination switches automatically to the adjusted brightness, depending on the brightness outside the vehicle.  The brightness level of the instruments is stored in memory when the ignition switch isturned off.  If you press and hold the button for longer than about 1 second when the parking lights are illuminated, the brightness level changes to the maximum level. Pressing and holdingthe button for longer than about 1 second again returns the brightness level to the pre- vious level.

Each time the multi-information meter switchis operated, a sound is emitted and the multi- information display changes between infor- mation such as warnings, odometer, tripodometer, service reminder, engine coolant temperature (Type 1), average and momen- tary fuel consumption, driving range, andaverage speed and ACD control mode display (if so equipped).

The operation method is the same as when the ignition switch is in the “OFF” position.For further details, refer to “Odometer/Trip odometer” on page 5-114.
Shows the distance and number of months until the next periodic inspection.Refer to “Service reminder” on page 5-123. Shows the engine coolant temperature. If the coolant becomes hot, “ ” will blink. Pay careful attention to the engine coolant temperature display while you are driving. Shows the approximate driving range (how many more miles or kilometers you can drive) with the current fuel level. When thisdriving range falls below 30 miles (50 km), “- --” is displayed. Refuel as soon as possible.
This displays the average speed from the last reset to the present.There are 2 types of mode settings as follows. For details on how to change the average speed display setting, refer to “Changing thefunction settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-126.

 While driving, the function setting screen is not displayed even if you operate the multi- information meter switch. Driving range display
NOTE
 The driving range is determined based on the fuel consumption data. This may vary depending on the driving conditions and hab- its. Treat the distance displayed as just a rough guideline.  When you refuel, the driving range display is automatically updated.However, if you only add a small amount of fuel, the correct value will not be displayed. Fill to a full tank whenever possible.  When your vehicle is stopped on an extremely steep hill, the driving range valuemay change. This is due to the movement of fuel in the tank and does not indicate any problem.  The display setting can be changed to the preferred units (miles or km).Refer to “Changing the function settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-126.

 When the average speed is being dis- played, if you hold down the multi-infor- mation meter switch, the average speed displayed at that time is reset. When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position from the “ACC” or “LOCK” position, the mode settingchanges automatically from manual to auto. Switching to auto occurs automatically. Ifswitching to manual mode is done, how-ever, the data from the last reset is dis- played.  When the average speed is being dis- played, if you hold down the multi-infor-mation meter switch, these calculations will be reset to zero.  When the ignition switch has been set to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position for about 4 hours or more, the average speed dis- play will automatically reset.
This displays the average fuel consumption from the last reset to the present. There are 2 types of mode settings as follows.For details on how to change the average fuel consumption display setting, refer to “Chang- ing the function settings (With ignition switchin the “ON” position)” on page 5-126. The “ ” mark in the momentary fuel gauge shows the average fuel consumption. (Type 2)
 When the average fuel consumption is being displayed, if you hold down the multi-information meter switch, the aver- age fuel consumption displayed at thattime is reset.  When the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position from the “ACC” or“LOCK” position, the mode setting changes automatically from manual to auto. Switching to auto occurs automatically.  “---” is displayed when the average speed cannot be measured.  The initial (default) setting is “Auto reset mode”.  The display setting can be changed to the preferred units (mph or km/h).Refer to “Changing the function settings (With ignition switch in the “ON” position)” on page 5-126.  The average speed display memories for auto reset mode and manual reset mode are erasedif the battery is disconnected.
