OPERA TINGPRECAUTIONS

. Avoid towing atrailer during thebreak -inperiod.
. Before driving, makesurethatthelighting system
of the trailer works properly .
. Observe thelegal maximum speedsfortrailer
operation.
. Avoid abrupt starts,accelerations andstops.
. Avoid sharpturnsandlane changes.
. Always driveyourvehicle atamoderate speed.
. Follow thetrailer manufacturer's instructions.
. Choose propercoupling devices(trailerhitch,
safety chain,roofcarrier, etc.)foryour vehicle and
trailer. Thesedevices areavailable fromaNISSAN
dealer whereyoucan also obtain moredetailed
information abouttrailertowing.
. Never allowthetotal trailer load(trailer weight plus
its cargo weight) toexceed themaximum setfor
the vehicle andthecoupling device.Seea

. Thetrailer mustbeloaded sothat heavy goods are
placed overtheaxle. Themaximum allowable
vertical loadonthe trailer hitchmust notbe
exceeded. .
Have yourvehicle serviced moreoftenthanatthe
intervals specified inaseparate maintenance
booklet.
. Trailer towing requires morefuelthan under
normal circumstances becauseofaconsiderable
increase intraction powerandresistance.
While towing atrailer, checktheengine coolant
temperature indicatortoprevent thevehicle
from overheating.

WARNING:
. Ifthe engine isnot running oristurned off
while driving, thepower assistforthe
steering willnotwork. Thesteering willbe
much harder tooperate.
. When theelectric powersteering warning
light illuminates withtheengine running, the
power assistforthe steering willcease
operation. You will still have control ofthe
vehicle butthesteering willbeharder to
operate.
The electric powersteering systemisdesigned to
provide powerassistwhiledriving tooperate the
steering wheelwithlight force.
When thesteering wheelisoperated repeatedly or
continuously whileparking ordriving atavery low
speed, thepower assistforthe steering wheelwillbe
reduced. Thisisto prevent overheating ofthe electric
power steering systemandprotect itfrom getting
damaged. Whilethepower assistisreduced, steering
wheel operation willbecome heavy.When the
temperature ofthe electric powersteering system
goes down, thepower assistlevelwillreturn tonormal.
Avoid repeating suchsteering wheeloperations that
could cause theelectric powersteering systemto
overheat.
Y ou may hear africative soundwhenthesteering
wheel isoperated quickly.However, thisisnot a
malfunction.
If the electric powersteering warninglight
illuminates whiletheengine isrunning, itmay indicate
the electric powersteering systemisnot functioning
properly andmay need servicing. Havetheelectric
power steering systemchecked byaNISSAN dealer.

theelectric powersteering warninglight
illuminates withtheengine running, thepower assist
for the steering willcease operation. You will still have
control ofthe vehicle. However, greatersteering effort
is needed, especially insharp turnsandatlow speeds.

The brake system hastwo separate hydraulic circuits.If
one circuit malfunctions, youwillstill have braking
ability attwo wheels.
BRAKE PRECAUTIONS

V acuum assisted brakes

The brake booster aidsbraking byusing engine
vacuum. Ifthe engine stops,youcan stop thevehicle
by depressing thefoot brake pedal. However, greater
foot pressure onthe foot brake pedalwillberequired
to stop thevehicle. Thestopping distancewillbe
longer.
If the engine isnot running oristurned offwhile driving,
the power assisted brakeswillnot function. Braking
will beharder.
WARNING:
Do not coast withtheengine stopped.
For model withBrake Assist: Whenthebrake pedalis
depressed slowlyandfirmly ,you may hear aclicking
noise andfeelaslight pulsation. Thisisnormal and
indicates thattheBrake Assist System isoperating.
Using brakes

Avoid resting yourfootonthe foot brake pedalwhile
driving. Thiswilloverheat thebrakes, wearoutthe
brake linings/pads faster,andincrease fuelconsump-
tion.
T o help reduce brakewearandtoprevent thebrakes
from overheating, reducespeedanddownshift toa
lower gearbefore goingdownaslope orlong grade.
Overheated brakesmayreduce braking performance
and could resultinloss ofvehicle control.
While driving onaslippery surface, becareful when
braking, accelerating ordownshifting. Abruptbraking

Do not attempt tostart theengine bypushing the
vehicle.
CAUTION:
. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)/
Manual Transmission (MT)model cannot be
started bypushing. Attempting todo somay
cause damage tothe transmission.
. Three-way catalystequipped modelshould
not bestarted bypushing. Attempting todo
so may cause damage tothe catalyst.
. Never trytostart theengine bytowing.
When theengine starts,theforward surge
could cause thevehicle tocollide withthe
towing vehicle.

