@ Tips
- Only use the remote control key or conven­
ience key within view of the vehicle.
- Do not use the remote contro l when you are
inside the vehicle. Otherwise, you could un­
i ntent ionally lock the vehicle. If you then
tried to start the engine or open a door, the
alarm would be triggered . If this happens,
press the un lock button@ .
- The vehicle can only be locked when these­
lector lever is in the
P posit ion.
- Only use the panic function in an emergen­
cy.
- For information on additional remote con­
trol key or convenience key functions, refer
to

Locking and unlocking with the
convenience key

The front doors and the luggage compartment
lid can be unlocked and locked without using the
remote control key .

Only the front doors and luggage compartment
li d can be unlocked or locked. The remote control
key must be within a range of about
5 ft (1.5 m)
from the door or the luggage compartment lid . It
makes no d ifference whether the remote con trol
key is in yo ur jac ket pocket, purse or br iefcase .
If you hold the door handle while lock ing, this
can prevent the locking funct ion.
The door cannot be opened for a brief period di­
rectly after locking it. This allows you the oppor­
tun ity to check that the driver 's door is locked .
The settings in the MMI specify if the entire vehi­
cle or one of the doors is unlocked when unlock­
i ng the vehicle¢

@ Tips
If your vehicle is left standing for a long peri­
od of t ime, note the following:
- The proximity sensor sw itches off after a
few days to save energy. You then have to
pull once on the door handle to unlock the
vehicle and a second time to open it.
- The energy management system gradually
turns off unnecessary convenience functions
to prevent the battery from dra ining and to
ma inta in the veh icle's ab ility to start for as
long as possible. You may not be able to un­
lock yo ur vehicle us ing the convenience key.
- For an exp lanat ion on co nfo rm ity w ith the
FCC reg ulations in the Un ited States and the
Industry Canada regulat ions, refer to
¢page 309.

To enable convenience opening of the w indows
and the roof*, the
front wind ow , rea r wind ow *
and roof * functions must be switched on.
A WARNING
-Never close the windows or panorama sun­
roof* careless ly or in an uncontrolled man­
ner, because this increases the risk of injury .
- For security reasons, the windows can only
be opened with the remote control key at a
maximum d istance of approximately 6 feet
(2 mete rs) from the vehicle.
- Pay attention when using the lock cylinder
to close the windows and the panorama
s u nroof* so that no one is pinched. Closing
stops when the key is moved into the start­
ing position .
Correcting power window malfunctions
-
After disconnecting the vehicle battery, the one­
touch up and down feature must be activated
again.
.. Pull the power window sw itch until the w indow
is comp letely raised.
... Release the sw itch and pull it agai n for at least
one second.
Panorama roof

The button has two stages . In the second stage,
the roof automatically runs to the end position
(open/closed) when the button is operated brief­
ly. The movement can be stopped by pressing the
button.
@ Tilting and sliding
.. To tilt the sunroof completely, press the switch
briefly to the second level.
.. To close the roof completely, pull the button
down briefly to the second level or s lide the
button forward briefly to the second level

.. To select an intermediate position, press/pu ll
the switch in the first level until the desired po­
sition is reached .

.. To open the sunroof completely, slide the but­
ton back to just befo re the second level.

A wind def lector integrated in the panorama sun­
roof adapts automatically to the sunroof posi­
tion. Th is reduces wind noise to a minimum in all
panorama s unroof positions.
You can sti ll operate the panorama sunroof for
about 10 minutes after the ignit ion is switched
off. The switch is deactivated once the driver's or
front passenger's door is opened.
Sun blind
The sun shade can be opened and closed manual­
l y, depending on the position of the panorama
sunroof. The sun s hade can be opened partially.
A WARNING
Be caref ul when closing the panoramic sun­
roof - otherwise serious injury could result! Al­
ways take the ignition key with you when leav-

Cigarette lighter

The cigarette lighter should only be used as a
power source when it is absol utely necessary.
A WARNING
The cigarette lighter only works when the ig­
ni tion is switched on. Inco rrect usage can lead
to serious inj uries or burns. To reduce the ris k
of injuries, never leave children unattended in
the vehicle with the vehicle key .

- To red uce the risk of damage to the sockets,
only use plugs that fit correctly .
- T he ciga rette lighte r socket should only be
used as a powe r source fo r electr ical acces­
sories for a short pe riod of time. The sock­
ets* in the vehicle should be used for longe r
use of power supply .
(D Tips
The vehicle battery dra ins when accessories
are tu rned on but the engine is off.

