Modifications to and racing of your vehicle 3-6 General information
3
VEHICLE ARE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. Examples of modifica
tions to your vehicle
that can cause damage or performance prob- lems include the following:  Failure to use
Mitsubishi Motors genuine
parts Failure to use required fuel and fluids  Failure to use proper
size tires and wheels
 Modification of the fuel, intake, exhaust, emission, suspension, engine, drive train or electrical wiring systems Modification of any onboard com- puter/control module, including repro- gramming, or replacing/adding chips toany onboard computer/control module
Review the Warranty and Maintenance Man- ual for further details
regarding warranty cov-
erage.

 The installation of ac
cessories, optional
parts, etc., shoul
d only be performed
within the limits prescribed by law, and inaccordance with the
guidelines and warn-
ings contained within the documents accompanying this vehicle.Only Mitsubishi Motors approved acces- sories should be fitted to your vehicle.  Improper installation of electrical parts could cause a fire. Re
fer to the “Modifica-
tion/alterations to the electrical or fuel systems” section with
in this owner’s man-
ual.  Using a cellular phone or radio set inside the vehicle without an
external antenna
may cause electrical system interference, which could lead to unsafe vehicle opera- tion. Tires and wheels whic
h do not meet spec-
ifications must not be used.
Refer to the “Specifi
cations” section for
information regarding wheel and tiresizes.
Due to the large number of accessory and replacement parts provided by different man- ufacturers in the market, it is not always pos- sible for an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer to check whether the attachment or installation of non-Mitsubishi Motors genu- ine parts affects the driving safety of yourvehicle.
Installation of accessories
CAUTION Before any electrical or electronic accesso- ries are installed, cons
ult an authorized Mit-
subishi Motors dealer.
 Your vehicle is equi
pped with a diagnosis
connector (data link c
onnector) for checking
and servicing the elec
tronic control system.
Mitsubishi Motors does not recommend con- necting a device other than the Scan Tool for inspections and servic
e to this connector
because an unexpected
problem could result.
In addition, malfuncti
ons caused by connect-
ing a device other than the Scan Tool maynot be covere
d under warranty.
CAUTION
WA R N I N GWhile driving, do not use a cellular phone in a way that hinders safe driving. Any-thing, including cellu
lar phone usage, that
distracts you from the safe operation of your vehicle increases you
r risk of an acci-
dent. Refer to and follow al
l state and local laws
in your area regarding cellular phoneusage while driving.

N00562201211
You can program new keys to the system if you have two valid (alr
eady registered) keys
and blank immobilizer ke
y (specially cut for
your vehicle at your Mitsubishi Motorsdealer) by doing the following: 1. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch and turn the key to the “ON” posi-tion for 5 seconds. 2. Turn the key to the “OFF” or “LOCK” position and remove the first key.3. Within 30 seconds of removing the first key, insert the second valid key into the ignition and turn it to the “ON” position.About 10 seconds la
ter, the immobilizer
display will start to blink.
4. When the immobilizer display starts blinking, turn the second valid key to the“OFF” or “LOCK” position and remove it. Within 30 seconds after doing so, insert a blank immobilizer ke
y into the ignition
switch and turn it to the “ON” position. Perform this operation no more than 30 seconds after the immobilizer displaystarts blinking. When registration of the ID code is complete, the immobilizer dis- play will come on for 30 seconds then go off. If an error occurs, the blinking immo- bilizer display will
go off during the pro-
cedure. 5. If you wish to register another key, per- form the process again from step 1.

NOTE
 Perform the operation when the interrupt dis- play screen is not show
ing. The interrupt dis-
play screen may prevent you from seeing the immobilizer display.  It is not possible to register a key if: • the immobilizer displa
y goes off during the
procedure • the immobilizer disp
lay does not come on
within 30 seconds after step 4.
 The procedure will be terminated automati- cally if: • a period of 30 seconds or longer elapses from the moment when the first key is turned to the “OFF” or “LOCK” position tothe moment when the second key is turned to the “ON” position • a period of 30 seconds or longer elapses from the moment when the second key is turned to the “OFF” or “LOCK” position tothe moment when the blank immobilizer key is turned to the “ON” position
 To use the new remote control transmitters, it is necessary to register
the key with both the
electronic immobilizer
and keyless entry sys-
tem. Also refer to “Keyless entry system: Cus- tomer remote control transmitter program-ming” on page 5-9.

Use the emergency key to lock and unlock the driver’s door in such circumstances.Refer to “To operate
without using the
F.A.S.T.-key” on page 5-29.  The F.A.S.T.-key is constantly performing reception opera

If new wheels with new tire inflation pressuresensors are installed, their ID codes must beprogrammed into the tire pressure monitoring system. Have tire and wheel replacement per- formed by an authorized Mitsubishi Motorsdealer to avoid the ri
sk of damaging the tire
inflation pressure sensors. If the wheel replacement is not done by an authorizedMitsubishi Motors dealer
, it is not covered by
your warranty.

In case that 2 sets of
tire inflation pressure
sensor ID are registered in the receiver, the valid tire ID set can be
changed by following
procedure. 1. Operate the multi information display switch to switch the information screen to the menu screen. Refer to “Multi information displayswitch” on page 5-158. Refer to “Changing th

NOTE
 Tire inflation pressures vary with the ambi- ent temperature. If the
vehicle is subjected to
large variations in am
bient temperature, the
tire inflation pressures may be under-inflated (causing the warning li
ght / display come on)
when the ambient temperature is relatively low. If the warning light / display comes on, adjust the tire inflation pressure.
Whenever the tires and wheels are replaced with new ones
CAUTION The use of non-genuine wheels will prevent the proper fit of the tire inflation pressuresensors, resulting air
leakage or damage of
the sensors.
Tire ID set change
NOTE
 Each time this procedure is done, the tire ID set is changed. (1 - 2 - 1 - 2 …)  The tire ID set is NOT changed, in case that only 1 set of ID is registered.