WARNING:
. Never continue drivingifyour vehicle over-
heats. Doingsocould cause avehicle fire.
. Never openthehood ifsteam iscoming out.
. Never remove theradiator orcoolant reser-
voir capwhile theengine ishot. Ifthe
radiator orcoolant reservoir capisremoved
when theengine ishot, pressurized hot
water willspurt outand possibly cause
burning, scalding orserious injury.
. Ifsteam orcoolant iscoming fromthe
engine, standclearofthe vehicle toprevent
getting burned.
. The engine cooling fanwill start atanytime
when thecoolant temperature exceedspre-
set degrees.
. Becareful nottoallow yourhands, hair,
jewelry orclothing tocome intocontact with,
or toget caught inthe cooling fanordrive
belts.
If your vehicle isoverheating (indicatedbythe high
temperature indicator),or ifyou feel alack ofengine
power, detectunusual noise,etc.,takethefollowing
steps:
1. Safely movethevehicle offthe road away from
traffic.
2. Turn onthe hazard indicator flasherlights.
3. Apply theparking brake.
4. Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)model:
Move theshift lever tothe ªPº (Park) position.
Manual Transmission (MT)model: Movetheshift
lever tothe ªNº (Neutral) position.
DO NOTST OP THE ENGINE . 5.
Open allthe windows.
6. Turn offthe airconditioner. Movethetemperature
control tomaximum hotand thefancontrol tohigh
speed.
7. Get outfrom thevehicle.
8. Visually inspectandlisten forsteam orcoolant
escaping fromtheradiator beforeopening the
hood. Wait until nosteam orcoolant canbeseen
before proceeding.
9. Open theengine hood.
10. Visually inspectifthe cooling fanisrunning.
11. Visually inspecttheradiator andradiator hosesfor
leakage.
If the cooling fanisnot running orthe coolant is
leaking, stoptheengine.
12. After theengine coolsdown, checkthecoolant
level inthe reservoir withtheengine running. Do
not open theradiator cap.
13. Add coolant tothe reservoir ifnecessary .
Have yourvehicle inspected/repaired ataNISSAN
dealer.

TIRE INFLA TION PRESSURE

Periodically checkthepressure ofthe tires, including
the spare. Anincorrect tirepressure mayadversely
affect tirelifeand vehicle handling. Thetirepressure
should bechecked whentiresareCOLD. Tiresare
considered COLDafterthevehicle hasbeen parked
for 3or more hours, ordriven lessthan 1.6km(1mile) .
COLD tirepressures areshown onthe tire placard.
Insufficient pressurecanlead toan overheating ofthe
tire and subsequent internaldamage. Athigh speeds,
this could resultintread separation andeven bursting
of the tire.
TYPES OFTIRES

CAUTION:
When changing orreplacing tires,besure all
four tires areofthe same type(that is,summer,
all season orsnow) andconstruction. ANISSAN
dealer maybeable tohelp youwith information
about tiretype, size,speed ratingandavail-
ability.
Replacement tiresmayhave alower speed ratingthan
the factory equipped tires,andthey maynotmatch the
potential maximum vehiclespeed.Neverexceed the
maximum speedratingofthe tire.
All season tires

NISSAN specifies allseason tiresonsome models to
provide goodperformance allyear, including snowy
and icyroad conditions. Allseason tiresareidentified
by ALL SEASON and/orM&Sonthe tiresidewall.
Snow tireshave better snowtraction thanallseason
tires andmay bemore appropriate insome areas.
Summer tires

NISSAN specifies summertiresonsome models to
provide superior performance ondry roads. Summer
tire performance issubstantially reducedinsnow and
ice. Summer tiresdonot have thetiretraction rating
M&S onthe tire sidewall.
If you plan tooperate yourvehicle insnowy oricy
conditions, NISSANrecommends theuse ofsnow or
all season tiresonallfour wheels.
Snow tires

If snow tiresareneeded, itis necessary toselect tires
equivalent insize andload rating tothe original
equipment tires.Ifyou donot, itcan adversely affect
the safety andhandling ofyour vehicle.
Generally ,snow tireshave lower speed ratings than
factory equipped tiresandmay notmatch thepotential
maximum vehiclespeed.Neverexceed themaximum
speed ratingofthe tire. Ifyou install snowtires,they
must bethe same size,brand, construction andtread
pattern onallfour wheels.
For additional tractiononicy roads, studded tiresmay
be used. However, somestates andprovinces prohibit
their use.Check local,stateandprovincial lawsbefore
installing studdedtires.Skidandtraction capabilities
of studded snowtiresonwet ordry surfaces maybe
poorer thanthatofnon-studded snowtires.
TIRE CHAINS

Use oftire chains maybeprohibited accordingto
location. Checkthelocal lawsbefore installing tire
chains. Wheninstalling tirechains, makesurethatthey
are ofproper sizeforthe tires onyour vehicle andare
installed according tothe chain manufacturer's in-
structions.
Use chain tensioners whenrecommended bythe tire
chain manufacturer toensure atight fit.Loose endlinks
of the tire chains mustbesecured orremoved to
prevent thepossibility ofwhipping actiondamage to
the fenders orunderbody .If possible, avoidfully
loading yourvehicle whenusing tirechains. Inaddition,
drive atareduced speed.Otherwise, yourvehicle may
be damaged and/orvehicle handling andperformance
may beadversely affected.
Tire chains mustbeinstalled onlyonthe front
wheels andnotonthe rear wheels.
Do not drive withtirechains onpaved roadswhich are
clear ofsnow .Driving withchains insuch conditions
can cause damage tothe various mechanisms ofthe
vehicle duetosome overstress.
