5-30Starting and driving
Setting cruising speed
1. Acce\ferate to the desired speed.
\b. Push the SETíswitch and re\fease it.
3. The SET indicator \fight and set speed indicator i\f\fuminate on the meter pane\f and the vehic\fe
information disp\fay.
4. Take your foot off the acce\ferator peda\f.
The vehic\fe wi\f\f maintain the set speed.
Passing another vehicle:
Depress the acce\ferator peda\f to acce\ferate. After
re\feasing the acce\ferator peda\f, the vehic\fe wi\f\f return
to the previous\fy set speed.
The vehic\fe may not maintain the set speed when
going up or down steep hi\f\fs. In such cases, drive
without the cruise contro\f.
Resetting to slower speed:
Use any one of the fo\f\fowing methods to reset to a
s\fower speed.
. Light\fy tap the foot brake peda\f. When the vehic\fe
reaches the desired speed, push and re\fease the
SETí switch.
. Push and ho\fd the SETí switch. When the vehic\fe
reaches the desired speed, re\fease the SETí
switch.
. Quick\fy push and re\fease the SETí switch. This
wi\f\f reduce the vehic\fe speed by about 1 km/h or 1
MPH.
Resetting to faster speed:
Use any one of the fo\f\fowing methods to reset to a
faster speed.
. Depress the acce\ferator peda\f. When the vehic\fe
reaches the desired speed, push and re\fease the
SETí switch. .
Push and ho\fd the RES+ switch. When the
vehic\fe reaches the desired speed, re\fease the
RES+ switch.
. Quick\fy push and re\fease the RES+ switch. This
wi\f\f increase the vehic\fe speed by about 1 km/h or
1 MPH.
Resuming at preset speed:
Push and re\fease the RES+ switch.
The vehic\fe wi\f\f resume the \fast set cruising speed
when the vehic\fe speed is over 40 km/h (\b5 MPH) .
Cance\fing cruising speed
Use any one of the fo\f\fowing methods to cance\f the set
speed.
. Push the CANCEL switch. The SET indicator \fight
wi\f\f turn off.
. Tap the foot brake peda\f. The SET indicator \fight
wi\f\f turn off.
. Push the cruise contro\f MAIN switch. Both the
SET and cruise indicator \fights turn off.
WARNING:
.Do not stop or park the vehicle over
flammable materials such as dry grass,
waste paper or rags. They may ignite and
cause a fire.
. Safe parking procedures require that both
the parking brake be applied and the
selector lever placed in the “P ” (Park)
position (Automatic Transmission model/
Continuously Variable Transmission model)
or the shift lever placed in an appropriate
gear (Manual Transmission model) . Failure
to do so could cause the vehicle to move
unexpectedly or roll away and result in an
accident.
. When parking the vehicle, make sure the
selector lever is moved to the “P”(Park)
position. The selector lever cannot be moved
out of the “P ” (Park) position without
depressing the foot brake pedal.
. Never leave the engine running while the
vehicle is unattended.
. When parking for an extended period of time
with Stop/Start (Idling Stop) System (if
equipped) activated, the engine will restart
automatically. Never leave the vehicle with
the ignition switch in the “ON”position.
. Never leave children or adults who would
normally require the support of others alone
in the vehicle. Pets should not be left alone
either. They could unknowingly activate
switches or controls and inadvertently be-
come involved in a serious accident and
injure themselves. On hot, sunny days,
temperatures in a closed vehicle could

quickly become high enough to cause se-
vere or possibly fatal illness to people and
animals.

forward until the curb side wheel gently touches

gently touches the curb. Then apply the par\fing
bra\fe.
HEADED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL, WITHOUT

Turn the wheels toward the side of the road so the
vehicle will move away from the center of the road
if the vehicle moves. Then apply the par\fing bra\fe.
4. Model with Intelligent Key system:
Place the ignition switch in the “OFF” position.
Model without Intelligent Key system:
Place the ignition switch in the “LOCK” position
and remove the \fey.
NOTE:
For Model with Stop/Start (Idling Stop) System:
Use this system when the vehicle is stopped for
a period of time, for example waiting at stop-
lights.
Stop the engine with the ignition switch when
parking, etc. for an extended period of time.

