before operating the shift lever,
and then release it slowly.
If it is difficult to shift in reverse,

Parking brake
Sets the parking brake
Fully pull the parking brake while
depressing the brake pedal.
At this time, the brake system
warning light will come on.
Releases the parking brake
Slightly raise the lever and lower it
completely while pressing the but-
ton.
At this time, the brake system
warning light will go off.

■Before driving
Fully release the parking brake.
Driving the vehicle with the parking brake set will lead to brake components
overheating, which may affect braking performance and increase brake
wear.

Horn
To sound the horn, press on or
close to the mark.
■After adjusting the steering wheel
Make sure that the steering wheel is securely locked.
The horn may not sound if the steering wheel is not securely locked.

The headlights can be operated manually or automatically.

With the headlights on, push
the lever away from you to turn
on the high beams.
Pull the lever toward you to the
center position to turn the high
beams off.
Pull the lever toward you and
release it to flash the high
beams once.
You can flash the high beams with the headlights on or off.
The level of the headlights can be adjusted according to the number
of passengers and the loading condition of the vehicle.Raises the level of the head-

Guide to dial settings

Daytime running light system (if equipped)
To make your vehicle more visible to other drivers, the headlights turn on
automatically whenever the engine is started. The daytime running light sys-
tem is not designed for use at night.
■ Headlight control sensor (if equipped)
■ Light reminder buzzer
A buzzer sounds when the key is removed and the driver’s door is opened
while the lights are turned on.
■ Customization that can be configured at any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional (vehicles
with headlight control sensor)
Setting of the light sensor sensitivity can be changed.

The sensor may not function properly if an
object is placed on the sensor, or anything
that blocks the sensor is affixed to the
windshield.
Doing so interferes with the sensor
detecting the level of ambient light and
may cause the automatic headlight sys-
tem to malfunction.
