Distance recorder
The trip distance recorder is reset to
zero by pressing the right-hand button
on the instrument panel for more than
two seconds.
22 Automatic air conditioning
This equipment permits the setting of a
level of comfort in the passenger com-
partment. It then controls this level auto-
matically in accordance with the exterior
climatic conditions.

through the various data in the follow-
ing order:
- language of information displayed,
- hours (12 then 24 hour mode),
- minutes,
- year,
- month,
- day,
- unit of temperature (degrees Cel- sius or Fahrenheit).
Pressing button 2 a l l o w s m o d i fi c a t i o n
of the data selected. Press and hold for
rapid advance (return to start after the
last possible value).
After 7 seconds with no action, the main
d i s p l a y r e t u r n s ; t h e m o d i fi e d d a t a a r e
now recorded.
Note: Pressing button 2 b r i e fl y d i s p l a y s
the outside temperature for a few seconds.
When the outside temperature is be-
tween -3° and 3°C, the outside tempera-
ture display on the screen takes priority
over the clock display.
This displays the following information:
- the time,
- the date,
- t h e o u t s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e * ( t h i s fl a s h e s
when it is between -3 and 3°C),
- the audio system displays,
- a door check (e.g.: ''left front door open''),
- warning messages (e.g. ''remote c o n t r o l b a t t e r y fl a t ' ' ) o r i n f o r m a t i o n
messages (e.g. ''economy mode
active''), displayed temporarily.

This enables the following information
to be displayed:
- the time,
- the date,
- t h e o u t s i d e t e m p e r a t u r e * ( t h i s fl a s h -es when it is between -3 and 3 °C),
- the status of the doors. The display shows you, by means of a graphic,
whether a door is open,
- the warning messages (e.g. ''battery charge fault'') or information mes-
sages (e.g. "fuel level low''), dis-
played temporarily, can be cleared
by pressing button 1 or 2 ,
- the trip computer. Setting the parameters

- day.
Pressing button 2 allows you to change
the information selected. Maintain the
pressure for rapid scrolling.
After 7 seconds without operation, the
screen returns to the normal display

VENTILATION
System which creates and maintains
comfortable conditions in the vehicle's
passenger compartment.
Air treatment
The incoming air follows various routes
depending on the controls selected by
the driver:
- direct arrival in the passenger com-partment (air intake),
- passage through a heating circuit (heating),
- passage through a cooling circuit (air conditioning). The temperature control enables you to
obtain the level of comfort required by
mixing the air of the various circuits.
The air distribution control enables you
to diffuse the air in the passenger com-
partment combining several air vents.
T h e a i r fl o w c o n t r o l e n a b l e s y o u t o i n -
crease or reduce the speed of the ven-
tilation blower.
The air circulating in the passenger
c o m p a r t m e n t i s fi l t e r e d a n d o r i g i n a t e s
either from the outside via the grille lo-
cated on the bonnet or from the inside
in air recirculation mode.
Control panel
The controls of this system are grouped
together on the centre console. De-
pending on the model, the functions of-
fered are:
- the level of comfort required,
- t h e a i r fl o w ,
- the air distribution,
- the de-icing and demisting,
- the manual or automatic air condi-
tioning controls.
Air diffusion
1. Windscreen de-icing or demisting
vents.
2. Front side window de-icing or de-
misting vents.
3. Side adjustable and closing vents.
4. Central adjustable and closing vents.
5. Air outlets to the front footwells.
6. Lower air outlets (under the front
seats) * .

