cle is supplied to the customer.
To disarm or activate the function: Place the key in the accessories position (1st notch),
Press the end of the lights stalkfor more than two seconds.
Note: in foggy weather, the bright-
ness sensor can detect sufficientlight. Because of this, the lights do
not come on automatically. Do not cover the brightness sen-
sor connected to the rain sensor, located on the windscreen behind
the mirror. It is used for automat-ic switching on of the lights. Operating check Activation Activation of this function is accom- panied by an audible signal and themessage
"Automatic lighting of
the headlamps activated" on the
multi-function display. Note: Manual operation of the lights
stalk always takes priority Disarming Disarming of the function is accom- panied by an audible signal and themessage "Automatic lighting of
the headlamps deactivated" on the
multi-function display. When driving, if this function is
switched off when the headlampswould switch on in automatic mode, the lights remain on. It is howeverpossible to disarm this function and
switch off the lights by:
Ð manually switching off the lights using the lights stalk,
Ð switching off the engine. If the brightness sensor does not
function correctly,
the system acti-

Range The display shows the distance that can still be covered with the fuelremaining in the tank. Note:this figure may rise if there is a
change in driving style or road sur- face, causing a significant drop incurrent fuel consumption. If there are less than 3 litres of fuel in the tank, only three segments will bedisplayed. Average consumption This is the ratio between the amount of fuel consumed and the distancetravelled since the computer was lastreset to zero.
Current fuel consumption This gives the fuel consumption recorded during the last two sec-
onds. This function is only displayedwhen the vehicle is travelling at morethan 12 m.p.h. (20 km/h). Average speed This is obtained by dividing the dis- tance travelled by the period of timethe vehicle has been in use (with theignition on), since the computer waslast reset to zero.Distance travelled This shows the distance travelled since the computer was last reset tozero. After the trip computer has been reset to zero, the range databecomes meaningful only after thevehicle has been in use for a certainperiod. If horizontal segments are displayed instead of figures when driving, con-
tact a PEUGEOT dealer.

TRACTION CONTROL (ASR)
AND DYNAMIC STABILITY
CONTROL (ESP) These systems are linked and com-
plement the ABS.
The ASR system optimises drive to prevent the wheels skidding, by act-ing on the brakes of the drive wheelsand on the engine. It also allows thedirectional stability of the vehicle tobe improved on acceleration. If there is a variation between the tra- jectory followed by the vehicle and
that required by the driver, the ESPsystem automatically acts on theengine and the brake of one or morewheels, in order to put the vehicleback on course.

AIR BAGS
The air bags have been designed to maximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions. They work in conjunction with the
force-limiting seat belts. The elec-tronic detectors register and analyseany abrupt deceleration of the vehi-cle: if the triggering threshold isreached, the air bags inflate instantlyand protect the occupants of thevehicle. Immediately after the impact, the air bags deflate rapidly so that they donot hinder the visibility of the occu-pants nor their exit if necessary fromthe vehicle. The air bags are not deployed in the case of collisions which are not seri-
ous, for which the seat belt is suffi-cient to ensure maximum protection. The seriousness of a collisiondepends on the nature of the obsta-cle and the speed of the vehicle atthe moment of the collision. Air bags only operate when the ignition is switched on. Note:
the gas escaping from the air
bags can be a minor irritant. FRONT AIR BAGSThese are folded in the centre of the steering wheel for the driver and in
the fascia for the front passenger.
They are deployed simultaneously, except in cases where the passen-ger air bag is disarmed.
Front air bag fault If this warning light comes on, accompanied by anaudible signal and the mes-
sage "Air bag fault" on the
multi-function display, contact a
PEUGEOT dealer to have the sys-tem checked. Passenger air bag precautions For a vehicle fitted with a passenger air bag disarming switch:
Ð disarm the airbag if you installa rear-facingchild seat on thefront passengerseat,
Ð arm the air bag for an adult pas-
senger.
For a vehicle not fitted with a pas-senger air bag disarming switch: Ð do not install a rear-fac-ing child seat on thefront passenger seat.
Never place your feet or any objecton the fascia.

message on the multifunction dis-
play. With the ignition on (2nd notch), illumination of this warning lightaccompanied by an audible signaland the message "Passenger
air bag deactivated" on the
multifunction display, indicates thatthe passenger air bag is disarmed(switch in the "OFF"position).
Disarming the passenger air bag*
To ensure the safety of your child, it is essential to disarm the pas-senger air bag when you install arear-facing child seat on the frontpassenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being killed or seriously injured ifthe air bag were to inflate.
With the ignition switched off ,
insert the key into the passenger air bag disarming switch 1, turn it to the
"OFF" position, then remove the
key keeping the slot in this position.
The air bag warning light on theinstrument panel is lit throughout thedisarming process. In the "OFF" position, the passenger
air bag will not be triggered in the event of an impact. As soon as the child seat is removed, turn the air bag slot to the "ON" position
to re-activate the air bag and thusensure the safety of your passenger inthe event of an impact.
* According to destination. SIDE AIR BAGS The side air bags are incorporated into the backs of the front seats, onthe door side. They are deployed independently of
each other, on whichever side thecollision occurs.
Operating check This is confirmed by an indicator light, accompanied by an audiblesignal and a message on the multi-
function display.
If this indicator light comeson, accompanied by anaudible signal and themessage "Air bag fault"
on the multi-function dis-
play, contact a PEUGEOT dealer tohave the system checked.
