The spark ignition system in your Toyota meets all require-
ments of the Canadian Interference −Causing Equipment
Standard.
Installation of a mobile twoway radio system
As the installation of a mobile two −way radio system in
your vehicle could affect electronic systems such as Toyota
hybrid system, cruise control system, electronically con-
trolled brake system, vehicle dynamics integrated manage-
ment, SRS airbag system and seat belt pretensioner sys-
tem, be sure to check with your Toyota dealer for
precautionary measures or special instructions regarding
installation.
High voltage parts and cables on the hybrid vehicles
emit approximately the same amount of electromag-
netic waves as the conventional gasoline powered
vehicles or home electronic appliances despite of
their electromagnetic shieldings.
Unwanted noise may occur in the reception of the
mobile twoway radio.

mately the same amount of electro-
magnetic waves as the convention-
al gasoline powered vehicles or
home electronic appliances despite

Unwanted noise may occur in the

If the vehicle is parked for a long
time, the hybrid battery will dis-
charge gradually. To keep the hy-
brid battery in good condition,
drive the vehicle at least once ev-
ery several months for at least 30
minutes or 10 miles. If the hybrid
battery becomes fully discharged
and the vehicle will not start even
with a jump start to the 12 volt
battery, contact your Toyota dealer-
ship.
CAUTION
The driver should pay special atten-
tion to pedestrians when the vehicle
is powered only by the traction mo-
tor. Because there is no engine
noise, the pedestrians may mis-
judge the vehicle’s movement.
When you leave your vehicle, be
sure to turn off the hybrid system.
Be sure to put the transmission in
the “P” position because the ve-
hicle can move when the “READY”
light is on even if the engine is
stopped. When the “READY” light is
on, do not leave your vehicle in a
shift position other than the “P”
and “N” positions. The vehicle will
creep and start abruptly if the ac-
celerator pedal is depressed by
mistake. This may cause death or
serious injury.

ically set when the “POWER” switch is
turned off.
The indicator light will start flashing to
show that the system is set.
If any of the following indicator conditions
occur, contact your Toyota dealer.

The indicator light does not start flash-
ing when the “POWER” switch is
turned off.
The indicator light flashes inconsistent-
ly.The engine immobilizer system is automat-
ically canceled when you enter the vehicle
carrying an electronic key and press the
“POWER” switch.
Even if the key battery is discharged, the
hybrid system can be turned on. See
“Smart key system” on page 32 in this
Section.
When the system is canceled, the indica-
tor light will go off.
For your Toyota dealer to make you a
new key with built
−in transponder chip,
your dealer will need your key number
and electronic key. However, there is a
limit to the number of additional keys your
Toyota dealer can make for you.

2 seconds.
The beep may not sound if the key is on
the instrument panel, on the package tray,
in the glove box or on the floor, etc.
The answerback function (the turn signal
flash and the beep) can be disabled. For
details, contact your Toyota dealer.Unlocking operation
Grasp the front outside door handle
(sensors are located on the underside
of the door handles). Only the driver’s
door unlocks when the driver ’s door
handle is grasped. All the doors unlock
when the front passenger ’s door handle
is grasped. At this time two beeps will
be heard and the turn signal lights
flash twice.
The doors may not unlock if the handle
is grasped too quickly. Be sure to confirm
that the doors are unlocked before pulling
the door handle. If the doors do not open
when the handle is pulled, return the han-
dle to its original position. Wearing gloves may slow response time.
For three seconds after the doors have
been locked, the doors cannot be re
−un-
locked via the smart key system.
The answerback function (the turn signal
flash and the beep) can be disabled. For
details, contact your Toyota dealer.
When you enter the entry function actua-

come on for about 15 seconds. After the
light comes on, all the side doors can be
unlocked by grasping the outside door
handle.
You have 60 seconds to open a door after
using the unlocking function. If a door is
not opened by then, all the doors will be
automatically locked again.
The automatic locking time can also be
set to 30 seconds. For details, contact
your Toyota dealer.
The doors may unlock if the key is within
the entry function actuation area and a
large amount of water splashes on the
door handle (for example, in the rain or
in a car wash).
When you enter the entry function actua-
tion area, the illuminated entry system will
be activated. (For further information, see
“Illuminated entry system” on page 127 in
Section 1 −5.)
