button into the lock position,
then closing the door with the
electronic key still inside the
vehicle.
Retrieve the electronic key
from the vehicle and lock
the doors again.

unlocked with the mechanical
key and then the power
switch was pressed, the elec-
tronic key could not be
detected in the vehicle.
• The electronic key could not be detected in the vehicle
even after the power switch
was pressed two consecu-
tive times.
 Touch the electronic key to
the power switch while
depressing the brake
pedal.
Once
An attempt was made to start
the hybrid system with the shift
lever in an incorrect position.
Shift the shift lever to P
and start the hybrid sys-
tem.

Power was turned off due to the
automatic power off function.
Next time when starting
the hybrid system,
increase the engine speed
slightly and maintain that
level for approximately 5
minutes to recharge the
12-volt battery.

The electronic key has a low
battery.
Replace the electronic key
battery. ( P. 506)

The driver’s door was opened
and closed with the power
switch turned off and then the
power switch was put in
ACCESSORY mode twice with-
out the hybrid system being
started.
Press the power switch
while depressing the brake
pedal.
During a hybrid system starting
procedure in the event that the
electronic key was not function-
ing properly ( P. 580), the
power switch was touched with
the electronic key.
 Press the power switch
within 10 seconds of the
buzzer sounding.

The steering lock could not be
released within 3 seconds of
the power switch being
pressed.
Press the power switch
while depressing the brake
pedal and moving the
steering wheel left and
right.

If you have a flat tire
●Stop the vehicle on a hard, flat surface.
● Set the parking brake.
● Shift the shift lever to P.
● Stop the hybrid system.
● Turn on the emergency flashers. ( P. 526)
● For vehicles with power back door: Turn off the power back door
system. ( P. 1 1 6 )
Your vehicle is equipped with a spare tire. The flat tire can be
replaced with the spare tire.
For details about tires: P. 4 8 9
WARNING
■If you have a flat tire
Do not continue driving with a flat tire.
Driving even a short distance with a fl at tire can damage the tire and the
wheel beyond repair, which could result in an accident.

WARNING
■Using the tire jack
Observe the following precautions.
Improper use of the tire jack may cause the vehicle to suddenly fall off
the jack, leading to death or serious injury.
●Do not use the tire jack for any purpose other than replacing tires or
installing and removing tire chains.
●Only use the tire jack that comes with this vehicle for replacing a flat
tire.
Do not use it on other vehicles, and do not use other tire jacks for
replacing tires on this vehicle.
●Put the jack properly in its jack point.
●Do not put any part of your body und er the vehicle while it is supported
by the jack.
●Do not start the hybrid system or drive the vehicle while the vehicle is
supported by the jack.
●Do not raise the vehicle while someone is inside.
●When raising the vehicle, do not put an object on or under the jack.
●Do not raise the vehicle to a height greater than that required to
replace the tire.
●Use a jack stand if it is necessary to get under the vehicle.
●Stop the vehicle on firm, flat and level ground, firmly set the parking
brake and shift the shift lever to P. Block the wheel diagonally opposite
to the one being changed if necessary.
●When lowering the vehicle, make su re that there is no-one near the
vehicle. If there are people nearby, warn them vocally before lowering.

Vehicles with full-size spare
tire: Turn the knob of each clip
on the rear deck board to
unlock.
Remove the rear deck board.
Take out the jack.
Unclasp the hook and remove
the jack.
When stowing the jack, wind back
the jack until it does not move, fix it
with the rubber band and then stow
it.

Slightly loosen the wheel nuts
(one turn).
Turn the tire jack portion by
hand until the notch of the jack
is in contact with the jack point.
The jack point guides are located
under the rocker panel. They
indicate the jack point positions.
Assemble the jack handle
extension.
Raise the vehicle until the tire is
slightly raised off the ground.

Remove all the wheel nuts and
the tire.
When resting the tire on the
ground, place the tire so that the
wheel design faces up to avoid
scratching the wheel surface.

WARNING
■Replacing a flat tire
●Do not touch the disc wheels or the area around the brakes immedi-
ately after the vehicle has been driven.
After the vehicle has been driven the disc wheels and the area around
the brakes will be extremely hot. Touc hing these areas with hands, feet
or other body parts while changing a tire, etc. may result in burns.
●Failure to follow these precautions could cause the wheel nuts to
loosen and the tire to fall off, resulting in death or serious injury.
• Have the wheel nuts tightened with a torque wrench to 76 ft•lbf (103
N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) as soon as possible after changing wheels.
• When installing a tire, only use wh eel nuts that have been specifi-
cally designed for that wheel.
• If there are any cracks or deforma tions in the bolt screws, nut
threads or bolt holes of the wheel, have the vehicle inspected by
your Toyota dealer.
• When installing the wheel nuts, be sure to install them with the tapered ends facing inward. ( P. 502)
●For vehicles with power back door: In cases such as when replacing
tires, make sure to turn of f the power back door system ( P. 1 1 6 ) .
Failure to do so may cause the back door to operate unintentionally if
the power back door switch is a ccidentally touched, resulting in hands
and fingers being caught and injured.
