in an accident.
NOTE
During repeated full-lock turning of the steering wheel (for example, while you are manoeuvring the vehicle into a parkingspace), a protection f
unction may be acti-
vated to prevent overheating of the power steering system. This fu
nction will make the
steering wheel graduall
y harder to turn. In
this event, limit your turning of the steering wheel for a while. When the system hascooled down, the steering effort will return to normal.  If you turn the steering wheel while the vehi- cle is stationary with
the headlights on, the
headlights may become
dim. This behavior
is not abnormal. The he
adlights will return to
their original brightness after a short while.

CAUTION If the warning light appears while the engine is running, have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Mitsubishi

start moving from a stopped condition. It alsoprovides sufficient driving force and steering performance as the vehicle turns while press- ing the acceleration pedal.

The skid control function is designed to helpthe driver maintain control of the vehicle onslippery roads or during rapid steering maneuvers. It works by controlling the engine output and the brake on each wheel.

The ASC is automatically activated when theignition switch is turned to the “ON” position or the operation mode is put in ON. You can
deactivate the system by pressing down the “ASC OFF” switch for 3 seconds or longer. When the ASC is deacti
vated, the indica-
tor will turn on. To reactivate the ASC, momentarily press the
“ASC OFF” switch;
the indicator is turned off.
 Do not install any aftermarket limited slip differential (LSD) on
your vehicle. The ASC
may stop functioning properly.NOTE
 An operating sound or vibration may be emitted from under the body in the followingsituations. The sound or vibration is associ- ated with checking the operations of the ASC. At this time,
you may feel a shock
from under the body and the brake pedal if you depress it. These do

 When the ASC is acti
vated, you may feel a

 When the anti-lock braking system warning light is illuminated, the ASC is not active.
Traction control function
CAUTION
CAUTION When driving a vehicle on a snowy or icy road, be sure to install snow tires and drive the vehicle at moderate speeds.
Skid control function
NOTE
 The skid control func
tion operates at speeds
of about 9 mph (15 km/h) or higher.
ASC OFF switch
CAUTION For safety reasons, the “ASC OFF” switch should be operated when your vehicle isstopped.  Be sure to keep the ASC on while driving in normal circumstances.NOTE

1. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light illum
inates, avoid hard
braking, sharp steering maneuvers and high speeds. You should stop and adjust the tires to the proper inflation pressure assoon as possible. Adjust the spare tire at the same time. Refer to “Tires” on page 9-12.
2. If the tire pressure monitoring system warning light remain
s illuminated after
you have been drivi
ng for approximately
20 minutes after you adjust the tire infla- tion pressure, one or more of the tires mayhave a puncture. Inspect the tire and if it has a puncture, have it repaired by an authorized Mitsubishi Motors dealer assoon as possible.
The tire pressure monitoring system may not work normally in the following circum- stances:  A wireless facility
or device using the
same frequency is near the vehicle.  Snow or ice is stuck inside the fenders and/or on the wheels. The tire inflation pressure sensor’s battery is dead.  Wheels other than Mitsubishi Motors Genuine wheels are being used.  Wheels that are not fitted with tire infla- tion pressure sensors are being used. Wheels whose ID codes are not memo- rized by the vehicle are used.  Compact spare tire is fitted on a road wheel.  A window tint that af
fects the radio wave
signals is installed.
If the warning light illuminates while driving

NOTE
 When inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, do not apply excessive force to the valve stem to
avoid breakage.
 After inspecting or adjusting the tire pres- sure, always reinstall the valve cap on thevalve stem. Without the valve cap, di
rt or moisture could
get into the valve, resulting in damage to thetire inflation pressure sensor.  Do not use metal valve caps, which may cause a metal reaction,
resulting in corrosion
and damage of the tire
inflation pressure sen-
sors.  Once adjustments have
been made, the warn-
ing light will go off after a few minutes ofdriving.

lever to (1). Switch the headlights to low beam as a courtesy whenever there are oncoming vehicles, or when there is traffic moving ahead of you. An illuminated bluelight in the instrument cluster indicates when the headlights are on high beam.

You can flash the high beams by pulling the lever gently toward you (2). The lights will
go back to normal when you let go. While the high beam is on, you will see a blue light onthe instrument panel.

When changing lanes, or to making a gradual turn, hold the lever in the “lane change” posi- tion (1). It will return to the neutral positionwhen you let go. Use the full position (2) when making a normal turn. The lever will return to the neutral pos
ition when the turn is
complete. There may be times when the lever does not return to th
e neutral position. This
usually happens when the steering wheel isturned only slightly. You
can easily return the
lever by hand. Also, when you move the lever to (1) slightlythen release it, the turn signal lights and the indicator light in the instrument cluster will flash three times.

 You can flash the high beams by pulling the lever toward you, even if the light switch isoff.  If you turn the lights off with the head lights set to high-beam illumi
nation, the headlights
are automatically returned to their low-beam setting when the light
switch is next turned
to the “ ” position.

 A light in the instrument panel flashes to show when the turn signal lights are workingproperly. If this light flashes fast
er than usual, check
for a burned out turn
signal light bulb or mal-
functioning connecti
on in the signal.
If the panel light does not come on when the lever is moved, check
for a blown fuse or a
burned out bulb in the panel. Have the system inspected by your autho- rized Mitsubishi Motors
dealer or a repair
facility of your choice.  It is possible to modify functions as follows: • Deactivate the turn signal light 3-flash function for lane changes. • Adjust the time required to operate the lever for the 3-flash function. • Changing of the tone of a sounding buzzer as the turn signal lights flash.

For a safer and more enjoyable trip, always check for the following:
 Before starting the ve
hicle, make certain
that you and all passengers are seated and wearing their seat belts properly (with children in the rear seat, in appropriaterestraints), and that all the doors are locked.  Move the driver’s seat as far backward as possible, while keeping good visibility, and good control of the steering wheel, brakes, accelerator, and controls. Check the instrument panel indicators and multi- information display for any possible prob-lem.  Similarly, the front
passenger seat should
also be moved as fa
r back as possible.
 Make sure that infants and small children are properly restrained in accordance with all laws and regulations.

move the selector lever out of the “P”(PARK) position. Never leave the engine running while you take a short nap or rest. Also, never leave the engine running in a closed or poorly venti- lated place. Your front bumper can be damaged if you scrape it over curbs or parking stop blocks. Be careful when traveling up or down steep slopes where your bumper can scrape theroad.
More effort could be required to turn the steering wheel. Refer to “Electric
power steering system
(EPS)” on page 5-50. Always carry the key and lock all doors when leaving the vehicle unattended. Always try to park your vehicle in a well lit area.

If your vehicle breaks down on the road, move to the shoulder and turn on the hazard warning flashers. If there is no shoulder, orthe shoulder is not safe, drive in the right lane slowly with the haza
rd lights flashing until
you come to a safe stopping place. Keep theflashers flashing. If the engine stops, there will be no power assist to the steering and brakes, making these difficult to use.  The brake booster will not work, so the brakes will not grip well. The brake pedal will be harder to press than usual.  Since there is no power steering assist, the steering wheel will be hard to turn.
Get help from your passengers, bystanders, etc. to push the vehicle
and move it to a safe
area.

cables. 1. Take off any metal jewelry such as watch bands or bracelets th