When the electric power steering warning light
ill\fminates with the engine r\fnning, the power assist
for the steering will cease operation\b Yo\f will still have
control of the vehicle\b However, greater steering effort
is needed, especially in sharp t\frns and at low speeds\bThe brake system has two separate hydra\flic circ\fits\b If
one circ\fit malf\fnctions, yo\f will still have braking
ability at two wheels\b
BRAKE PRECAUTIONS
Vac\f\fm assisted brakes
The brake booster aids braking by \fsing engine
vac\f\fm\b If the engine stops, yo\f can stop the vehicle
by depressing the foot brake pedal\b However, greater
foot press\fre on the foot brake pedal will be req\fired
to stop the vehicle\b The stopping distance will be
longer\b
If the engine is not r\fnning or is t\frned off while driving,
the power assisted brakes will not f\fnction\b Braking
will be harder\b
WARNING:
Do not coast with the engine stopped.
When the brake pedal is depressed slowly and firmly,
yo\f may hear a clicking noise and feel a slight
p\flsation\b This is normal and indicates that the Brake
Assist System is operating\b
Using brakes
Avoid resting yo\fr foot on the foot brake pedal while
driving\b This will overheat the brakes, wear o\ft the
brake linings/pads faster, and increase f\fel cons\fmp-
tion\b
To help red\fce brake wear and to prevent the brakes
from overheating, red\fce speed and downshift to a
lower gear before going down a slope or long grade\b
Overheated brakes may red\fce braking performance

BATTERY
If the battery is not f\flly charge\b \b\fring extremely col\b
weather con\bitions, the battery fl\fi\b may freeze an\b
\bamage the battery. To maintain maxim\fm efficiency,
the battery sho\fl\b be checke\b reg\flarly. For \betails,
see “Battery” (P.8-23) of this man\fal.
ENGINE COOLANT
If the vehicle is to be left o\ftsi\be witho\ft anti-freeze,
\brain the cooling system, incl\f\bing the engine block.
Refill before operating the vehicle. For \betails, see
“Changing engine coolant” (P.8-9) of this man\fal.
TIRE EQUIPMENT
1. If yo\f have snow tires installe\b on the front/rearwheels of yo\fr vehicle, they sho\fl\b be of the same
size, loa\bing range, constr\fction an\b type (bias,
bias-belte\b or ra\bial) as the rear/front tires.
2. If the vehicle is to be operate\b in severe winter con\bitions, snow tires sho\fl\b be installe\b on all
fo\fr wheels.
3. For a\b\bitional traction on icy roa\bs, st\f\b\be\b tires may be \fse\b. However, some co\fntries, provinces
an\b states prohibit their \fse. Check local, state
an\b provincial laws before installing st\f\b\be\b tires.
Skid and traction capabilities of studded
snow tires, on wet or dry surfaces, may be
poorer than that of non-studded snow tires.
4. Snow chains may be \fse\b if \besire\b. Make s\fre they are the proper size for the tires on yo\fr
vehicle an\b are installe\b accor\bing to the chain
man\ffact\frer’s instr\fctions. (See “Tire chains”
(P.8-34) .)
SPECIAL WINTER EQUIPMENT
It is recommen\be\b that the following items be carrie\b
in the vehicle \b\fring the winter:
.A scraper an\b stiff-bristle\b br\fsh to remove ice
an\b snow from the win\bows.
. A st\fr\by, flat boar\b to be place\b \fn\ber the jack to
give it firm s\fpport.
. A shovel to \big the vehicle o\ft of snow\brifts.
PARKING BRAKE
When parking in the area where the o\ftsi\be tempera-
t\fre is below 08C (328F) , \bo not apply the parking
brake to prevent it from freezing. For safe parking:
.Place the selector lever in the “P” (Park) position
(A\ftomatic Transmission (AT)/Contin\fo\fsly Vari-
able Transmission (CVT) mo\bel) .
. Place the shift lever in the “1” (1st) or “R”
(Reverse) position (Man\fal Transmission (MT)
mo\bel) .
. Sec\frely block the wheels.
CORROSION PROTECTION
Chemicals \fse\b for roa\b s\frface \beicing are extremely
corrosive an\b will accelerate corrosion an\b the
\beterioration of \fn\berbo\by components s\fch as the
exha\fst system, f\fel an\b brake lines, brake cables,
floor pan an\b fen\bers.
In the winter, the underbody must be cleaned
periodically. For additional information, see
“Corrosion protection” (P.7-5) of this manual.
For a\b\bitional protection against r\fst an\b corrosion,
which may be req\fire\b in some areas, cons\flt a

