Unlocking/locking w ith the key
In the event that the power locking system fails,
the driver's door can locked and unlocked using
the door lock.

When locking the vehicle with the central locking
switch, the following applies:
- Opening the door and the luggage compart­
ment lid from the
outside is not possible (for
security such as when stopped at a light).
- The LED in the central locking switch turns on
when all doors are closed and locked .
- Front doors: you can open the doors individual­
ly from the inside by pulling the door handle.
- Rear doors: pu ll on the door hand le
once to un­
lock the door. Pull on the door handle
again to
open the door .
- In the event of a crash with a irbag deployment ,
the doors unlock automat ically to allow access
to the vehicle.
_&. WARNING
-The power locking switch works with the ig ­
nition off and automatically locks the entire
vehicle when the
1§) button is pressed.
- The central locking switch is inoperative
when the vehicle is locked from the outside.
- Locked doors make it more difficult for
emergency workers to get into the vehicle,
which puts lives at risk. Do not leave anyone
behind in the vehicle, especially children.

Your vehicle will lock automatically at a speed
of 9 mph (15 km/h)

Electronic immobilizer
The immobilizer prevents unauthorized use of
your vehicle.
A microch ip in the key automat ically deactivates
the electronic immob ilizer when the key is locat­
ed in the vehicle. If yo u remove the key from the
ve hicle, the electro nic immobilize r activates
again a utomat ica lly.

A lways take the key w ith you whenever you
leave your veh icle. The electronic immobilizer
can be deactivated with the key, so this could make it possible for unauthorized persons to
start the engine and operate vehi cle systems
such as the power windows or sun roof. This
can increase the ris k of serious injury .
(D Tips
-The veh icle cannot be started if an unau­
tho rized key is used. It may not be possib le
to start the veh icle unde r ce rtain c ircum­
stances, for examp le if there is ano ther ra­
dio module like the key from another vehi ­
cle or a transponder on the same keychai n.

Safety central locking

Sa fety central locking provides the possib ility , to
only un lock the dr iver 's door and the fuel filler
door . The rest of the vehicle remains locked .

The emergency lock on the other doors is located
on the side of the front passenger's and rear
doors. It is only visible when the door is open.
~ Pull the cover cap out of the opening .
~ Insert the key bit in the slot inside and turn the
key all the way to the right (right door) or left
(left door).
Once the door has been closed, it can no longer
be opened from the outside. The door can be un ­
locked and opened from the inside by pulling the
door handle once.
If the child safety lock on the rear doors is act i­
vated, pull the inner door handle first. Then you
can open the door from the outside.

-After closing the luggage compartment lid,
make sure that it is latched. Otherwise the
luggage compartment lid could suddenly
open when driv ing, which increases the risk
of an accident.

- Never drive with the luggage compartment
lid ajar or open, because poisonous gases
can enter the vehicle interior and create the
risk of asphyxiation .
- Never leave your vehicle unattended when
the luggage compartment lid is open. A
child could climb into the vehicle thro ugh
the luggage compartment. If the luggage
compartment lid was then closed, the child
would be trapped in the vehicle and unable
to es cape. To reduce the risk of inju ry, do
not allow ch ildre n to p lay in or around the
vehicle. A lways keep the luggage compart­
ment lid and the doors closed when the ve­
hicle is not in use.
- Always make sure no one is in the luggage
compartment lid's range of motion when it
is closing, especially near the h inges. Fin­
gers or hands could be pinched .

-When the vehicle is locked, the luggage
compartment lid can be unlocked separately by p ressing the
l.::s l button on the remote
control key. The luggage compartment lid l ocks automatically when it is closed again .
- In case of an emergency or a faulty handle,
the luggage compartment lid can be opened

from opening from the inside.

til the driver's door or fron t passenger's
door has bee n opened.
- Pay careful attention when closi ng the w in­
dows. It co uld cause injury by p inch ing .
- When locking the vehicle from outside, the
ve hicle must be unoccup ied si nce the win­
dows can no longe r be o pened in an emer­
gency.
@ Tips
A fter tu rning the ignition off you can st ill
open and close the windows for approximate­
ly 10 seconds. The power windows are not
sw itched off unti l the drive r's doo r or front
passe nger 's doo r has been opened.
Convenience opening /closing
Wi th the convenience ope ning/closing func tion,
yo u ca n cen tral ly and easily open the windows
and the panorama sun roof * from the outs ide.
Convenience opening

A WARNING
-Never close the windows or panorama sun­
roof* careless ly or in an uncontrolled man­
ner, because this increases the risk of injury .
- For security reasons, the windows can only
be opened with the remote control key at a
maximum d istance of approximately 6 feet
(2 mete rs) from the vehicle.
- Pay attention when using the lock cylinder
to close the windows and the panorama
s u nroof* so that no one is pinched. Closing
stops when the key is moved into the start­
ing position .
Correcting power window malfunctions
-
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the one­
touch up and down feature must be activated
again.
.. Pull the power window sw itch until the w indow
is comp letely raised.
... Release the sw itch and pull it agai n for at least
one second.
Panorama roof

The button has two stages . In the second stage,
the roof automatically runs to the end position
(open/closed) when the button is operated brief­
ly. The movement can be stopped by pressing the
button.
@ Tilting and sliding
.. To tilt the sunroof completely, press the switch
briefly to the second level.
.. To close the roof completely, pull the button
down briefly to the second level or s lide the
button forward briefly to the second level

the switch in the first level until the desired po­
sition is reached .

