CAUTION
Caution regarding interference with electronic devices
People with implanted pacemakers or cardiac defibrillators should main-
tain a reasonable distance between themselves and the smart entry &
start system antennas. (P. 43)
The radio waves may affect the operation of such devices. If necessary,
the entry function can be disabled. Ask any authorized Toyota dealer or
repairer, or another duly qualified and equipped professional for details,
such as the frequency of radio waves and timing of emitting the radio
waves. Then, consult your doctor to see if you should disable the entry
function.
User of any electrical medical device other than implanted pacemakers
and implanted cardiac defibrillators should consult the manufacturer of the
device for information about its operation under the influence of radio
waves.
Radio waves could have unexpected effects on the operation of such
medical devices.
Ask any authorized Toyota dealer or repairer, or another duly qualified and
equipped professional for details for disabling the entry function.

NOTICE
Conditions affecting operation
The smart entry & start system uses weak radio waves. In the following situ-
ations, the communication between the electronic key and the vehicle may
be affected, preventing the smart entry & start system and wireless remote
control from operating properly. (Way of coping P. 525)
When the electronic key battery is depleted
Near a TV tower, electric power plant, gas station, radio station, large dis-
play, airport or other facility that generates strong radio waves or electrical
noise
When a portable radio, cellular phone, cordless phone or other wireless
communication device is in the vicinity
When the electronic key has come into contact with, or is covered by a
metallic object, such as the following
• Cards on which metal sheets such as foil are attached
• Cigarette boxes in which foil is used
• Metallic wallets or bags
• Coins
• Hot packs or pocket warmers
• Optical media such as CDs and DVDs
When other wireless keys that emit radio waves are used in the vicinity
When carrying the electronic key together with the following devices
• Another vehicle’s electronic key or a wireless key that emits radio
waves
• Personal computers or PDAs
• Digital audio players
• Hand-held game consoles
If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to the
rear window

Wireless remote control
The wireless remote control can be used to lock and unlock the vehi-
cle from outside the vehicle.

Operation signals
The emergency flashers flash to indicate that the doors have been locked/
unlocked. (Locked: Once; Unlocked: Twice)
Door lock buzzer (vehicles with smart entry & start system)
If the door is not fully closed, a buzzer sounds continuously for 10 seconds if
an attempt to lock the door is made. Fully close the door to stop the buzzer,
and lock the vehicle once more.
Alarm (if equipped)
Using the wireless remote control to lock the doors will set the alarm system.

Key battery depletion
Vehicles without smart entry & start system
If the wireless remote control function does not operate, the battery may
be depleted. Replace the battery when necessary. (P. 432)

Security feature
If a door is not opened within approximately 30 seconds after the vehicle is
unlocked, the security feature automatically locks the vehicle again.

The wireless remote control function may not operate normally in the fol-
lowing situations.
Near a TV tower, radio station, electric power plant, airport or other
facility that generates strong radio waves
When carrying a portable radio, cellular phone or other wireless com-
munication device
When multiple wireless keys are in the vicinity
When the wireless key has come into contact with, or is covered by a
metallic object
When a wireless key (that emits radio waves) is being used nearby
When the wireless key has been left near an electrical appliance such
as a personal computer
When the wireless key battery is depleted
If window tint with a metallic content or metallic objects are attached to
the rear window
