CONSULT-II Function (A/T) BCS0010D
CONSULT-II can display each diagnostic item using the diagnostic test models shown following.
FUNCTION
NOTICE:
1. The CONSULT-II electrically displays shift timing and lock-up timing (that is, operation timing of each sole-
noid).
Check for time difference between actual shift timing and the CONSULT-II display. If the difference is
noticeable, mechanical parts (except solenoids, sensors, etc.) may be malfunctioning. Check mechanical
parts using applicable diagnostic procedures.
2. Shift schedule (which implies gear position) displayed on CONSULT-II and that indicated in Service Man-
ual may differ slightly. This occurs because of the following reasons:
–Actual shift schedule has more or less tolerance or allowance,
–Shift schedule indicated in Service Manual refers to the point where shifts start, and
–Gear position displayed on CONSULT-II indicates the point where shifts are completed.
3. Shift solenoid valve “A” or “B” is displayed on CONSULT-II at the start of shifting. Gear position is dis-
played upon completion of shifting (which is computed by TCM).

TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS

Diagnostic Procedure Without CONSULT-IIBCS0010E
TCM SELF-DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (WITHOUT CONSULT-II)
Description
If a malfunction occurs in electrical system, check the self-diagnostic result after confirming A/T CHECK indi-
cator lamp works. To detect a malfunction, entering a self-diagnosis start signal retrieves information on mal-
functions from memory and indicates malfunction by blinking A/T CHECK indicator lamp.
Diagnostic Procedure
1. CHECK A/T CHECK INDICATOR LAMP
1. Park vehicle on flat surface.
2. Move selector lever to “P” position.
Start engine and warm it up to normal engine operating temperature.
3. Turn ignition switch OFF.
4. Wait 5 seconds.
5. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
Does A/T CHECK indicator lamp come on for about 2 seconds?
YES >> GO TO 2.
NO >> Stop procedure. Perform AT- 1 7 3 , "
A/T CHECK Indicator Lamp Does Not Come On" before pro-
ceeding.
2. JUDGEMENT PROCEDURE STEP 1
1. Turn ignition switch OFF.
2. Push and hold shift lock release button.
3. Depress the brake pedal, then move gear selector lever from “P” to “3” position.
4. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
5. Wait 3seconds.
6. Move selector lever to “2” position.
7. Release brake pedal.
8. Move selector lever to “1” position.
9. Depress brake pedal.
10. Depress accelerator.
11. The A/T CHECK indicator lamp will begin to flash.
>> GO TO 3.
3. CHECK SELF-DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Check A/T CHECK indicator lamp. Refer to AT- 7 7 , "
Judgement of Self-Diagnosis Code" .

TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVEPFP:31940
DescriptionBCS0011O
Torque converter clutch solenoid valve is activated, with the gear in D4 , D3 and 33 , by TCM in response to
signals sent from vehicle speed and the ECM (throttle opening). Lock-up piston operation will then be con-
trolled.
Lock-up operation, however, is prohibited when A/T fluid temperature is too low.
When the accelerator pedal is depressed (less than 2.0/8) in lock-up condition, the engine speed should not
change abruptly. If there is a big jump in engine speed, there is no lock-up.
CONSULT-II Reference ValueBCS0011P
On Board Diagnosis LogicBCS0011Q
Diagnostic trouble code “T/C CLUTCH SOL/V” with CONSULT-II or 7th judgement flicker without CONSULT-II
is detected when TCM detects an improper voltage drop when it tries to operate solenoid valve.
Possible CauseBCS0011R
Torque converter clutch solenoid valve
Harness or connector
(Solenoid circuit is open or shorted.)
DTC Confirmation ProcedureBCS0011S
CAUTION:
Always drive vehicle at a safe speed.
If performing this “DTC Confirmation Procedure” again, always turn ignition switch OFF and wait
at least 10 seconds before continuing.
After the repair, perform the following procedure to confirm that the malfunction is eliminated.
WITH CONSULT-II
1. Turn ignition switch ON. (Do not start engine.)
2. Select “DATA MONITOR” mode for “A/T” with CONSULT-II and
wait at least 1 second.
3. Start engine and maintain the following condition for at least 5
consecutive seconds.
VEHICLE SPEED: 80 km/h (50 MPH) or more
THROTTLE POSI: 0.5/8 - 1.0/8
SLCT LVR POSI: “D” position
Driving location: Driving the vehicle uphill (increased
engine load) will help maintain the driving conditions
required for this test.
4. If DTC is detected, go to AT- 1 0 7 , "

WITHOUT CONSULT-II
1. Start engine.
2. Drive vehicle in D
