c. Check brake band facing for damage, cracks, wear or burns.
Replace brake band if necessary.
36. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) and reverse clutch assembly according to the follow-
ing procedures.
a. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) with
reverse clutch assembly.
b. Remove input shaft assembly (high clutch assembly) (1) from
reverse clutch assembly (2).
c. Remove needle bearing from input shaft assembly (high clutch
drum).
Check needle bearing and input shaft assembly (high clutch
drum), and replace if damaged or worn.

d. Remove high clutch hub (with front sun gear) and needle bear-
ing from input shaft assembly (high clutch drum).
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
e. Remove front sun gear and needle bearing from high clutch hub.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
f. Remove bearing race from front sun gear.
Check bearing race and front sun gear, and replace if dam-
aged or worn.
37. Remove needle bearing from transaxle case.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
38. Apply compressed air and check to see that low & reverse brake
operates.
39. Remove low one-way clutch and front planetary carrier assem-
bly according to the following procedures.
a. Remove snap ring with flat-bladed screwdriver.

b. Remove low one-way clutch with a hook made of wire.
Check low one-way clutch, and replace if damaged or worn.
c. Remove snap ring with flat-bladed screwdriver.
d. Remove front planetary carrier with low & reverse brake piston
and retainer.
e. Remove spring retainer.
CAUTION:
Do not remove return springs from spring retainer.

f. Check that low one-way clutch rotates counter-clockwise around
front planetary carrier. Then try to turn it clockwise and check
that it is locked.
Replace low one-way clutch if necessary.
g. Remove needle bearing, low & reverse brake piston and retainer
from front planetary carrier.
Check front planetary carrier, low & reverse brake piston,
retainer and needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
h. Check clearance between planetary gears and planetary carrier
with feeler gauge.
Replace front planetary carrier if the clearance exceeds allow-
able limit.
40. Remove rear planetary carrier and rear sun gear according to the following procedures.
a. Remove rear planetary carrier (with rear sun gear) from tran-
saxle case.

b. Remove rear sun gear from rear planetary carrier.
c. Remove needle bearings from rear planetary carrier.
Check rear planetary carrier and needle bearings, and
replace if damaged or worn.
d. Check clearance between pinion washer and rear planetary car-
rier with feeler gauge.
Replace rear planetary carrier if the clearance exceeds allow-
able limit.
41. Remove rear internal gear and forward clutch hub from tran-
saxle case.
42. Remove overrun clutch hub from transaxle case.

43. Remove needle bearing from overrun clutch hub.
Check needle bearing and overrun clutch hub, and replace if
damaged or worn.
44. Remove forward clutch assembly and overrun clutch assembly
from transaxle case.
45. Remove needle bearing from transaxle case.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
46. Remove output shaft assembly according to the following proce-
dures.
a. Remove side cover fitting bolts.
CAUTION:
Do not mix bolts A and B.
Always replace bolts A as they are self-sealing bolts.
b. Remove side cover by lightly tapping it with a soft hammer.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to drop output shaft assembly. It might
come out when removing side cover.
Be careful not to damage side cover.

c. Remove output shaft adjusting shim.
d. Remove output shaft assembly.
If output shaft assembly came off with side cover, tap side
cover with a soft hammer to separate.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage side cover.
e. Remove needle bearing.
Check needle bearing, and replace if damaged or worn.
f. Remove bearing retainer from transaxle case.

47. Disassemble reduction pinion gear according to the following
procedures.
a. Set manual shaft to “P” position to fix idler gear.
b. Unlock idler gear lock nut with pin punch.
c. Remove idler gear lock nut.
d. Remove idler gear with puller.
e. Remove reduction pinion gear.
f. Remove reduction pinion gear adjusting shim from reduction
pinion gear.
48. Remove return spring and parking pawl spacer with flat-bladed
screwdriver from parking shaft.
49. Draw out parking shaft and remove parking pawl from transaxle
case.
Check parking pawl and parking shaft, and replace it dam-
aged or worn.

50. Remove parking actuator support from transaxle case.
Check parking actuator support, and replace if damaged or
worn.
51. Remove LH differential side oil seal with flat-bladed screwdriver
from transaxle case.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to scratch transaxle case.