The 12 volt socket can be used for electrical ac­ cessories. The power consumption at the outlet
m ust not exceed 120 watts.
A WARNING
The socket works only when the ignition is
switched on. Incorrect usage can lead to seri­
ous injur ies or burns. To reduce the risk of in­
jur ies, never leave children unattended in the
vehicle with the vehicle key.

- To prevent damage to the socket, only use
the correct type of plugs.

- Never connect devices that generate electri­
cal power such as solar pane ls or a battery
charger to the 12 vo lt socket. They can dam­
age the vehicle e lectrica l system.

injuries increases.
- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chil­
dren remain in the vehicle. Otherwise the
children could start the engine or operate
electrical equipment such as power win­
dows .
- Avoid high engine speed, full throttle, and
heavy engine load as long as the engine has
not reached operating temperature yet . You
could damage th@ engine.
-The engine cannot be started by pushing or
towing .

Do not let the engine run while parked to
warm up. Begin driving immediately. This re­
duces unnecessary emissions.
(D Tips
- If it is difficult to turn the key to position
(D, turn the steering wheel back and forth
slightly to release the steering wheel lock .
- Some noise after starting the engine is nor­
mal and is no cause for concern.
- If the battery is disconnected and recon­
nected, you have to hold the ignition key in
position
(D for five seconds for the engine
to start.
- After switching the ignition off, you can only
remove the key when the selector lever is in
the "P" (Park) position. After that, the selec­
tor lever is locked.

bility is not available, the risk of accidents or

dren remain in the vehicle . Otherwise the
children could start the engine or operate
electrical equipment such as power win­
dows.
- For safety reasons, always park the vehicle
with the selector lever in the P position.
Otherwise, there is the risk that the vehicle
could roll.
- After the engine has been switched off, the
radiator fan can continue to run for up to 10
minutes -even with the ignition switched
off. It can also switch on again after some
time if the coolant temperature rises as the result of heat buildup or if the engine com­
partment is heated by the sun's rays and the
engine is hot.
(D Note
If the engine has been under heavy load for
an extended period of time, heat builds up in
the engine compartment after the engine is
switched off- there is a risk of damaging the
engine. For this reason, let the engine run for
at idle for approximately two minutes before
shutting it off.

Starting the engine if there is a
malfunction
Applies to vehicles: with convenience key
It may not be possible to start the engine under
certain circumstances, for example if the battery
in the vehicle key is drained, if interference is af­
fected the key or if there is a system malfunc­
tion.

The engine automatic start system has a mal­
function . Drive to an author ized Audi dealer or
author ized Audi Service Facility immediate ly to
have the malf uncti on corrected. To start the en­
g ine, press and hold the
!START ENGINE STOPI
button.
DJ Key not recognized. See owner's manual
This message appears if there is no convenience
key inside the vehicle or if the system does not
recognize the key. The conven ience key may not
be recognized, for example, if it is covered by an
object that
disrupts the signal (such as a brief­
case), o r if the key battery is weak. Electronic de­
vices such as cell phones can also interfere with
the signal.
To still be able to start or stop the engine, refer
to "Cor rect ing a malfunction" ¢
page 84.
Ill Key not in vehicle?
The Ill indicator light turns on and this message
appears if the convenience key was removed from
the vehicle when the eng ine was running . If the
conven ience key is no longer in the vehicle, you
cannot switch the ignition on o r start the engine
once yo u stop it. In addition, you cannot lock the
ve hicl e from the outside .
Press brake pedal
This message appears if you do not press the
brake pedal when starting the eng ine .
Please engage N or P
This message appears when starting or s topping
the engine if the selector lever is not in the Nor P
position . The engine will not start/stop .
Driving
Shift to P, vehicle can roll away . Doors can only
be locked in P
T his message appears for safety reasons along
with a warning tone. It appears if the selec to r
lever for the automat ic transmission is not in the
P position when switching the ignition off with
the
I START ENGINE STOPI * button. Shift these­
lector lever to the P position. Otherwise, the vehi­
cle could roll. You also cannot lock the vehicle us­
ing the locking sensor o n the door hand le or us ­
ing the conven ience key.
Electromechanical
parking brake
Operating
The electromechanical parking brake replaces
the hand brake.