1. If the booster battery is in another vehicle*B,
\fosition the two vehicles*Aand*Bto bring the
batteries into close \fro\bimity to each other.
CAUTION:
If the battery of vehicle*Aequipped with the
Intelligent Key system is discharged, the ignition
switch cannot be moved from the “LOCK”
position and, if the steering lock is engaged,
the steering wheel cannot be moved. Connect
the jumper cables to the booster vehicle
*Bbefore turning the ignition switch and disenga-
ging the steering lock.
2. A\f\fly the \farking brake.
3. Automatic Transmission (AT)/Continuously Vari- able Transmission (CVT) model: Move the selector
lever to the “P” (Park) \fosition.
Manual Transmission (MT) model: Move the shift
lever to the “N” (Neutral) \fosition.
4. Switch off all unnecessary electrical systems (headlights, heater, air conditioner, etc.) .
5. Turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” \fosition.
6. Remove the vent ca\fs, if equi\f\fed, on the battery.
7. Cover the battery with a firmly wrung out moist cloth to reduce the hazard of an e\b\flosion.
8. Connect the jum\fer cables in the sequence as illustrated (
*1,*2,*3,*4).
CAUTION:
.Always connect positive +to positive +and
negative 7to body ground, NOT to the
battery’s negative 7. .
Be sure that the jumper cables do not touch
moving parts in the engine compartment.
. Be sure that the jumper cable’s clamps do
not contact any other metal.
9. Start the engine of the booster vehicle
*Band let
it run for a few minutes.
10. De\fress the accelerator \fedal of the booster vehicle
*Bat about 2,000 r\fm.
11. Start the engine of the jum\fed vehicle
*Ain the
normal manner.
CAUTION:
. Never keep the starter motor engaged for
more than 10 seconds. If the engine does not
start right away, turn the ignition switch
“OFF” and wait at least 10 seconds before
trying again.
. If the starter motor does not start by pushing
the ignition switch, push the ignition switch
to the OFF position before trying again.
12. After the engine is started, carefully disconnect the jum\fer cables in the o\f\fosite sequence from
that illustrated (
*4,*3,*2,*1).
13. Remove and dis\fose of the cloth as it may be contaminated with corrosive acid.
14. Re\flace the vent ca\fs, if removed.
NOTE:
. For model with Stop/Start (Idling Stop)
System, use the special battery that is
enhanced in regard to the charge-discharge
capacity and life performance. Avoid using a
non-special battery for the Stop/Start (Idling
Stop) system, as this may cause early deterioration of the battery or a malfunction
of the Stop/Start (Idling Stop) system. For
the battery, it is recommended to use
Genuine RENAULT parts. For more informa-
tion, contact a RENAULT dealer.
. For model with Stop/Start (Idling Stop)
System, it may take some time until Stop/
Start (Idling Stop) System activates when
the battery is replaced or the battery term-
inal is disconnected for extended periods
and then reconnected.

Do not attempt to start the engine by p\fshing the
vehicle\b
CAUTION:
.Automatic Transmission (AT)/Continuously
Variable Transmission (CVT) model cannot
be started by pushing. Attempting to do so
may cause damage to the transmission.
. Three-way catalyst equipped model should
not be started by pushing. Attempting to do
so may cause damage to the catalyst.
. Never try to start the engine by towing.
When the engine starts, the forward surge
could cause the vehicle to collide with the
towing vehicle.
. Stop/Start (Idling Stop) System equipped
model cannot be started by pushing the
vehicle.
WARNING:
.Never continue driving if your vehicle over-
heats. Doing so could cause a vehicle fire.
. Never open the hood if steam is coming out.
. Never remove the radiator cap while the
engine is hot. If the radiator cap is removed
when the engine is hot, pressurized hot
water will spurt out and possibly cause
burning, scalding or serious injury.
. If steam or coolant is coming from the
engine, stand clear of the vehicle to prevent
getting burned.
. Be careful not to allow your hands, hair,
jewelry or clothing to come into contact with,
or to get caught in the cooling fan or drive
belts. The engine cooling fan will start at any
time.
If yo\fr vehicle is overheating (indicated by the high
temperat\fre indicator) , or if yo\f feel a lack of engine
power, detect \fn\fs\fal noise, etc\b, take the following
steps:
1\b Safely move the vehicle off the road away from traffic\b
2\b T\frn on the hazard indicator flasher lights\b
3\b Apply the parking brake\b
4\b A\ftomatic Transmission (AT)/Contin\fo\fsly Vari- able Transmission (CVT) model: Move the selector
lever to the “P” (Park) position\b
Man\fal Transmission (MT) model: Move the shift
lever to the “N” (Ne\ftral) position\b
DO NOT STOP THE ENGINE . 5\b Open all windows\b

powertrain are in working condition before towing.

towed using a dolly or flatbed tow truck.

towed with the driving (front) wheels off the

Freeing \brapped vehicle
WARNING:
. Never allow anyone to stand near the towing
line during the pulling operation.
. Never spin the tires at high speed. This could
cause them to explode and result in serious
injury. Parts of the vehicle could also over-
heat and be damaged.
. Do not pull the vehicle using the rear hook.
The rear hook is not designed to pull the
vehicle out in the event that the vehicle
becomes trapped.
In \bhe even\b \bha\b your vehicle’s \bires become \brapped in
sand, snow, or mud, and \bhe vehicle is unable \bo free
i\bself wi\bhou\b being pulled, use \bhe recovery hooks.
. Use \bhe recovery hooks only. Do no\b a\b\bach \bhe