A wind def lector integrated in the panorama sun­
roof adapts automatically to the sunroof posi­
tion. Th is reduces wind noise to a minimum in all
panorama s unroof positions.
You can sti ll operate the panorama sunroof for
about 10 minutes after the ignit ion is switched
off. The switch is deactivated once the driver's or
front passenger's door is opened.
Sun blind
The sun shade can be opened and closed manual­
l y, depending on the position of the panorama
sunroof. The sun s hade can be opened partially.
A WARNING
Be caref ul when closing the panoramic sun­
roof - otherwise serious injury could result! Al­
ways take the ignition key with you when leav-
-
ing the veh icle. ti,.

Lights and Vision
Instrument illumination
The brightness of the instrument cluster and the
center console can be adjusted .

Requirement: the light must be switched on.
~ Press the knob to release it .
~ Turn the knob toward"-" or"+" to reduce or in­
crease the brightness.
~ Press the knob again to return it to its original
position.
(D Tips
The needles and gauges in the instrument cluster illuminate when the headlights are off
and the ignition is switched one. The illumina­
tion reduces automatically and eventually
turns off as brightness outside decreases.
This function reminds the driver to turn the
headlights on at the appropriate time.
Vision

Turn the knob to the desired position:

Front passenger's exterior mirror tilt
function*
To help you see the curb when backing into a
parking space, the surface of the mirror tilts
slightly. For this to happen, the knob must be in
the position for the front passenger's outside mirror.
You can adjust the tilted mirror surface by turn­ ing the knob in the desired direction . When you
move out of reverse and into another gear, the
new mirror position is stored and assigned to the
key you are using.
The mirror goes back into its original position
once you drive forward faster than 9 mph (15 km/h) or turn the ignition off.
.&, WARNING
Curved mirror surfaces (convex) enlarge the
field of vision. However, they make objects in the mirror appear smaller and further away.
Your may estimate incorrectly when you use
these mirrors to gauge your distance from the
vehicles behind you when changing lanes -ac­
cident risk!
(D Note
- Applies to vehicles with power folding out­
side mirrors*: if the mirror housing was
moved by outside forces (such as an impact
when maneuvering), you must use the pow­ er folding function to fold the mirror all the
way out. You will hear a loud noise when the
mirrors are latched back in place. The mirror
housing must not be moved back into place
by hand because this would impair the func­
tion of the mirror mechanism.

Power seat adjustment
Applies to vehicles: with power adjustable seats

up/down. To adjust the front seat cushion, press
t he fron t button up/down. To adjust the rear seat

@ -lengthening/shortening the upper thigh sup­
port* : lift the grip handle.
A WARNING
- Only adjust the front seat with when the ve­
hicle is stationary. Otherwise, this increases
the risk of an accident
- The power adjustment for the front seats al­
so works with the ignition switched off or
with the ignition key removed. For this rea­
son, children should never be left unattend­
ed in the vehicle - they could be injured!
- Exercise caution when adjusting the seat
height. Unsupervised or careless seat ad­
justment can pinch fingers or hands causing
injuries .
- The front seat backrests must not be re­
clined too far back when driving, because
this impairs the effectiveness of the safety
belts and airbag system, which increases
the risk of injury.
Seats and storage
-To reduce the risk of injury during sudden
braking or in a collision, the driver and front
passenger should not have their backrests in
the reclined position while driving or riding .
The safety belts and airbag system can pro­
vide the greatest protection possible when
the backrests are in the upright position and
the safety belts are worn correctly. The
more a backrest is reclined, the greater the
risk of injury due to an incorrect seating po­
sition and safety belt position.
Front center armrest
Applies to vehicles: with front center a rm rest
The center armrest can be adjusted to several
l e ve ls.

the top notch and fold it back down. Then
lift
the armrest to the desired position, if necessa­

Please note that the driver 's ability to move his or
arm may be restricted when the armrest is folded
down. Because of this, the armrest should not be
folded down during city driving .
The armrest can slide forward and back.
There is a storage compartment under the arm­
rest .

Cigarette lighter

The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source when it is absol utely necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter only works when the ig­
ni tion is switched on. Inco rrect usage can lead
to serious inj uries or burns. To reduce the ris k
of injuries, never leave children unattended in
the vehicle with the vehicle key .
(D Note
- To red uce the risk of damage to the sockets,
only use plugs that fit correctly .
- T he ciga rette lighte r socket should only be
used as a powe r source fo r electr ical acces­
sories for a short pe riod of time. The sock­
ets* in the vehicle should be used for longe r
use of power supply .

The vehicle battery dra ins when accessories

The 12 volt socket can be used for electrical ac­ cessories. The power consumption at the outlet
m ust not exceed 120 watts.

The socket works only when the ignition is
switched on. Incorrect usage can lead to seri­
ous injur ies or burns. To reduce the risk of in­
jur ies, never leave children unattended in the
vehicle with the vehicle key.

- To prevent damage to the socket, only use
the correct type of plugs.

- Never connect devices that generate electri­
cal power such as solar pane ls or a battery
charger to the 12 vo lt socket. They can dam­
age the vehicle e lectrica l system.
