SRS airbag warning light

The SRS airbag warning light, displaying
in the
meter, monitors thecircuits forthe airbag systems,
pre-tensioner seatbeltsystems andallrelated wiring.
When theignition switchisin the ªONº position, the
SRS airbag warning lightilluminates forabout 7
seconds andthen turns off.This indicates thattheSRS
air bag systems areoperational.
If any ofthe following conditions occur,theairbag
and/or pre-tensioner seatbeltsystems needservicing:
. The SRS airbag warning lightremains onafter
approximately 7seconds. .
The SRS airbag warning lightflashes intermit-
tently .
. TheSRS airbag warning lightdoes notilluminate
at all.
Under theseconditions, theairbag and/or pre-
tensioner seatbeltsystems maynotoperate properly.
They must bechecked andrepaired. Contacta
NISSAN dealerimmediately .

When theairbags inflate, afairly loudnoise maybe
heard, followed bythe release ofsmoke. Thissmoke is

be taken nottoinhale it,as itmay cause irritation and
choking. Thosewithahistory ofabreathing condition
should getfresh airpromptly .

position andthefront passenger airbag isactive,
the front passenger airbag status OFFlight
will turn offafter about 7seconds. The
front passenger airbag status ON light
will illuminate andthen turnoffafter 1minute when
the front passenger airbag switch isin the ªONº
position.

position andthefront passenger airbag is

. Work around oron the pre-tensioner seat
belt system shouldbedone byaNISSAN
dealer. TheSRS wiring should notbe
modified ordisconnected. Unauthorized
electrical testequipment andprobing de-
vices should notbeused onthe pre-
tensioner seatbeltsystem.
. Ifyou need todispose ofthe pre-tensioner
seat beltsystem, orscrap thevehicle,
contact aNISSAN dealer.Correct pre-ten-
sioner disposal procedures aresetforth in
the appropriate NISSANServiceManual.
Incorrect disposalprocedures couldcause
personal injury.
The pre-tensioner isencased withthefront seatbelt's
retractor andanchor. Theseseatbelts areused the
same asconventional seatbelts.
When thepre-tensioner seatbeltactivates, afairly loud
noise maybeheard, followed bythe release ofsmoke.
This smoke isnot harmful anddoes notindicate afire.
Care should betaken nottoinhale it,as itmay cause
irritation andchoking. Thosewithahistory ofa
breathing conditionshouldgetfresh airpromptly .
REP AIR AND REPLACEMENT PROCE-
DURE

. Once theairbags havebeen inflated, theair
bag modules willnotfunction andmust be
replaced. Theairbag modules mustbe
replaced byaNISSAN dealer.Theinflated
air bag modules cannotberepaired.
. The airbag systems shouldbeinspected by
a NISSAN dealerifthere isany damage to
the front endportion ofthe vehicle. .
Ifyou need todispose ofthe SRS orscrap
the vehicle, contactaNISSAN dealer.Cor-
rect disposal procedures aresetforth inthe
appropriate NISSANServiceManual. Incor-
rect disposal procedures couldcause perso-
nal injury.
The airbags andpre-tensioner seatbelts aredesigned
to activate onaone-time-only basis.Asareminder,
unless theSRS airbag warning lightisdamaged, the
SRS airbag warning lightremains illuminated after
inflation hasoccurred. Therepair andreplacement of
the SRS should bedone onlybyaNISSAN dealer.
When maintenance workisrequired onthe vehicle,
information abouttheairbags, pre-tensioner seatbelts
and related partsshould bepointed outtothe person
performing themaintenance. Theignition switch
should always beinthe ªLOCKº position whenworking
under thehood orinside thevehicle.

Malfunction IndicatorLight(MIL) illuminates. After
starting theengine, theMIL turns off.This indicates
that theengine control system and/orCVTsystem is
operational.
If the MIL illuminates whiletheengine isrunning, itmay
indicate thattheengine control system isnot
functioning properlyandmay need servicing. Have
the vehicle checked, andifnecessary repaired,bya
NISSAN dealerpromptly . If
the MIL blinks (ifequipped) whiletheengine is
running, itmay indicate apotential malfunction inthe
emission controlsystem. Inthis case, theemission
control system maynotfunction properly andmay need
servicing. Havethesystem checked, andifnecessary
