Towing with all wheels on the ground
WARNING
Never turn the ignition switch to the “LOCK” position while the
vehicle is being towed because the steering wheel and the direc- tion of the wheels will be locked. Remember that the brake booster and power steering do not
function when the engine is not running. Because the engine isturned off, it will take greater effort to operate the brake pedal andsteering wheel.
CAUTION
If transmission failure occurs, transport your vehicle on a flat-
bed truck. For vehicles with automatic transmission, the traveling speed
must be limited to less than 20 mph (30 km/h) and the traveling
distance to less than 31 miles (50 km). For greater speeds and
distances, transport your vehicle on a flat-bed truck.

2. Release the p arking b rake and p ut the transmissio n in neutral.

Moonroof — if the moonroof cannot be closed
If the moonroof c annot b e c losed with the moonroof switc h, you c an
c lose the moonroof manually.

1. Take out the hex-head ed wrenc h from the g love c om p artment and
sc rewd river from the tool b ag .

the lens with a
reg ular sc rewd river, then remove the switc h b od y re taining sc rews
and take off the moonroof switc h.

To op en the hood :
1. Pull the hood release knob und er the instrument panel.
2. Release the sec ond ary hood release loc ated und er the front g rille b y
moving the lever toward the left. Lift up the hood , release the hood p rop
from its retainer and p ut the end of the hood p rop into the slot in the
hood .
To c lose the hood :
1. Lift the hood slig htly and remove the hood p rop f rom the slot in the
hood and return the p rop to its retainer.
2. Lower the hood until it ap p roac hes ab out 6 in. (1 5 c m) from the
c losed p osition and let it d rop .
3. After c losing the hood , b e sure the hood is sec ur ely loc ked .
If this d oes not c lose the hood , release it from a slig htly hig her p osition.
Do not p ush the hood forc ib ly to c lose it. It c ould d eform the metal.

6. Remove two c lip s at the front of the c over und er the oil filter.
7. Slid e the c over toward the vehic le front to remov e it.
8. Remove the oil filter with an oil filter wrenc h.
9. Before installing a new oil filter, ap p ly a thin c oat of eng ine oil to the
seal.
10. Clean the rub b er seal seating area of the lower c rank c ase and
install the oil filter b y hand turning . Be c areful not to twist or d amag e
the seal.
11. Tig hten it ap p roximately two-third s of a turn a fter the seal makes
c ontac t with the lower c rank c ase.
CAUTION
Never over tighten the oil filter because that can result in an oilleak.

When ad d ing oil, d ifferent b rand s may b e used tog et her as long as
they are the same API c lassific ation and SAE visc os ity as those rec -
ommend ed b y SUBARU.
Eng ine oil visc osity (thic kness) affec ts fuel ec ono my. Oils of lower vis-
c osity p rovid e b etter fuel ec onomy. However, in hot weather, oil of
hig her visc osity is req uired to p rop erly lub ric ate the eng ine.