The air conditioning system does
not contain chlorine and does not
present any danger to the ozone
layer.
In order for these systems to be fully effective, follow the operation and main-
tenance rules below:
If the interior temperature remains very high after the vehicle has been
parked in the sun for a considerable time, do not hesitate t o ventilate the
passenger compartment for a few minutes.

newal of air in the passenger compartment.
To obtain an even air distribution, take care not to obst ruct the exterior air
intake grille located on the bonnet, the vents and the a ir passages under
the front seats.
Operate the air conditioning system for 5 to 10 minutes, on ce or twice a
month to keep it in perfect working order.

h a v e t h e fi l t e r e l e m e n t s r e p l a c e d r e g u l a r l y ( r e f e r t o t h e " C h e c k s " s e c t i o n ) .

of the air breathed by the occupants and the cleanness of th e passenger
compartment (reduction of allergic symptoms, bad odours and greasy
deposits).
To guarantee correct operation of the air conditioning syste m, you are also
advised to have it checked regularly.
If the system does not produce cold air, do not use it and contact a
PEUGEOT dealer.
When towing the maximum load on a steep gradient in high temperatures,
switching off the air conditioning permits the recovery of engi ne power and
therefore improvement of the towing capacity.
The condensation created by the air conditioning results in a discharge of
water under the vehicle which is perfectly normal.

MANUAL AIR CONDITIONING
The air conditioning system can only operate when the engine is running.
1. Temperature adjustment
Turn the dial from blue (cold) to red
(hot) to adjust the temperature to
suit your requirements.

These settings are recommended for
cold climates. Central and side vents.
This setting is recommended for hot

Move the manual control to

The intake of exterior air prevents the
formation of condensation on the wind-
screen and side windows.
The recirculation of interior air prevents
exterior odours and smoke from enter-
ing the passenger compartment.
Used simultaneously with the air condi-
tioning, the air recirculation improves its
performance.
Used in a damp climate, the air recircu-
lation may cause condensation to form
on the windows.
Return to exterior air intake mode as
soon as possible to avoid deterioration
of the air quality and prevent condensa-
tion.
Move the manual control to

r e c i r c u l a t i o n " p o s i t i o n .
Turn the dial from position 1
to position 4 to obtain an
a i r fl o w s u f fi c i e n t t o e n s u r e
your comfort.
I f y o u p l a c e t h e a i r fl o w c o n t r o l i n p o -
sition OFF (deactivation of the sys-
tem), the temperature is no longer
maintained at a comfortable level.
H o w e v e r , a s l i g h t fl o w o f a i r , d u e t o
the movement of the vehicle, can
still be felt.

De-icing - Demisting
To quickly de-ice or demist the wind-
screen and side windows:
place the air intake control 4 in the
" E x t e r i o r a i r i n t a k e " p o s i t i o n ,
place the air distribution dial 3 in the
" W i n d s c r e e n " p o s i t i o n ,
place the temperature dial 1 and the
a i r fl o w d i a l 2 in the maximum posi-
tion,
close the central vents,
switch on the air conditioning by
pressing the "A/C" button.
5. Air conditioning On/Off
S w i t c h i n g o n
Press the "A/C" button, the associ-
ated indicator light comes on.
T h e a i r c o n d i t i o n i n g d o e s n o t o p -
e r a t e w h e n t h e a i r fl o w a d j u s t m e n t
dial 2 is in position "OFF".
S w i t c h i n g o f f
Press the "A/C" button again, the as-
sociated indicator light switches off.
REAR SCREEN
DE-ICING
S w i t c h i n g o n
The rear screen de-icing can only oper-
ate when the engine is running.
Press this button to de-ice the rear
screen. The indicator light associ-
ated with the button comes on.
S w i t c h i n g o f f
The de-icing switches off automatically
to prevent an excessive consumption of
current.
It is possible to stop the de-icing op-
eration before it is switched off au-
tomatically by pressing the button
again. The indicator light associated
with the button switches off.
If the engine is switched off before the
de-icing is switched off automatically,
de-icing will resume next time the en-
gine is switched on.
Switch off the de-icing of the rear
screen as soon as you consider this
necessary as lower current con-
sumption results in reduced fuel
consumption. The control button is located on
the air conditioning system con-
trol panel.
The air conditioning is designed
to operate effectively in all sea-
sons, with the windows closed.
It enables you to:
- lower the temperature, in summer,
- increase the effectiveness of the de- misting, in winter above 0 °C.
