AIR BAGS The air bag system has been designed to maximise the safetyof the occupants in the event ofserious collisions. It works in con-junction with the force limitingseat belts. Front air bags These are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driverand in the fascia for the front pas-
senger. They are deployed simul-
taneously, except in cases wherethe passenger air bag is dis-armed. Precautions regarding the passenger air bag disarm the air bag if you install a rear-facing child seat,
activate the air bag for an
adult passenger. Disarming the passenger air bag*
With the ignition off , insert
the ignition key into the pas- senger air bag slot 1and turn
it to the "OFF"position.
As soon as you remove the childseat, turn the air bag switch to the"ON" position, to activate the air
bag again. Disarming check
With the ignition switchedon (2nd notch), illumina-tion of this warning light, accompanied by an audi-
ble signal and the message"Passenger air bag deactivated"
on the multi-function display, indi-cates that the passenger air bagis disarmed (slot in the "OFF"
position). The warning light remains on throughout the disarming process. Side air bags The side air bags are incorporat- ed into the front seat back frame,on the door side and aredeployed independently of each
other, on whichever side the colli-sion occurs.

This system, installed in the rear bumper, detects any obstacle (person,
vehicle, tree, barrier, etc) behind the vehicle. Activation With the engine running, the system is activated when reverse gear is engaged; a bleep indicates that it is active. The proximity information is given by an audible signal, consisting of bleeps which become faster as the vehicle approaches the obstacle. When the distance between the rear of vehicle and the obstacle is less than thirty centimetres, the audible signal becomes continuous. In neutral, the system becomes inactive again.

Recommended lubricants The oils which appear in the table opposite are suitable for most pur-poses. The diagram opposite states the optimum range of viscosity depend-ing on the temperatures at which theoils are to be used. It is also possible to use 'superior quality' synthetic oils. In the absence of semi-synthetic or
synthetic oils, oils of API SH/SJ qualitymay be used by following the 'arduousconditions' servicing schedule whichspecifies shorter service intervals. Do not hesitate to ask for advice
from an approved PEUGEOT dealerto maintain driving pleasure and tominimise the maintenance cost ofyour vehicle. For vehicles outside Europe, please
